The adjustment screw shouldn't slip for a single turn. After that the bolt is generally loose and a little slop isn't detrimental. But you can readjust after each rotation. Higher end adjustable wrenches have a more precise fitment and really don't slip at all. I didn't cut up my Proto just for this reason.

The Snap-On truck had purpose-made adjustable crows-foot wrenches. Had a full set, so I didn't need this, but then again, I was trading two of them in that I'd jacked up. I don't think an adjustable one would have survived long with the work I was doing.

Please do a version 2.0. Drill a hole and insert the socket. This way if the protruding side causes a clearance issue. You have the ability to flip it over. Also this will mitigate the likelihood of rounding nuts by utilizing the fixed jaw to drive the torque.

It’s an interesting idea, but sometimes you need the least bulky crowfoot possible. The crescent wrench crowfoot just wouldn’t fit in some tight spots. Ultimately you’ll end up getting a complete set of regular and jumbo crowfoot sockets, therefore making this idea unnecessary.

@@sixtyfiveford I remember hearing ChrisFix say that crescent wrenches are pretty much gimmick tools, which is something I had never considered before, and I gotta say he’s probably right at least most of the cases. Better approach would have been to skip the welding. Just drill a 3/8" hole through the wrench head and ream it to 3/8" square. Then you can use it from either side and it takes up a lot less space in your tool bag/bucket.
@sixtyfiveford

@timhofstetter5654

@@sixtyfiveford I think it'd be worth a try with one wrench, especially since having the jaw pointing the wrong direction (it's pointing the same way for loosening as it is for tightening) also weakens the heck out of the wrench. The fixed jaw should always be in "pulling fingers" mode, never in "pushing thumb" mode. Try one broached, see if you can break it.

I wish I could say I was the first to come up with the idea. It was actually patented back in the 1940s.

Been pullin wrenches over 55 years and have never used a crows foot And this is a strange use for a self adjusting cresant hammer

It's an odd tool for sure and why I've never invested in a full SAE and metric set. In most situations where I would need a crow's foot I just take my torch and bend a junk wrench to fit what I need to do. I've only used this one time since I made it a year ago and that was on a 17 mm bolt that I wouldn't have been able to reach without bending a wrench.
