I Installed the electriQ iQool 10000 BTU Wall Mounted Air Conditioner with Heating Function. It took about an hour and with the correct tools is an easy job. Otherwise known as an icool AC unit.

I’ve fitted one and it’s really great. I bought it mainly for cooling although as a heater it’s very efficient providing the outside temp isn’t too near freezing! If it is the unit will freeze up and stop working as it doesn’t have a defrost cycle. Thanks for the tip on connecting to the internet that had caught me out until I watched your blog.

Thanks for this video; it’s interesting. However, my heart sank when you started drilling with no dust sheets to cover your bed, bedding and furniture! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I know how much dust that a core drill generates! Many years ago, I rented an industrial diamond core drill for a day, from HSS Hire, to drill through my kitchen wall for my tumble dryer vent. I sectioned off the area under the kitchen counter by attaching an old sheet to contain the dust completely, even though I drilled from outside. HSS staff mentioned the risk of the drill snapping my wrist but I was careful and used it without any problems (I’m a female DIY’er). Also, I wouldn’t be keen on using the roll up plastic vent sleeves as they’re not sealed like a vent pipe. You can buy solid plastic pipe in that size which won’t allow any of the exhaust moisture to get into your wall cavity. I do really like the design of fitting the vent grilles from inside the room, as it certainly saves climbing high ladders outdoors!👍🏼

A portable air con unit is noisy typically about 60db, the one in the video is 58db so is still VERY loud. Safe yourself £800 and two holes in your house and buy a portable one, they're just as bad. If you want PROPER air conditioning that's quiet get a split system.

Also get a branded make that actually has a warranty and available spare parts. I got one of these last year for heating rather than cooling. It's great for the shoulder months, but I find when it drops below 5C outside it stops working, or at least delivered a lot less heat for the amount of energy consumption. Constant defrost cycling. The heat exchanger is probably too small and compact to be able to defrost effectively. I'm sure it works well for cooling though.

@eughrologh

That's interesting. I was thinking of getting one primarily for some extra heating to try and reduce amount of gas heating I use. The summer cooling being just a bonus. Is it a waste of time as a heater or just not enough without a radiator on too?
@alanmcguinn
@alanmcguinn 9 месяцев назад
@@eughrologh it's just that it's primarily designed as an air conditioner (it's Chinese tech) and the heating functionality is implemented as an afterthought. Hi, thank you for making this video, it’s hard to find people with experience with these through the wall units! Do you find that the holes have increased the amount of outside noise in the room (when the unit isn’t running)? Or have the holes made the room have more of a draft/heat leaking out again when the unit isn’t on?
@christopherballard1933
@christopherballard1933 Год назад
Good questions Kira. There is a very slight increase in noise coming in from outside when the unit isn’t running. We haven’t noticed any draft at all, as there’s a foam seal on the back of the unit that seems to stop this occurring.

Nice video mate - and I can relate to the dangers of torque on SDS drills! I've built myself a fully insulated garden office around 24m2 in size. It's getting toasty now (and frankly difficult to work in) in the heatwave we're currently having in the UK and this heatwave is only around 30 degrees. I'm dreading the 40 degree days that we seem to now get each summer. I've seen some poor reviews online of this product at keeping the temp down properly in these heatwave conditions. Have you noticed any issues in the last couple of weeks of warmer weather? I'm keen to do the install myself, hence unfortuantely won't be able to do a 2 part system. But if this type of model isn't going to be good enough then I will just resort to paying a qualified installer to do one of those systems instead.

Hi Venny, your welcome. For the weight, i lifted it by myself and also onto the wall bracket with a little help from the wife. I would say its not that heavy at all. I have installed a split years ago and i would say this all indoor unit is better because with the split, the outdoor unit goes rusty after some time, also the pipe insulation starts to fall apart from the sun.
