Awesome job guys!!!! We went through a ton of drywall bits doing our house. I should have bought stock in the company, lol. We have to redo the kitchen ceiling and one of the bathroom ceilings because I hired a “contractor”, cough, cough, who didn’t know how do do skylights properly, AND forgot to put in the insulation in the ceilings of those rooms. Huge mess. True story. Anyway, he didn’t use a drywall lift either, so I’m going to order one from Harbor Freight I believe and we will do it ourselves. Should have done the ceilings ourselves to begin with. Live and learn, lol. You make it look very easy, and since our older son is 21 we have a third set of hands. I knew these kids would come in handy someday, lol 😉. Great job 👍👍

You are a stinking genius...although I've used that method to join sheets of drywall that didn't meet on a stud, I never thought of adding spacers. When drywall was less than $4 a sheet it wasn't a big deal to mess up but now days at around $9 it's more important to double check everything.

Safety tip: when cutting drywall be careful of the placement of the hand you’re using to hold the square. If the knife is angled a little toward the square it can catch the edge of the square and jump up over the square edge cutting your other hand. And since you have a bit of weight on the knife, you will cut your hand with some force. So hold your other hand behind your cut.

Wow! If there is an ikea nearish to you you could install a Pax closet system and not mess with the walls at all except to anchor them. I know several folks who’ve done them and LOVE the clean lines and east of install.

Most people don’t want to work this way, they say it is too slow , blah , blah blah.... however, for years the customers we served expected us to take our friggin’ time, they say neither is a Rolex watch put together in 8 hours. They paid for quality, over speed. Deliver to them and you will never want for clients.

I'm going to use the "butt board" idea in an existing hall ceiling that has cracked across from one side to the other. Been needing to patch for 5 yrs, but didn't want to deal with the "hump". Now I see how to avoid it ... IF my "seam" doesn't happen to come out right under a ceiling joist. Great video guys, though I was itching to see an outdoor view of your new place during early stages of spring green-up.

Looks great, have fun mudding and taping. I used to do siding, and have been on construction sites where they come in and drywall, and wow, a ton of guys show up, and they drywall, mud and tape an entire house in like 2 hours. Guys walking around on stilts for mud/tape on the top areas, its cool to watch. Also, yeah, technically you can call that a T square, because it basically is. T squares are similar but smaller (with a wooden head and plastic long part), and is used by draftsman (well, before drafting moved to computers), for blueprints and such. My father was a draftsman for a while, then an engineer, and he had several T squares.

One thing you have to consider with double wides is that they're two sections joined in the middle.I'm hoping the middle of yours has a concrete footing and not gravel to support it.Otherwise the center will act as a hinge and move with the changes of the seasons.

I too like to hang the wall boards vertical since butt joints are harder to finish. Since your ceilings are a little on the low side, for your living room you could use a 1 x 8 board on each side of the trusses to make them look like beams, and then install either a drywall or plank ceiling against the top of the 1 x 8s. I like the reciprocating saw blade holder.

Doug, when you're cutting for windows/doors, etc, it is much easier to hang the board first and cut it to size in place (temporarily remove any door handles, etc which may obstruct the board). Otherwise a great tutorial on cutting and hanging drywall, your home is looking fantastic, thank you.

Found you today. Binge watching the remodel playlist. I am not a builder, but I know a drywall tip I want to share. Use lipstick on the outer edges of the outlet and light boxes. Butt your drywall against the location like a dry fitting. Then cut your holes where the lipstick marks the drywall. No measuring required.

Great job. I have used craft paper or even poster board to mark where outlets/light fixtures are. It cuts down on doing all the measuring. Just place it on the straight edge of where the drywall will go, you can mark it with a pencil or I just usually press on it to make an impression on the paper then lay it on the drywall and mark it with a pencil. This will make an impression in the drywall and then you can cut that out. Just remember to keep the orientation the same as you lay it on the drywall.

Hidden talents there doug , pays in this day and age to be multi skilled , the more strings to your bow the better , drywall and mud , we call it , boarding and plastering . Ie , mud being plaster in uk . Mudding is easy , its just getting the nack as we say , that is the feel and the movement of the tools and materials combination . It Combines into a flow or the feel , once you get the combination of feel and the speed , its a piece of cake , try dry practicing with the float the angle and the movement , it doesnt take long to master it , it just boils down to having the confidence to give it a go . You will get it , have faith in your own abilities thats how easy it is . One step at a time . Excellent job keep going .

Few small tips a short rasp quickly rounds the ends for the seams and saves money on the but board and with the larger openings such as doorways and windows if not trimmed out yet can be cut after drywall is hung also alternating ends of the room you start drywall on ceiling creates the natural staggering unless your room is 16 foot exactly lol

"You two are a great team and I admire how you work to save money. If I may give a few tips to save you time ( I've been drywalling for 30 years ) . 1) Start by standing horizontally about 6 of those sheets on a wall ( this will not be to much weight on a wall ) It will be easier to pull your tape and make a measurement. 2) Pull your tape-measure and mark your 1st ceiling joist center point . Use the " T square " Ashley was correct that is what it is. Then draw a line from bottom to top with a pencil.Don't move your T -sq and from that line look right to left you will see it's 16" to the end of the T-sq .Mark that point, move the T- sq draw the next line bottom to top and keep repeating til you are at the end of your sheet. 3) One way to accomplish what you do with the butt board. On the ceiling before the install . Use a 6 foot level / straight edge to see what ceiling joist is sitting higher then the others, break the joint on that one and you will accomplish the same thing without the board. 4) Hope this helps you 2 going forward and great job . Love the team work and your not afraid to tackle any project

Wow I could have used someone like you when I had a "contractor" tell me he had to replace my ceiling drywall...and then took over a week to accomplish that, with a friend of mine helping. And that was for a 10 x 14 room with only ONE light hole in the ceiling! Then it took him another week to get the mudding to his satisfaction, which included humps all along the seams. That's a pretty neat piece of equipment, that drywall holder.
