Ah thank you - I am still active! It just takes me a long time to make each pattern/tutorial 🙈 😂 I have a new pattern/tutorial coming out in about 2 weeks time though and you can follow what I'm up to on Instagram/TikTok where I post more regularly 🙃 💕
This is such a comprehensive tutorial, I almost want to cry! Every time I had a question you answered it in the next clip. 😍 Also blown away by that hem ruler you use in step 8, I didn't know those were a thing!
Ah thank you, that's so encouraging to hear! 🥰 The hem ruler is made by Clover - their ones are especially good as they're non-slip and don't overheat 🙃 hope your trousers turn out well! 😍✨
This tutorial made me feel like I could do it! I'm more in beginner but it's so comprehensive and complete that I don't think I'll have much of an issue giving it a try!😊
I’ve made two of these palazzo pants now. Such a flattering and wonderful design. And the sew-a-long is a lovely addition to the comprehensive written instructions. ❤
What an amazing comprehensive tutorial and so tidy, no strings! I am sad that it doesn't come in XL sizes, but loved the video all the same. I also have to say those hairpin pins worked like a charm.
The largest size on the pattern is equivalent to an international 3XL / UK 24 / US 20, and I also have a free grading guide to adjust to any size above that 🥰 ✨ The pins are called 'fork pins' made by a company called Clover - much more secure than regular pins - I love them! 🙃 💕
I agree with lots of these comments. This popped up on my recommended- I loved everything about this tutorial. I bought the pattern within 10 minutes and I love the pattern instructions which match your tutorial style. I have subscribed and am looking forward to more straight forward patterns like this for core wardrobe stuff. Thank you ❤
Ah thank you Katherine, that's such lovely & encouraging feedback to hear & so glad your enjoying the patterns! 😍 I'm working on a dramatic but simple wool coat project at the moment for Autumn and there'll be a batwing blouse out at the end of the summer too 🙃 💕
Very nice pattern, I love the pockets, and the adjustable back is a great detail. I wonder if you also plan to release a pattern for the blouse you are wearing by the canal? It looks so nice with these pants.
Ah thank you and yes, that pattern will be released in the next month! It's quite a simple one so I'm going to put it out as a free release for my mailing list - here's the link if you'd like to join 🥰 ✨ view.flodesk.com/pages/621d0c547e7ec064e82a0e6e
Hi Sasha, thank you for this wonderful tutorial, I'm currently sewing along my first pair of pants and loving it. I have enough fabric left over and would love to make the top your models are wearing in the cover of this video ❤ Do you happen to have a pattern for that as well please? Thank you!!!
Ah so glad you're enjoying the make! That top is my own design but I'm afraid I don't have a pattern released for it at present - I drafted them very quickly onto the cloth the night before the shoot! 🥰 ✨
What is the fabric of these pants that you are using. I have seen the fabric recommendations that you provided, but am interested in the fabric of these yellow/mustard pants please.
What are those bent double pins that you use please? Great tutorial! So clear! I’ve never created pants/trousers but I’m super inspired by this tutorial to give it a go.
I have just purchased your palazzo pants pattern and in your tutorial video you mention that your blue pair have an elastic waist. Do you have a pattern adjustment for the elastic back at all?
I don't at the moment but I'm going to put together a video showing how to do this - the pattern is exactly the same though, just a slightly different construction to get the elastic in ✂️ ✨
Hi there! I've released a free grading guide to go with this pattern to take it up to any size - you can download it here - drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=12IPoNV7CgQ8I4kST6tbXlWrp9cOWQcnA
I really like these pants, but I would rather not have the tie at the back. I'm thinking it wouldn't be too hard to just put in a longer piece of elastic like the way you did the pair you are wearing. The jacket looks lovely too... will probably have to do both.
Hi Kathleen, yes you could certainly use elastic like I did on the first pair - the pattern is the same just without the buttonholes. I’d say the only issue would be if you’re hip to waist ratio is quite differing - so if you have a very small waist in comparison to hip measurement. But using a very soft & stretchy elastic would help a lot with this, or even traditional style shirring (3rd method in my shirring video)
If you do go for the pattern & would like to try it this way please feel free to get in touch for some extra tips on putting in the elastic if needed! And the jacket pattern will be out in a couple of weeks time 🥰✨
@@sashastarlight I would also love to make these with the shirring method like in your other video. I'm trying to wrap my head around what order to add the elastic casings. At what point in the construction would you add them?
Hello Sasha, I've bought 2cm wide ribbon but I only have 3cm wide elastic right now, will it be okay to use together? I've noticed your elastic and tape seem to have only a 0.5cm gap, I wonder if I should stick to those proportions.
