LMAO, DOLLBABY, I made this skirt in RED Ponte, and another one in white ponte, and one in patent leather wet look black. OMG, OMG. I went to a club and I had all the men dropping their drinks. Females asked me where did I buy my Patent leather skirt. I smile and said MIMI G tutorial. They did not believe me 🤣🤣. I walked away looking GOOOOOOD LOL. Trust me I know what you are saying. thank you MIMI G for the Killer pencil skirt. LOL
I have a job interview tomorrow morning and at first, I was stressing about how don't have the money for a skirt... or a bouse. Then I remembered... dammit, I have a sewing machine and two boxes of fabric. lol I will be making this skirt today...hopefully I have a stretchy knit fabric in one of those boxes... AWESOME VIDEO! Thank you!
I just wanted to say that your channel is so inspirational to me. I love watching your videos and seeing how you overcome challenges and achieve your goals. You always have a positive attitude and a sense of humor that makes me smile. You are a great role model and I admire your passion and dedication. Thank you for sharing your journey with us and for making a difference in the world.
Oh I'm gosh she is absolutely amazing. She is so poised but doesn't come off as pompous at all. She is doing what I want to do right now. These videos give me so much motivation. Thank you so much!!!
I know this is old. I followed the instructions exact. Being new to sewing, she should have mention extra length for the hem. It still turned out nice, but shorter than I like.
I made this pencil skirt with a stretch blue patent leather wet fabric that I found downtown Los Angeles Fabric district and it is beautiful. I went to party with this skirt and I received so many compliments.
Gonna try this over the weekend. Thank you for so many useful tips. I am new to sewing and this has totally opened up so many doors for me as I am full figured and there is NOTHING CUTE out there for us. I see me taking my style to the next level. THANKS FOR KEEPING IT SIMPLE.
Hi Mimi! I'm so proud of myself it's my 1st time and I did it! I am so happy now I can make skirts that really fit me now. My next project is to do the skirt pattern of yours that's in black and white. Thank you for being a great teacher.
I was watching your "Compression Mesh" video and went to this one to check it out. You mentioned using Tracing Paper to help get your fabric started without the machine eating it. I use tissue paper. It is really inexpensive, and I cut it in long strips so that I can use it easier. I keep it in an old mug, beside my machine, so I can just grab a piece. This way it is always handy, even for quilting or small pieces of fabric.
I haven't sewn in decades. My grandmother taught me all I can remember about sewing and quilting. I definitely want to get back into it. You're a fantastic instructor! I'll be subscribing to your channel today.
I am very impressed with this video. you are telling viewers the correct way to sew using jersery. being that I am an advance sewer it is important to inform novice sewers how to do techniques the correct way. the main one being the use of pins and correct needle for different fabrics!!
Just spent over 30 min. on your blog. Crazy style chica! I purchased a singer professional about three years ago. My mom was a seamstress. I wanted to learn from her through the years but never made time for it. When I was finally ready (two days after I purchased the singer) she passed away. It's in my blood to sew so... I will jump on the wagon soon enough. You have some great tuts for a starting point. Thanks girly!
Thank you for being extra clear.. it helps beginners like myself make sure we arent messing up :D lol. Nothing worse than cutting out the wrong measurement or not using the right stitches.
I made 3 items (tube top, pencil skirt with ruched sides, and tube dress/midi skirt) using the tips from this video. Knits aren't so scary any more. I also invested in a ball point pins and needles and that made a HUGE difference! Thanks so much, Mimi!
I've been sewing for 8 years now and no ones ever told me the trick about putting tracing paper down when sewing with knits or fabrics that get eaten. Thank you so much for the tips. Would love if you could do this tutorial for cotton fabric with a zipper. I'm always looking for easier an faster ways of doing things lol
You are precious!! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your creations with those of us who may not be as talented as you are! You’ve made sewing fun again. Can’t wait to get started!!
Thank you for this video. Will go buy some fabric tomorrow and make me this skirt! Have never learned how to sew. I just know how to sew straight lines for curtains or tablecloth but this video is encouraging. Thanks a bunch!
love your sewing room!!! Can't wait to be done with my studies and get back home and continue on my quest to learn how to sew lol but where it looks like i bought not like its hot off the sewing machine lol
Fantastic tutorial! I have been working with jersey fabric, and my machine has been eating my fabric (pushing it into the feed dogs)! Thanks so much for teaching me how to prevent this, and THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge with us! Cheers!
Great tutorial as always Mimi!!! You definitely are an inspiration to most of us, so keep these tutorials coming! You are one of the few vloggers/bloggers that gives a detail step by step demonstration with your instructions. So not only do we hear you, but we see you as well.So great job! I really appreciate you!
Thanks so much for this video I tired it and it came out perfect and this was my first time everrrr sewing, I went by my mother in law and ask her to show me how to use a machine and she was of great help, I followed allnthe steps and it came out perfect thanks so much again mimi
I absolutely love this tutorial. My late grandmother was a seamstress and wish I'd learned to sew from her. Mimi you've renewed my hope that I'd learn to sew. Unfortunately my skirt did not turn out as nice as yours. LOL. For some reason my elastic is still showing after I fold it. My hem line kept moving too so my hem is jacked. I'm not giving up but what should have been a 30 minute skirt has turned into an afternoon war. At this time the skirt is winning. LOL
I just made my pencil skirt (straight skirt for me) and it came out great. I used my waist size plus 4 inches because I don't like my skirts that tight. I'm a pear shape and just wanted a simple straight skirt that would hang straight from my hips. This was a great solution. I will be making many of these for the summer and also maxi skirts. Thanks Mimi G.
Great, I also used my formula to make two slips to wear with my maxi skirts/dresses. I hate pulling on my clothes when I stand up after sitting for a while. Helps with that a Lot!
Great video. I sew a lot, but never really learned how. Your little tips are great. I usually learn everything the hard way! I'm going to make this for my daughter right now! & one for me too of course.
Better late then never! GREAT tutorial!!! I've watched several ones and yours in one of my favs!!! Great direction, pleasant voice and great tips!! Definitely will be watching more of your stuff! Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video! I made a tube dress the other day using a similar method, but your tips really helped me get a nice finish on my pencil skirt. Thank you! Blessings...
Very Nice, I love the tip. I just brought a Singer sewing machine for beginners, using a stretch fabric had and same issue fighting to get the fabric out and never used the machine again, it's been 2 weeks ;-)
My daughter is 5.9 and always wanted a pencil skirt that will hang below the knees. jBy the time she would sit down they (skirts) would rise up the thigh. I love the fact that a beginner like myself can follow you step by step visually...I can't miss...She is gong to flip...If the rest of your tutorials are like this, she is going to have a new wardrobe...
thank you for this tutorial Mimi. I have been following you for so many years (when you made the duct tape form and I even made one!). I just wanted to say how much I appreciate you!
This tutorial was amazing Mimi thank you so much for taking time out to teach us how to make this pencil skirt. ill be making a gray one today. i'm so excited!
At first when I saw the iron on the board I am like does she realize it and it sat there a minute and no scorch make when she reused it then she put it back down and it like lifted a little I had to rewind and see it again I just want to know where to get one
