Hmm I’m not the biggest fan of this one I won’t lie! Also not redoing the floors, couldn’t there be water damage under them? Also not adding a waterproof finish to the wood behind the mirror surely that will just absorb moisture and breed mould?

The paint he used is waterproof enough semi gloss paint is all you need in California

@@moicrux7112 yeah but the wood he used for that sink area he didn’t use anything to seal it and keep moisture out? Surely when you have a shower you produce a tonne of steam and that wood will soak it up meaning you’ll just breed mould?

@@Jamie.x did you not listen that he primer it with anti mold primer and if you look in the ceiling he has an exhaust fan to suck up the moisture. Pay attention. You might not be familiar with painting its not rocket science

I totally agree with you. It looks cheap and NOT sexy. a few things I would have done differently: 1. paint the shower hardware black not green. 2. Use a more Modern light fixture. 3. different color for the walls

@@ricardowingson7126 the shower hardware painted with rustoliam paint does not last theres a reason why the doors are made out of aluminum. I would remove them and put a nice shower curtain with shower liner. And definitely replace the floor. Its a must!

If you score the corner of the wall trim with a razor knife. That way when you pull the moulding off it doesn’t take the drywall with it

I would have just left the shower door thing off. It just doesn’t make sense to have that on a tub. Plus a tension rod and shower curtain is probably cheaper lol

I agree. shower curtain is much easier to clean, doesn't have all those tracks and grooves collecting gunk, can open all the way so you don't feel claustrophobic when you take a bath. and you can put the rod higher for tall folks so they don't have to duck to get inside these crappy sliding doors.

Love the channel. Love the energy you bring but swing and a miss for me on this one. Think that the extra time to finish the drawers properly, clear and seal the plywood, get a new piece of laminate, floors, etc would have been much better for you and your viewers than the "in a weekend" venture. Some to be a downer but "engagement is engagement / there's no such thing as bad press on a RU-vid video" so there's my comment 😁

About the cabinet doors, spackel soaks up paint diffrently than wood and also has a slightly different texture, so even if it is completly level and smooth you will see it. Sealing before painting could have solved that.

I would maybe recommend redoing the floor at some point to make sure you have a fully waterproof bathroom and there's no water damage underneath. Never miss a video!

i feel so bad for you LMAO ik you worked really hard and all the comments are roasting you :( personally, the bathroom is not my taste because of the colour mainly. i personally would have opted for neutral tones. like paint the shower part black instead of teal, and change all the fixtures to matte black. also the vanity i would have liked to see a new one cuz it looks hella outdated. also would have added peel n stick tile to the floor. you did a fantastic job picking the sink and mirror tho and i LOVE the plywood on the wall, and i can get around the teal light fixture too!! i would personally get different shower fixings, vanity, and eliminate the teal shower (maybe add some teal wall colour to still keep the vibe). but then again, it is NOT MY BATHROOM, and im so happy that you love it thats all that matters!! great work on the channel love your videos and work ethic :)

Matte black does not hold up in bathrooms. Anytime the moisture touches it, even passively in the air, it’ll look hazy and ugly/dirty. That’s why most bathroom stuffs are shiny white.

Your ideas sound nice, but you do have to remember this is a video on what you could do for a weekend renovation, especially if you cant afford a big and amazing reno. It also gives ideas to people who work on their own fixer upper house.

Best thing I found that works for tubs and tile walls for my properties is boat paint. Put primer first, then use white boat paint. It's enamel and hardens for a good finish. Makes your bathroom bright white. It's the best, due to the boat paint is used for the outside of boats.

I can’t believe you didn’t prime the cabinets and metals before painting. I know it’s another step, but makes such a difference in the final outcome in finish and durability. Especially on the metal shower door frame.

Personally, I think a lot of the negative comments are from the what feels rushed work. Cabinet doors filled with joint compound instead of wood filler Unfinished plywood peg board Laminate counter that was cracked (Most of those will fail over time in a bathroom especially if used daily) Basically I think a lot of woodworkers are cringing. And compared to his old projects didn’t hit the mark

I think this is an honest look at a weekend project of this caliber, in this price range, though. You just can't do a lot in that amount of time and with that amount of money.

Great work, Mike. I've loved watching your videos and I'm excited for what you do with this house. I think the challenge you set for yourself was maybe too ambitious since you had to cut a lot of corners to work within the restraints. Overall, as a viewer, I would've rather had you come to us mid-video and explain that this was maybe too much for a weekend and take more time on it rather than settle for a result that's less refined than most of your other efforts. Perhaps it's the perfectionist in me, but I couldn't help but fixate on the errors/issues instead of admiring your hard work.

Why would you use the side of the plywood with all the pencil marks on it. Also it will eventually swell up and start to stink from the moisture. It needs to be sealed

Just wasting filler on those doors, get it pressed in the grooves and feather out the edge, you don’t need 3/16 build up of material sanded off the door face

Nice update. Cool idea with the pegboard. I'm interested to see how well the tub and surround paint hold up over time. I did the same thing with our old tub prior to selling the house. 3 coats, it looked great, but I have wondered how it held up to everyday use. Thanks for some more inspiration.

I would not have thought that some of your decorative choices would have looked so great in the end product. I appreciate that you are showing people color and style choices that might take them out of their comfort zone so that they can begin to think outside of the box. Any concerns on the plywood backsplash and moisture from the sink? Are the holes a design feature or were you still planning to drop some pegs in there? Love the weekend 'gemmic' idea, definitely a hook point for average DIYers, but I think it works better when the project is totally completed - i.e., trim work, no finish on plywood backsplash, no mention of sink install or including plumbing. I think those are some critical inputs DIYers are looking for. Not hating for the record, just throwing out some constructive criticism. All the best man!

I am so excited to see you start to renovate your house! Whoop Whoop! Rachel is awesome and I hope she continues to make some cameos. I am in agreement with the majority of the comments on this particular video. I see your attempt. I've also watched you for years and know the quality of work in this bathroom is nowhere near the quality that your completed projects normally are. You've got a great piece of land and a great house to make all your own. I hope you are able to slow down a bit and continue the high quality work that you normally produce.
