@rodneyhunt i have turned a shed into a ham shack and office. Insullated then walls, but not yet the ceiling. Still need to get power out permanently. I want my entire house to be off grid, that takes time and money. I have had fun and been learning with ham radio.

I hate you had that problem with your Ryobi auger. I’ve had that same auger for a while now and I bore up to 10” holes with little problem. It will stall out occasionally but if I take the hole in small bites, it will usually do the job.

I like it when you show how it's gonna be, and then show us how you did it. That creates some kind of mental awareness to understand what we are expecting and working towards. Great video and tutorial here. Not everyone knows how to create a video others can follow and implement.

I have 2 questions for you I got 16 360 watt panels from SS try your code didn't work for me but that not what I want should I make one 16 like yours or 2 8 panel arays And I have 2 GG4 6000xp So I have 50 amps at 220 The wire I am running is good for 115 amps so I can add as needed I am not going to run my big load at 1st anyway you think this is enough Biggest loads are a 12k and 9k mim split and a 8k ac. IMHO, all of your ‘extra’ framing is really just cheap insurance and really necessary for a robust, durable wood DIY mount. Removing a bunch is punching pennies here. My take, everyone else is free to build them however they like.

RODNEY, GREAT PROJECT! I ALSO SAW THAT GUY’S GROUND MOUNT BUILD & WAS IMPRESSED AS WELL! 1. ARE YOU GOING TO PUT DIAGONAL CROSS BRACES ON YOUR POST TO STIFFEN & HELP SUPPORT FOR ADDITIONAL RIGIDITY FROM HIGH WIND? 2. ARE YOU GOING TO USE BIFACIAL PANELS & PUT WHITE STONES UNDERNEATH TO INCREASE YOUR POWER FROM REFLECTIONS?
@rodneyhunt
@rodneyhunt 9 месяцев назад
Hey thanks.1. I probably will just going to see what the best options are. Probably 2 crossed each side I would guess. 2. Going to use the Hyundai panels I already have but may try bifacial in the future.

Always like your videos. It is like we are talking together at the coffee shop. Well done! I like the approach with a single post/pivot system. Did you consider metal pipe such as sch 40 3” like Iron Ridge mounts suggest? Metal could be all bonded together. For wood structure I assume you will run separate grounding wires. Not trying to tell you what to do. Just an honest question from someone looking to put up a tilting diy mount here in north Texas. All the best. Keep those videos coming.
@rodneyhunt
@rodneyhunt Месяц назад
Yeah separate DC grounds are easier with this setup. Metal cost are the biggest factor for me. This was cheaper for me
@brentjohnson6654
@brentjohnson6654 Месяц назад
@@rodneyhunt thanks for the reply. I saw on the next video you used the metal struts on the wood so the ground should conduct well. You comment on the wood has me thinking. I priced wood vs metal when lumber was sky high. All the best from north Texas.

My shack at the lowest is 8 ft and 11 ft at the peak. It looks like im going to need to have the top of the panels at about 10 or 10.5 ft to stay out of the shacks' shadow.
@rodneyhunt
@rodneyhunt 3 месяца назад
My tilt array post are pretty low. So I would definitely watch how high you put the post. Not sure if you mean just the top portion of the array when tilted or the entire array needs to be that high at a minimum. May need to back away from the shack if possible to keep post lower. 👍
@douglasvamateurradioandmore
@douglasvamateurradioandmore 3 месяца назад
@rodneyhunt The southern facing eve is about eight feet and the peak is about 11 ft. I have about six feet between the back property line fence, and that is an easement for power and other utilities. I do have the companies coming out to mark the utilities.

The strongest part of your mount is those grade 8 bolts. Grade five bolts would have been more then strong enough. In a strong wind the 2x6s will just break at the bolts.
@rodneyhunt

Good in 40mph winds so far. Anything can break with enough force for sure. 👍

No chance that would work here. My ground mounts will involve big deep holes, lots of concrete, steel columns, and aluminum, all designed be a professional engineer to include calculations and a signed wet stamp. In my area the design is for 20LB. SQ. FT. snow load and 90MPH wind load. My county will not accept ground screws or driven piles either. Generally, the mounts will cost about the same as the panels, before installation. Permits are required, not negotiable.
@rodneyhunt
@rodneyhunt 4 месяца назад
So where do you live? Unfortunately many places have lost more freedom than others. We have all lost freedom to do what we want though. Survived 60 mph wind gust so far and hopefully we do not see any higher than that
