The budgie cage looks incredible and all of the natural perches are amazing! I do have a few pieces of advice though. The number one thing I wanted to check was that you make sure that the screen on the outside is stainless steal. Budgies die so easily and can quickly die from metal poisoning if any other hardware cloth was used. The second thing is I would highly suggest taking out all of the plastic toys and replacing them with natural toys. Plastic toys can sometimes be dangerous for budgies and can also harbor tons of bacteria. I would also suggest taking the middle of the bell out because even though birds like bells they can be a huge danger to them if they get the middle piece out and swallow it. It would also be a good idea to take the coconut hide out unless you are planning to breed because having a dark space like that can cause some hormonal and territorial problems because they see it as their nest. And finally I suggest switching their diet. Just from looking at those pellets I could tell that they were not good. They are most likely filled with unnatural ingredients and dyes. I would personally suggest bird tricks brand of food. It is made of all natural ingredients with no preservatives, dyes, or added flavoring. They are also cold pressed pellets which means they don't lose any of the ingredients benefits in the cooking process. Birdtricks also has amazing toy bundles of all natural toys that i would highly suggest. They also have a youtube channel which is so helpful! It is also super important to make sure that the majority of their diet is chop ( chopped up veggies and some fruits ). They're so many chop recipes on youtube and anyone of them would be great for your budgies! And one more thing I would say is just to have fun with them! Budgies are so smart and can be tought a number of tricks. They are also known to have the largest variety of vocabulary and are incredibly good talkers when they want to be. They are so fun to train and with a little bit of millet you can pretty much get them to do anything you want from step up, to spin, to play dead, target training, and even recall training where you can get your bird to fly to you from where ever you are. In no way, shape, or form am I trying to be rude and I really hope you don't take it that way. I hope this helps! Have fun with your new little budgie friends!

Harrisons, Tops, Intune, Mazuri are also good brands of pellets. Pellets are expensive so Intune natural pellets are probably the most affordable, but don't sacrifice the quality.

If you are considering getting budgies please adopt. Budgies are considered "throwaway birds" because how cheap, and available they are. They are the equivalent of the goldfish for aviculture. There's a lot of them impulsively bought, and they end up being rehomed or put for adoption.

As a bird expert and a fishkeeper for over 12years now, gotta say you nailed it right off the bat with the setup. You got varying perch sizes and diameters, plenty of toys and best of all, a ton of space for the little guy. Just some insight, even if you are using a branded bird pellet like Zupreem, Kaytee etc. A primarily pellet based diet is very bad for your bird. Too highly formulated and vitamin fortified over the long term will cause gout, kidney diesease, tumors etc. In the past birds died prematurely from seed only diets from fatty liver diesease, obesity, malnutrition etc. but todays times vets are seeing a spike in the former which is caused by a too highly formulated diet. Check out BirdTricks, they have great advice on birds. You got the seed part about right but you should try this 70% fresh veggies with whole grains chopped up in a food processor adding in fruits only once every two to three days at the most(Too much sugar in the fruit can cause diabetes), 10-20% pellets and 10-20% seeds. Millet spray should be given maybe once or twice per week as a treat only but not everyday because it will lose value in the eyes of your bird which will make it harder to train because it makes a great treat/reward for positive reinforcement if the bird is highly food motivated. Check out LiveLaughBirds. Elle is just a little older than your son so he might relate to her and she is a phenomenal bird keeper. She goes through taming, diet and general bird care. As a fellow content creator she might even do a review of your cage because she does that often on her channel and I can tell you from now that you've covered 99% of the requirements but just some fine adjustments here and there and you'll have a permanent Hilton residence for your little feathered buddy. Add in a platform perch in the cage so the little guy has a flat surface to land on and stretch out his feet. Some offcut wood will be perfect.

The wire mesh is a bit of a concern what you can do is soak it in vinegar, scrub it with a metal wire brush, than wash it with hot soapy water. This will remove the galvanized coating from the zinc, and make the wire bird safe.

@r.sanders8448
@r.sanders8448 3 года назад
Just an idea- But since you also keep fish....you may wanna think about taking one of your most favorite back liners for fish tanks, have it enlarged at your local Walmart Photo Center and then apply it to the back wall of your new bird aviary. Not only to make it more updated & aesthetically pleasing to look at... but also to keep your birds entertained with the back scenery. I would also suggest maybe adding in a few bird safe artificial plants (or live ones) along the top & bottom of the cage. Same reason...would help it to look much more modern and pleasing (and not so DIY plain-Jane), but also helps to keep your birds entertained. And maybe a cat/dog waterfall or water fountain or some other type of flowing water source for a small water fountain/pond/bird bath at the bottom of the cage (line with GRIT/OYSTER SHELL, SAND or TILE first to help control birdie water spillage and prevent molding on the wood floor..also much easier to clean up). All birds absolutely LOVE to play and bathe in moving water...so a waterfall/water fountain is a *perfect* addition to any bird enclosure of this size. 😉

I’m thinking of doing this ,but instead of that paper stuff I’m the it ground can we just put dirt there and change every now and then? I thought of this because the food is gonna be in the bowls any ways and I’m gonna put a bathing that station Where im gonna change anyway the water regularly anyway. It probably sounds stupid ,but I thought since they are animals and dirt is natural ,plus I’m gonna put their food in a clean place and not in the dirt.

Absolutely amazing!! The only thing I would add if you haven’t fixed this already is that you should use brown pellets instead of colored ones. There are a few reasons why you shouldn’t use colored pellets. I made the mistake of getting colored pellets too and my budgies would only eat certain colors so they were waiting a bunch of food and costing me more money and if they do eat all the colors then their poop can be a variety of colors so you won’t be able to tell if there is something wrong with them by the color of the poop.if the colored pellets are your only option that’s ok but if plain brown or grey pellets available to you I would highly suggest you get them. I use the zupreme natural cockatiel pellets and my budgies do great with them. Also I’m totally subscribing to your channel!

That's actually a myth there is a range where birds can know a window is there. That's why they recommend if you have a bird feeder to put it at most 3 ft away from a window.

@@SP-qs4yh at petsmart/petco they have budgies kept in enclosures with windows. Budgies are quite intelligent animals. If you keep them in an enclosure with a window all they have to do is get used to it.

They do not fly into this window. They know where the door is and have not flown into it a single time that I have seen. I do plan on putting a sticker on the window however.

@@christopher_scott hi, if you ever plan to build something like this again in the future. What I reccommend is don't use wood the next time, I think this time it was okay to because you provided them with a lot of enrichment. That being said parrots are known for being big chewers, also I would worry about droppings, or water getting on the wood, and causing bacteria growth or mold. A very good idea for a DIY flight cage is to use aluminum square tubing. Aluminum is cheap, when it gets wet it doesn't produce a rust that is toxic to the birds, and it's light weight. Extruded aluminum in my opinion would be slightly better for certain parts because you wouldn't have to add screws if you wanted a plexiglass viewing window since it already has a groove in place. I am not trying to tear apart your idea, or dismantle it. I actually quite like how you wanted to build your budgie a flight cage. It's just I want to try to help making sure it has the least amount of problems further down the road.

Galvanized metal isn’t safe. It’s metal with a zinc coating on which can give birds metal toxicity
