about 2' of low voltage wire
motor mount bolts, washers, and nuts as mentioned in video... take motor with you to local hardware store and use bolts that damn near slide in the holes of the 3 motor arms... you need to drill the holes in the 3 arms JUST A TAD BIT BIGGER for the bolts to slide thru!!.. match up drill bit for power adapter in back of case
3/4 hole for prop adapter... i just destroyed a 3/4" spade bit to make the hole
SMALL PILOT HOLES, PILOT HOLES, PILOT HOLES before you drill any LARGE HOLES such as the holes for shaft/drum adapter, on/off button, speed control, ramp bolts, brass stopper bolt, blah blah blah

Great video, thank you! One extra tip (sorry if already been pointed out). You don't need to cut/splice the wires on the power button. The bottom of the button unscrews like a tiny flashlight, allowing you to then insert the button from the outside and the leads from the inside. Then screw the two pieces back together and tighten the silver nut to secure against the panel. Can also cut off the 3.5mm adapter on power supply and splice that directly into motor control. The annealer works great, though. Thanks again!

After searching through many videos I finally found this! Excellently presented! Thank you! I don’t think I’ll buy the box. I’ll build it from plywood. Maybe slotted holes in ramp to give it some adjustment range? I’ll paint the box with gloss back sides and ref on the face. Seems like the prop adapter is out of stock as of now.

This is far and away THE BEST case annealer I've seen. You can adjust the speed using tempilaq to give you the perfect anneal for your brass AND (unlike other, far more expensive models) you can choose to drop the brass into water to quench if you wish. All I need do now is get ordering and start building!!!!!!

Great stuff Elfster! I've decided to build one based on your design, but I'll be making some of my own parts with a 3D printer. I'm using a 90 degree worm gear motor and printing my own spindle adapter. And for the case I'm using a piece of 1/2" MDF with some 3D printed bases to hold it at the correct angle and height. Should come in around $60. Thanks for the video and all the details!

Awesome video, I have mine mostly built just waiting on the slow boat from China on the motor. rather than cutting and splicing the on off button simply remove the back of the digital display and unplug the on off button and slide it through the hole .

Thanks a lot for posting this! I ordered my parts a couple of weeks ago and finished building it today and it works perfectly. I did modify the plans a little to add some versatility. I cut the drum long enough to do the longest cartridge that I shoot and cut some spacers to put against the bottom of the drum to build it out far enough to do the shorter ones. The feed ramp is very simple to adjust as well. I have the brass stop set that it works so far with 243, 204 and 6mm br. I may have to adjust it to do my 35 Whelan but I don't shoot that very much.

Have you considered another version with a case hopper? In a cursory look, your design is like 90% of the work. Perhaps a longer case for the hopper and have the DRO's for the hopper and drum on the top of the case. Just a thought, but would like your input. Thanks for this video.

+Richard White I suppose I could but I was trying to make it for under $100. Also it doesn't take that long to manually feed it at around 5minutes per 50pcs. I actually like the extra control I get by manually feeding the annealer and I'm able to get it set up I less than one minute. Good suggestion tho!!
@uscbigdawg

Definitely not a negative criticism. I think it's awesome! I really appreciate the video. I'm looking at a larger case (width) for the brass hopper. Fingers crossed it works. Thanks again for a great video!

I'm just about finished with making this exact Annealer. Need an inline fuse, and a little time to work on it. I used a different motor so I don't have to cut the hole in the back. I kinda foresee the one at a time thing being a bit slow, but I don't shoot that much right now, so not too worried about it. Nice video, well done.

Finally got it built! Collecting parts and improvising those I can't get here, took about three months. Never built anything like this and first I put couple components in places where they caused a problem with closing the case. Now only issue left is the gas torch. I bought one, which seemed most easiest to adapt into this purpose. It now seems, that flame can't be adjusted into correct form. Hope to get this last issue sorted out next week.

Also a late comment, but if it is online it is forever. Great video tutorial. I built one based on yours. Question is my timer is super low on the revolutions. Before you make these super machines. Look for the right temperature for properly annealing your brass. They will tell you that you need tempilaq to get the correct heating temperature. This is nonsense, use what they used to in the past. dark red, two orange. 750° F tempilaq will give you stress relife (longer case life) but will not give you reduced hardness (bullet release).

@@ElfstersRiflesandReloading One mod I plan on making is as follows: Not going to trim the cake pan. Instead, I'll make a 5" disc out of aluminum and bolt it inside the pan on the same bolt. I'll adjust it in and out depending on the length of the cartridge. It will mean modifying the mounting a bit but that way I can anneal any length brass I'd ever need to.

I know this is a way late comment, but I just built your annealer, and it is working very well. Thank you so much for the basic design and parts list. Supports the KISS principal. I did make a few changes to make it more useful for smaller cases like 6.5 Grendel, and I noticed the brass stopper gets way too hot with short cases. I took another u-bolt, cut off all the threaded parts and attached it in reverse orientation to the original u-bolt. I used a 1/4" cable compression sleeve ($.89 at the hardware store) to join the two u-bolts making it longer by double. I moved the brass stopper mount hole to 10:30 from 7:30. This made the brass stopper into a S shape from a C shape, and removed the stopper from the path of the torch flame as the end by the stopper does not protrude proud of the drum. The brass stopper no longer gets hot as the original does. I left the drum the same 1.25" deep as I wanted to be able to convert back to longer cases. In order to force the Grendel cases to expose more shoulder to the flame, I made a Kydex 1/4 circle clip that snaps onto the brass stopper like a flag. This is easily removable. I also made a feed ramp spacer that forces the cases farther from the back of the ramp. The new brass stopper has to be unbolted to remove the drum now, however I do not need to remove the drum to shift to short or long cases. Other changes were to use a rubber table foot to cover the motor, moved the power button to the top of the case middle, moved the speed control to the old power button position, moved the power jack to the top right of the black case panel. These changes allow the case to be opened without wires stretching between case parts. Also you do not have to cut the power switch wires to install, there is a plug in the speed controller to unplug from the circuit board.

Great video. Following your specs I built one of these last year... works great. Have you toyed with a case feeder add-on for this design?
@ElfstersRiflesandReloading
@ElfstersRiflesandReloading 5 лет назад
I only reload in increments of 50 or 100 and really don’t find the need for a hopper necessary. It only takes 5 minutes per 50 cases

Yep. I was in the same boat when I first built it... only doing 20 to 30 at a time takes just a few minutes. But now (shooting PRS) I find myself needing to do batches of a couple hundred at a time so I'm looking to retrofit some sort of hopper/feeder mechanism. I've seen a couple designs based on your original work. Let me see what I can find. Thanks again for sharing this inspiration. I've sent your video to at least a hundred people over the last 12 months.

100% get what you’re saying. I think to have a good size hopper you would need a larger case. There are a bunch of videos on RU-vid showing how to make the hopper and special sensors that detect the absence of the case on the ramp causing the hopper to feed another case from the hopper. I thought about it, but I also have an annealeez for doing large batches of brass. Thanks for your feedback! Thanks once again my friend!

An interesting and simple design, well explained. Have you tried any rimmed cases, though? I'm curious whether the additional width of the rim would cause the case to roll unevenly in the drum.
