Be careful using an ordinary gas camping cooker inside. The fumes can easily kill, you must have ventilation for this. It's super important. Also have an alarm.

This is one of the best camper conversions I’ve seen 👍🏻 keep it simple. I’ve done similar - traveling in Merc sprinter to China and back, this format of keeping it simple works really well. Some top tips here, like the style 👌

This happened to My in-laws in their van and the alarm went off and probable saved them! I’m a bit jealous of your raw beach over nighters lol 😎

Brilliant. Have just found your Vlog and have almost the exact same set up in a Fiat Scudo which I did for about the same budget. I have no leisure battery yet though so only rechargeable/battery lights. It’s brilliant and I’d encourage anyone else thinking of doing this to go for it, and keep it simple!

@Love Sundays - It's a fast growing trend, but I believe if people wait it out, auction sites will have a plethora of 'converted' small/medium sized commercial vehicles, selling at much lower prices. As a result 'van life' from next year could become somewhat cheaper as a post-Brexit budget holiday/housing option. If you're lucky enough to find a good reliable vehicle during the winter months. It's cheap as chips to kit a vehicle out with used wood and aluminium bought from scrap yards. It's handy if one can repurpose furniture, however the biggest hurdle for many, is the sheer running costs (fuel, propane, heater oil, food water and toiletries, etc) and the regular maintenance costs of many an already tired (ex-trade) vehicle, because it'll definitely be clocking up higher mileage cruising around Britain. It's good to at least know your way around your vehicle's engine bay, accessories and charging circuits. As one of my general rules, I budget for twice the money it took to get the vehicle, including an MOT, tax and insurance, also accounting for spare parts, as it'll likely to require consumables, like spark plugs and belts, especially for older workhorse vehicles. Keep up the great videos, everyone benefits from sharing knowledge learned through 'on the road' experiences. 👍🏻‍

I just think that you don’t need to worry about it so much if the build was so cheap. If you invest a fortune and need a new van, or don’t get to use it much, it’s just a stress. This way it’s a fun project with the emphasis in the right place. Love it.

Just spotted the van tour costing and its good to know other folk are on the same page with regard to a 'stealthy' van with your needs sorted at a reasonable price. My electricity needs are catered for by a small jackery, yep expensive however i consider it a good buy and it does the business. Fort he benefit of others i thought your costings were reasonably correct and a good guide. Re using wood from other items and generally keeping eyes open for what is being thrown out by others is a big plus in savings to be made. Mike in Co Durham

I insulated my van with sheets of Kingspan. I spotted skips with offcuts and kept an eye out on FB market place where people just wanted you to take it away. 👍

Great video, this is something that we want to do as well when time & funds allow. Looks like a great comfy way to spend a few weekends away.

I built a stealthy camper, my bed was a fiver , I bought a king size pine bed from on eBay it was local and i actauly cut it up into a slide out trifold type bed the only thing I had to buy was 3 lengths of scant 3x2 , my point is you don't need to buy new you just need imagination, like for instance a double wardrobe of the 50s type upturned on its back can become a fixed bed

Cant beat something so cheap and basic, just how I'd do one as well. Some converted Van's are way OTT

Very informative video! One thing I would change is a high roof, not the highest one. Then a shower and a different type of toilet. Still would be quite cheap compared to a VW California or a some kind of custom camper van . I think I might also add a portable AC. Of course it’s only hot for some days of the year. Today was flippin hot…only 27F…probably humidity made it feel hotter than it was. Morning was in Port Isaac afternoon was back in St Ives.

Shaun....the main object of self buit camper vanning has to be ......Stealth .....I'm nearly at the end of my vivaro build....and intend to keep my van off the radar ...so to speak ....don't know how you've managed to keep the van build for less than a grand though....I'm struggling big time lol ...and I haven't even put the Gold plated taps in yet or the indoor Jacuzzi lol ...Happy vanning mate...

You've done a cracking job there Shaun and for your lifestyle I'd say it's as near perfect as you can get!👌 As I live in the Midlands but always camp in Cornwall I had to weigh up the pros and cons of a van vs caravan, in the end we went for the caravan option and have never regretted it but we did the same as you, no need to spend £15k plus on one, £4-5k and you can get a really decent setup

Do you have an inverter on your leisure battery setup? If you have one over 2000w, you could have an inductive stove instead of a gas one - that way, it won't produce CO2 or cause a potential CO risk?

How do you charge the batteries for the drone?

You bought poppers online? You normally get them off a man in a club toilet.

Does the split relay actually full charge the battery? As I noticed that in my van the only thing that actually charges it fully was adding solar

Do you not have a roof/vent fan in your build? Or did I miss it. I wanted to cut the cost of my upcoming van build by reusing units and wood, but it's not really possible due to a lower total gross weight, I know on some of these larger vans like the Vivaro and Sprinters, they have a really high gross weight, and you can get away with normal units and such, but lots of these vans you just can't/shouldn't be doing that. My friend had one a while back, and he literally stuck full solid wood units and counter tops simply to reuse and keep the building cost down, he was way overweight. I would be surprised if half of these builds on RU-vid are not overweight.