Oh that’s so exciting, I actually trained in traditional tailoring originally!! I’m not taking on one-to-one students at the moment but where are you based? I might be able to send you some recs 🙃✨
How do you feel about a double folded hem instead of the serged and single folded hem? I want to make these pants as durable as possible, but the serged and single folded seem easier. Any particular reasons for the way you did it? (weight, ease, durability is similar? idk, etc) Thank you!
Hi Joan - sorry for the slow response, I've had my head down getting my new pattern out the last few weeks! You can certainly double fold the hem if you'd rather - a serged & single folded hem is just as durable but some people prefer the look of a double fold. I went with that option as it's quicker & hidden inside the garment at the bottom 👍 ✨
Does anyone know if this would be an okay pattern for someone who's never sewn clothes before? I've made quilts, pillowcases, even bow ties, but I've never done clothes before and I really love the look of these pants. Also, would they work okay with linen? I've heard that linen gathers really well but I've never personally worked with it.
I'd say it would be a challenge but also if you take your time, small steps and are patient with your progress I'd never say never! The waistband is the most challenging part - perhaps skip to that part of the tutorial & see how you feel about the processes 👌 And yes, linen would work great 🙃 💕
I have some lovely material i want to use to make these, but it needs a lining (its a lovely satin but a little see through in the light) how would you suggest I go about lining these?
sorry for the late reply - for pattern help it's always best to get hold of me on Etsy for a quick response! I'd say lining these isn't the best idea due to the gathers at the back... if I was to try it I would cut the lining exactly the same as the outer and treat as one piece when sewing together ✂️ ✨
Tutorial was extreamely easy to follow, and english is not my primary language. I have a question tho... When I'm supposed to attach the elastic to the waistband can't I just attach it when I'm sewing the two pieces of waistband together? It seems like an extra step to me.
If that works better for you go for it! I find it a little tricky to get a really neat finish at the sides sewing it all at once which is why I break it up ✨
Hi there, you can find a full size chart in the pattern listing here - sashastarlight.etsy.com/uk/listing/1374772819/palazzo-pants-pattern-digital-pdf-video 51" waist is just above the larger size on this design, but I have a free grading guide you can download here to adjust up to any size, and I'm super happy to help with any extra guidance on this if needed - drive.google.com/file/d/12IPoNV7CgQ8I4kST6tbXlWrp9cOWQcnA/view?usp=sharing I get back within 24hrs to all messages on Etsy 🙃 💕
Hello, I have your pattern. I would like to know where the fabric you used in this sewing came from and what is its name. I would be very grateful if you could recommend a fabric shop you know.
Hi Kim! This is a suiting weight pure wool and I got it from one of the shops in Shepherd's Bush, London UK but it was quite a few years ago - I bought the whold bolt as it was such a good price & I loved the colour! If you're based in London normally I get my fabric at Woolcrest Textiles in Hackney as it's near my studio, online via independent sellers on Etsy or I have my own digital prints made up with Maake. Hope that's helpful! 🙃 ✨
my hip measurement is a size bigger than my waist measurement. Should I try and grade between sizes or could i simply get away with the bigger size because of the adjustable waist?
I'd definitely go for the bigger size as the waist can be easily gathered in at the back - I fall into the Small size bracket & most of my pairs are in the Large size as I like the extra swoosh 🙃 💕 Also just to add - Etsy's the best place to contact me for pattern support as I often miss messages on here! ✨
Bought a sewing machine and all the stuff specifically to make these pants, because I was born with the "How hard can it be?"-gene, but I just bought the pattern and now I'm intimidated... 🤣
You need fabric that drapes and gathers well, otherwise the back of the pants will look very bulky and odd. In that regard, crepe should be suitable. Make sure, the fabric is actually suitable for machine washing and regular wear, though. Crepe is mostly used in evening wear and often not exactly sturdy.
Yes, crepe would work - synthetic crepe is generally suitable for machine washing on a delicate cycle, but silk could be used and the finished piece hand washed or dry cleaned 🥰 ✨
hello very nice lady gorgeous videos please I ask request very nicely please kindly place the video camera on the floor and film how to operate the industrial sewing machine foot pedal how it's used to sew please kindly reply back OK?thank you very much and have a beautiful day 😊
I'd say it would be a challenge but also if you take your time, small steps and are patient with your progress I'd never say never! The waistband is the most challenging part - perhaps skip to that part of the tutorial & see how you feel about the processes 🥰 ✨
