I just started my business on instagram and I only have gotten one order so far which im extremely thankful for and she said she loved it but i’m hoping to have more orders in the future!
Jessica, I tried your recipe and omg omg, I'm in love with your recipe. Its absolutely amazing. I love how it how it feels on my skin and non greasy. I give this a A++++. thank you for sharing this recipe, This is the best body butter I have ever made, thanks to you. May God continue to bless you girl.
I am a business owner and the sole formulator of my natural skincare business. I have wonderful recipes, but this one is great! Thank you so much for sharing :)
Since your a formulator, just curious why use an emulsifier if your not using water. Wouldn’t stearic acid be better. It has a much higher melting point and it’s a stabilizer. It’s an emollient and a lubricant.
Hello and thank you for such an amazing tutorial. I’m new at the art of making body butter and am having a problem with the conversion from % to ounces which is what I prefer to work with. Help would be greatly appreciated. I tried moving the decimal 2 spaces to the left but this leaves me with a very little amount of product to develop into one container of body butter… I need help.
Take your total ounces and multiply by the %. For example, if your total batch size is 16 ounces, multiply 16 x .15 = 2.4 ounces of shea butter; 16 x .30 = 4.8 ounces of kokum butter; 16 x .05 = 0.8 ounces mango butter; etc.
Jessica, this was awesome. I’ve been making my own lotion for personal use for over a year and never thought about adding an emulsifier, you are a god send. I can’t wait to try it, thank you thank you for inspiring me. Also you explanation of the products and their benefits are A++++.
Gm. I asked about a written recipe in either grams or ounces, but you didn't reply. I really like your videos, but would really like links to written instructions as well. Thanks
It is possible to create a body butter WITHOUT preservatives as long as you don’t add water to it since over time, it causes rancidity. A body butter with purely oils and butters with arrowroot powder is called an Anhydrous Formulation which means it has NO water. If you don’t have water in it, you don’t need a preservative. Depending on the percentage ratios of the butters to oils will depend on how thick, dense, light and fluffy it is. I like mine to be denser but still with a bit of airy texture to it (kinda like the Truly Beauty Butters) so I do 70% butters and 30% oils. 🥰 Hope this helps! Also, make sure you store it in a dark cool place
If I may ask, how did you come up with the amounts for the ingredients? Like did you know you wanted Kokum butter to be 30% or did you have to play around with test batches before you found the right consistency and it came out to be 30%?
hey, you can use any substitues, but keep in mind you may not have the same exact results as she did. I use germall plus instead of optiphen and it is fine for me.
There are moments that the music is blending with your fast, high pitched quiet voice. You're voice gets hard to hear word for word. You have a nice voice, its just the volume of the background.
Hi ! I never knew you could use an emulsifying wax in a body butter that doesn't contain water. Is your only reason for using it to help keep the butter from melting in hot summer months?
Thank you for sharing your recipe. As you grow and share what you do teaching your audience how to make these body and room sprays grows your audience offer that they can buy ready made from you or make themselves and wholesale the containers and ingredientwhich can grow into a business of its own. You can make a recipe book and sell that to help others get started with their own business and buy all they need from you. I love to see how you make things your videos are great! But I would prefer to just buy it and would buy from you seeing how you are making this. Also your video on product photography was really good. You can approach restaurants in your area and offer to take their menu dishes pictures for them. Have a rate for digital and one for prints. I’m in the food industry and covid hit hard. Many smaller independent restaurants had to get creative - offer to take pictures for their website for their menu or to create a to go menu or menu in general. Go look at how they are marketing on their menu and website and tailor your presentation to that customers need with your photography. Specially for the internet which so many did not have a presence in. Who’s you the best snd many Blessings.
So when measuring this out how do you measure in % like what’s the oz? I’d love for my body butter to not be oily; feel like it’s hydrating and not oily or dry.
Make sure it's completely cool. What I do is get a bowl with ice and water, place the bowl with the ingredients on top of it and then whip with the mixer.
@@xjennyu7 vitamin E is NOT a natural preservative. It helps in anti oxidation. Optiphen is considered natural, there is also many other different forms of safe preservatives that you would only actually need if you added water to this in any way.
I'm fairly new to making bath and body products. This recipe is a bit confusing to me, how do I convert this recipe to lbs, oz, ml ect? Also if I don't have kokum butter, are there any substitutes that I can use? Or could I use 25% shea butter and 25% mango butter or 15% mango butter, 30% shea butter and 5% coco butter?
