I needed a high volume airtank to inflate my tubeless Mountain bike tires. I don't have access to an air compressor so I built an airtank out of an old fire extinguisher.
I want to repurpose a fire extinguisher as a tank for air horns. First step is to replace the handle valve with a manifold. What size are the threads on that, it looks like 3/4 inch.
I am not sure. I just took a tape measure to it a couple of minutes ago and it measured 7/8 inside diameter on the bottle. And 15/16 outside diameter on the handle part. Got to remember that the threads seat into each other so it is somewhere between the two. I took pictures but can't upload them here.
How did you remove original hose from fire extinguisher? Your idea with using the bike pump hose is ingenius. Just need to take off hose so I can attach my bike pump hose to fire extinguisher
This one did not have a long hose. It had a short nipple that un screwed from it that I was ableto glue and clamp the bike pump hose to. I woud have liked to have along hose because I would have used a short metal tube or pipe to act as a coupler between the different hoses with a couple of pipe clamps.
Kamikaze idiot. Scuba tanks operate at pressures in excess of 3,000 psi, and are filled with carefully filtered air. This heap of junk will kill or seriously injure someone !!!
I pump up the tank to about 100psi. the valve I got from a tire repair shop it is a standard schrader valve. www.amazon.com/Standard-Length-Rubber-Tubeless-Vehicles/dp/B00LAK6MYW/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1499171715&sr=8-10&keywords=Schrader+valve
fireball9709 The only reason I ask is because it says it's only rated to 65 psi but I've seen people inflating them up much higher and was wondering if you have had any issues with it
the worst that will happen is that the valve will pop out. so far I have had no trouble. I guess you could use a presta valve that is rate for a higher pressure, but this valve is all that I had.
You are better off using a CO2 fire extinguisher.. It could handle much higher pressure and safer. Don't exceed the pressure rating stamped on the cylinder . Good idea though.
The tank holds 150 psi. It is hard to get it above 100 with a hand pump. I am more worried about the hose letting loose when I discharge it. I made it to set the beads in my tubeless MTB tires.
fireball9709 You need a needle valve to control the flow for the pressure you are using. Mount it on the tank side and you can operate with control and not use the squeeze lever.
fireball9709 If you could find a CO2 fire extinguisher, it is much better as it is High pressure to 3000 PSI. Very safe to use and can do many inflations for your tires. Install a High pressure T fitting. Put a HP gauge on one side and a HP needle valve to fill the cylinder and to connect a hose to inflate your tires.Even if you fill 1000 PSI ,you'll have a good volume with 3 times the safety ratings.cheers.
No need extra schrader valve! you can fill your tank by same valve. just push the lever and fill it via same hose!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j_Estij8epQ.html
ifell3 I can inflate the tire to 40 lb including setting the bead on one charge. It has been no trouble. It only takes about 1 minutes of pumping with my floor pump to get a full charge in the tank.
No, first it is not able to handle the pressures of a true dive tank. Second there would be too many contaniments to safely take into you lungs. Third you need some kind of pressure regulation to control the amount of air you take in. If you try this you will probably get hurt. I only use this for filling tubeless bike tires.
I have never had a need to as I just reverse the hose on my shop vacuum and it does a good job. I don't know if you would have enough volume to blow a lot of dust from any thing bigger than a keyboard.
At what pressure is that fire extinguisher safety rated ???? It looks very like a suicide kit to me. Use the proper gear !!! or perhaps you are a mortician trying to drum up business ???
The tank is rated at 150psi but it is hard to get the pressure over 100 with a hand pump. The Schrader valve is only rated for 65. So it will pop out first.
why are you pumping it up by hand totally pointless ... lol so to get 60 psi in the tyres without pressure ???? fire extinguishers only safe to 60 psi ????
I use a bike pump to get the tank up to pressure then the tank can release the amount of air needed (high volume) to properly set the bead of a tubeless mountain bike tire. Regular floor pump can't put out that volume.
i think it's ridiculously unsafe. there's not even any first stage (high pressure-low pressure converter). try pumping 3000 psi directly into your lungs. not to mention there is no filter (against oil, dust or other impurities) to the air that goes in and out of the tank. everything will go straight into your lungs
This was not meant to be a life saving air breathing device. It was only meant to fill my Tubeless mountain bike tire. I would never use it for breathing as it probably has oil or other contaminants in it that would be very bad.
@@robbiemify How many times has he said it's to inflate mountain bike tyres, NOT a scuba tank?! You are right, the world does have more than enough damn fools!
