Hi, I'm Jay. Plasma physics is more than a science to me - it's a tool for the future, and a source of inspiration for us all to reach further. This channel represents my passion for High Voltage physics, and contains a growing catalogue of any high voltage process, application, or discovery that you can think of.

I'm currently based in Seattle, WA, but broadcast globally. For all business inquiries: use below email.
If you so choose to mail me an item to display on an episode, I will provide mailing addy via email.

Aerodynamic’s! You probably need to manipulate and optimize the air flow, with body in/work around it, I guess you dramatically improve the performance

I think that's pretty cool and i have never heard of air breathing ionic thruster so I'll leave some suggestions: I think you are persuing the wrong parameters, instead of trying to get the best localized max velocity you should also considerate the mass of air moved per second. Thrust is a product this two variables. Hope this help

Have you considered the fluid dynamics of your airstreams? Doing it in triangleform the forces of the 3 diffrent streams counteract each other in some parts. If you model the airstreams and find a better shape for your engine you could probably increase the effiency quite a bit. I would consider a hexagon or octagon shaped engine since it would be easeier to build then a round one that people have mentioned here in the comments. Consider diffrent angels of the airstrems for each stage so they focus at the same point at the exit of the thruster.

So this might seem 5 head but what if you used a DC welding machine as the power supply for the motor? I think it would work and the output velocity is gonna be pretty hefty compared to the bench supply. Just a thought. I have a torn down welding circuit I use for experiments from time to time.

Intelligent invention In Society today in the wrong hands like Criminals could be devastating But a big one on a Nuclear powered Aircraft carrier could protect our troops from offshore and sea level threats applications for offsore operations . Very nice for personnel protection Crowd control Dangerous Animal Enemy ground control In a chopper could be effective for field operations.

Hey i've just had a thought you might be able to angle the thrusters slightly differently it could cause the air pulled in at and angle creating a vortex that could potentially end up pulling in more air creating more thrust just an idea might not w

I think the module of your design would work decently well on an airplane since you can technically create a lower pressure area under the wing

Making this all open source is a very noble thing. Its the same mebtality as discovering penicillin and allowing it free and open for the bettering of the human race. So much is locked away for profit we have lost the premise of bettering our race for the good of our future as a species. If i ever come upnwith anything it will be open source. Any artwork or models i make now are so.

Closing the gaps what you did, didnt improve much performance because you still have slits introducing lower pressure. Like suction of a hoover tube goes down after one opens a top hole. Reckon you should eliminate any open gaps between the electrodes, slide them inside a horn tube for optimal spacing and consider using magnets and nozzle design to improve the thrust. Also a cathode at the exhaust to collect the ions and make engine electrically neutral. Using higher voltage also will improve thrust. Around 1kV at about 7kW accelerates existing space thrusters to about 20-50 Km/s

Try not aligning the trusted put them side by side and pump more power. Use hydrogen fusion. And use plasma and magnets to push the plasma into each other. You should get a Tesla of power.

remember, on an aircraft, you are not intaking stationary air. you need to test how well (if at all) it works when intake air has realistic velocity.

Would there be any improvement (at least in an aerodynamic sense) if it was circular instead of triangular? I’m assuming that would be a lot harder to build without custom components though.

What would happen with 3 of these connected in series along the same tube structure? Would the acceleration of the water plateau with the voltage, or would the accelerated water from the first stage increase in the second and again in the third?

Rather than flat planes, could the entire thruster be circular? (similar to dyson fans ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8he8afjQyd8.html ) I'd be interested to see how that migh perform. Could airflow be laminar? 🤤

I could imagine changing the angle of the inputs might help: after the air’s pulled through the first set of inputs, it’s moving more horizontal than at the 22° angle, but as that air passes the second thruster frame, you’re reintroducing air at that 22° angle, so there might be a spot that’s got some backdraft, kinda like how there’s sometimes spots on a river where the water’s flowing back upstream. Maybe doing something like having the first set of inputs angled like normal, the second set angled somewhere between 17.5 and 15°, and the third set closer to 12.5°, something like that, might help.

A great improvement on previous models, you mentioned influences of nature ?.. A powerful force of nature is the vortex.. what happens if you rotate each section by say 30 degrees, maybe a nozzle or tail pipe.. keep up the great work..