Hi! Everything is done by weight, so you won’t need to measure by ML. I gave it as percentages so you can use whatever metric you desire and create however much you want. I’ll give you an example, let’s say you want to make 6 ounces of product, then you’d take the percentages of the recipe and apply it to 6 ounces. 30% of 6 ounces would be 1.80 ounces (6 multiplied by .30 in a calculator) and so forth. If you want to convert it to pounds, then every 16 ounces equals 1 pound. In this scenario, if your scale reads pounds and not ounces, I would just use grams instead, since it’s less confusing (to me) than having to convert pounds to ounces and vise versa. Or, if you want to make 1lb and 6 ounces of product, that is equal to 22 ounces, so you’d use 30% of 22 ounces, which is 6.60 ounces. As for a substitution, if you use a lot of Shea butter the recipe will be really soft, and mango butter has a lower melt point. You can definitely leave out the Kokum butter though and just substitute it for more Shea there’s nothing wrong with that. It will make it creamier and fluffier, but have a lower melt point. If you try it and don’t like how soft it is, increase the BTMS 50 to 8 or 10% to make it firmer. If you don’t have BTMS50, then replace it with Emulsifying Wax NF (start with 5% and go from there). You can play with any combo of butters, there’s no right or wrong answer. Body butters are fun to play around with because the recipe is so flexible ♥️
@@HawthornCompany omg thank you! The way you explained it made so much sense. I was going all over the place trying to figure this out. Thank you so much for your advice and explanation, you're a blessing! ☺️☺️☺️
You should be able to sub any butters and oils for any other ones but it might change texture a but because of the different properties of each different ingredient, for example some oils and butters are more lightweight than others
@@CosmeticCraze wow I never even got a notification you replied to me but thank you. I want to make a small batch of butter I’m just not good at percentage
Hello, this is really great. Where did you get the white container from ? Could you make a video about luxury looking containers too and where to find them♡♡♡
What’s is the purpose of the emulsifier on this recipe if no water is added? I’m new and still trying to figure out how emulsifying wax works and everything I’ve seen so far has water added to it, but this one does not, can you explain? Thank you!
I feel the recipe has too many ingredients making it maybe too expensive to create? I have started making butters too and one of them has this exact texture. Am wondering if I can achieve this texture minus some of the oils and emulsifier being used here?
Hi Jessica, Thanks for sharing your recipe. I've tried others and this was the best! My only problem is it hardened the next day. Any advice on how to fix this? I whipped for 8 minutes with a standing mixer. It got super fluffy after 5 minutes. At 8 minutes it wasn't as fluffy. Should I have stopped at 5? Just trying to figure this out.... :-)
You would just add the missing percentages to something else. For example, just replace the missing percentage of Kokum butter to Shea butter. If you’re not adding extracts then add it to something else (anything you want). Make a small batch and tweak the recipe as you go until you get it perfect for you ❤️
I’ve tried emulsifying wax and stearic acid, as well as straight cetyl alcohol and I didn’t really care for it, but I didn’t mess around with it too much. You can definitely try, but I would start with very very little and work your way up if needed (just make tiny batches lol)
I tried this recipe and although it was nice after whipped it got super hard the next day. I’ve watched other videos concerning this and it’s most likely due to lack of liquid oils in the recipe.
it would be helpful if you write the recipe also in the box below, so it's much easier for us to follow. I can understand Affiliate Marketing, but don't forget the purpose of the video.
hey, divide each percentage by 100 to get the grams or move the decimal 2 places to the left. for ex. 1% = 0.01 grams and so on. The recipe above is 100%, 100 grams or in ounces 3.5274 oz.
Can Aloe Extract be substituted or omitted if I don't have it on hand? If substituted, does it have to be an extract? If omitted, do I increase another ingredient to keep the % at 100%? Thanks so much!
Hi. My body butter is coming out very runny. I put the mix in the fridge over night and it in the morning, the end result was still runny. Can someone please guide me
I love this video! Thank you so much!! I can’t wait to test this formula out. Can I replace the aloe Vera extract for aloe Vera oil? The aloe Vera extract says it’s water soluble.
Hello just watched your video and enjoyed learning the way you make your butter. How do you measure on how much to use, also what utensils do you use to measure?
When formulating body and skincare products, usually they use a weight scale to weigh their products and use glass beakers that have a high tolerance to heat! I’m a newbie at this stuff too but have been learning a bunch of stuff 🥰
the recipe looks amazing but I was wondering how much my btms50 doesn’t melt easily. Takes forever and it is still a bit clumpy. Also when whipping it became hard and into small clumps. Is there such a thing as too whipped? Thanks!
Yikes! Too many sellers claiming these butters help this and that. I’d be careful. I see a lot of people claiming Mango butter helps acne prone skin. This claim has not been scientifically proven; in fact, every dermatologist I know, including 2 of my extended family member dermatologists recommend against applying oily products to acne prone skin. The high levels of fats in oils will clog your pores and create an unfavorable environment. As for dermatitis, what type? There are many types of dermatitis. While moisture is helpful in certain cases, it is important to seek help from a doctor. Cocoa butter, for example, can cause a reaction in some people. If this happens, discontinue product immediately. Many cases of contact dermatitis are relieved when the irritant is removed.
