It's definitely a deep rabbit hole. I researched my Home Theatre project for a few years before I went to work. Saved me tons of frustration. Do your homework, do it some more, then do some more homework before you get started and I don't mean analysis paralysis.

You can take a small shop vac with a 6 foot hose and duct tape one end to the drywall sander handle 2-3 inches away from the wall. Put vacuum on a camera/guitar strap or backpack and vacuum it while you sand.

I loved the whole project. The only things I'd do differently are, I'd keep the speakers out of the wall and, would probably either removed that door behind the screen or changed the screen location to the opposing wall. The windows wouldn't be a problem because they have to stay close even if you're watching the screen on the actual wall. And oh, I would've hired dry wall people to finish it all off. Cool project! Awesome projector.

This is a great DIY project it came out awesome I really don’t understand why people always have to thumb down peoples projects and videos is it because they doit a bit different from how you thumbdowners would doit because if thats the case everyone is different therefore everyone does things differently so this guy is doing it how he thinks works better for him and his needs im sure if those of you that thumbed down this video made a DIY video and doing it how you think works better for you there would be people down thumbing your videos because they would disagree with something you did or they would doit differently so lets stop hating on other people hard work and ideas and simply appreciate everyone’s unique talents man god bless everyone

I could write a diatribe regarding drywall but I'll keep it pointed and simple. With two people you don't need a support (you called it a dead man) for a sheet less than 3.6m long come in from the ends about a 1/4 of the sheet. With the screws your supposed to use adhesive with drywall and the screws are intended to hold the sheeting til the glue dries and the muddling is done (the are exceptions). The argument that the drywall is removable if you don't adhere the sheeting is not accurate as the screws get muddled anyway. With the broad knives you where using, you want to choke up on the handle towards the blade and put a finger behind the flat surface for feel and control. What you have done obviously worked and got a good finish so Great job with the whole room and the production of your videos is always great quality cheers.

@ivo4357
@ivo4357 4 года назад
great project, but if you're speaking of a dedicated media room with projector, the 'lack of light' you were complaining about before the reno, is actually the perfect setting for a dedicated home cinema. It's all about creating the only light in the room on that projection screen, and light walls or objects will reflect that light so the whole room appears lit. I know you made this in your living room, which doubles as media room, but then it's not a dedicated room anymore. I have the same thing in my house. I installed a projector in my living room, which has lighter colors on the wall and on the cabinets. I recently added a second projector, but this time in a 'dedicated' room, with black walls and seats. I even put black carpet on the walls to make a noise trap (to keep noise from 'bouncing' off the walls). This of course would not be possible in my living room, but I tell you it's a massive difference in the experience of watching movies and listening to music. The one in the living room only gets used now when I'm watching sports or something with a bunch of friends.

It's worth noting that you're required to pull a permit and have the work inspected to make these kind of electrical changes (some areas even require a permit and inspection for low voltage wiring). You may or may not need to be licensed, depending on your situation and the local codes/laws. Not getting a permit can come back to bite you 1) If there is a fire or injury 2) If you try to file an insurance claim 3) If a house inspector notices and calls you on the changes when you're trying to sell the property.

Nice video, but there are some issues about your build. 1. Next time put tubes in the Wall for easy switch or extension on installation 2. Befind screen you should paint in Dark color, this will make more relaxing view on screen and a betyder picture without shine problem 3. Removing isolation in outer Wall is making cool-bridge = wet areas and it ruin the walls if there cold outside amd warm inside

I don't recommend having junction boxes for electrical connections buried in the soffits. If an issue happens your gonna have to tear everything apart and it's against code.

ejh1989, agree! I doubt I would have skinned those soffits with plywood. They don’t add structural value, nothing for the lights, it doesn’t make the drywall process go better and does nothing for the trim. A frustrating step that could have been eliminated. And, when the next owner uses his wireless hologram tv screen with Bluetooth speakers, he will want crown molding in there and wonder why anyone would install a soffit in the room.

Very nice job! Right now I have 45 deg slopes along the side walls from the 10' to the 11' height. I was thinking about boxing them in with a soffit similar to what you have built here just to make it easier to terminate the tops of the columns I'm planning to build to house the side surround speakers. I'm starting to wonder though, it might be simpler to just come up with a good way to make the tops of the columns with the 45 deg slope. Your room turned out great, fantastic job!
