"Return tools better than you found them." If only everyone lived by that rule, the world would be just a little bit more awesome! Nice job, Chris!

If your soffits were vented you should have added baffles so the insulation doesn’t cover the vents.

I did the same and while the results did make a difference I'm coming to find out I'm supposed to air seal.. so now here you have me undoing everything and man I wish I did it before blowing the insulation.

We did the same stuff in our old house. Made a huge difference. One room used to be a carport and that and the kitchen had no insulation at all. Luckily we have short kids!

@@AGlimpseInside to do over the old carport i had to cut a 12" swuare hole in the gable and put a long paint roller handle on the hose shove it in to the back of thst attic. Just put a gable vent in the hole and nobody is the wiser!

Always wondered how easy or difficult that would be. Thanks for showing us how, and now it's not so intimidating.
@AGlimpseInside

Yeah buddy went really smooth. Let’s talk this weekend

It’s too easy. I did the fiberglass blow in, and it wasn’t as dense as what the cellulose appeared to be which made it a little more difficult to blow in evenly. If you need insulation in your attic I highly suggest doing it this way. I needed about ten bundles for my attic and I bought 15 (just in case) and I DUMPED that stuff in because I didn’t store anything in there. It made a hell of a difference. Although I went from literally 1/2” of 50+ year old insulation to a few feet. Good luck!

Remembers me I didn’t have a look at my attic in a couple of years, time to give it a look and maybe do a top up insulation, great team work by the way !!!

Very nice job Chris, the only problem that I seen. Those can lights, were they rated to have insulation around them. If not then that could cause a problem.
@bairdjc

The most difficult part to blow-in is in prep, not the actual blow-in process itself, like many projects (like painting). Sealing up attic penetrations, protecting soffits, etc, will take much more time than actually blowing in the insulation.

Baffles watching this video: 🤦‍♂️ I don't even have soffit venting and I'm a novice diyer. I still added baffles because you don't want insulation touching your roof deck.
@iamepimethus
@iamepimethus 3 года назад
I did the fiberglass insulation that way. Great easy way!
@kursorken
@kursorken Год назад
How much change did you see after that? I noticed you didn't seal the light fixtures, and not install a baffle so now your soffit vent may be blocked. I think you may find your attic hotter in the summer, which is probably too bad for northern countries.

Hi, you still have some holes along the eves of the roof, if you do not seal them you will get rodents getting in and nesting in the insulation. I had a load of that stuff blown into my attic, I ended up with rats in there, and it was very difficult to get rid of them.
@AGlimpseInside
@AGlimpseInside 3 года назад
Understandable. Those holes have screens protecting them at the moment. They’ve been rodent in bird approved already sir I appreciate the concern no need to worry over here

I noticed that you added plywood up there. Did you spray in the insulation under that and does that impact the R-value as well?

Of course all the insulation was around $100 to rent the machine was a $150 all day rental. Other than that we didn’t prep for too much so we were in it for $250 for sweat equity
