Im just watching these now, learning to sew before adopting 2 guinea pigs. I was wondering what is the material of the templates you use? I tried making template out of cardboard but this looks easier to fold and store. It's definitely a learning process but, I'm sure I'll get better as I keep making things.

Awesome video! I do have a question though. How many yards do you recommend for a 2x4 cage and say I wanted to make 2 or 3 liners total? Thank you!!!
@TheTinyHerd
@TheTinyHerd 2 года назад
I think I used to get 3 yards of each fleece to make a 2x4 liner!

I’m curious why you make the large liners reversible but make the small ones with one solid color?
@TheTinyHerd
@TheTinyHerd Год назад
I like to flip the smaller pads over once sometimes before they get too wet and have to be taken out.
@angeldelgado7201
@angeldelgado7201 Год назад
Question, I bought 2 different colors of fleece 54in x 60in, i wanted to use one for the top color and the other for the bottom color for my 2x4 but I’m not sure if the 60in will be enough length since you recommended around 5-6in extra.
@TheTinyHerd
@TheTinyHerd Год назад
If you do less than 5-6 inches extra you should be fine as long as you have a little bit of extra. Some people do 2-3 inches extra and are fine. Liners will just shrink when washed in hot or put in the dryer, but you can stretch them back out a little bit.

Do you wash your uhaul before you sew with it?? I was told that it would bleed onto my fleece in the wash if I didn’t and that it will shrink and everything will become lumpy looking. But washing it first I’ve noticed it gets really wavy and it is hard to cut straight and to work with. Yours looks so smooth and flat so I just wondered!
@TheTinyHerd
@TheTinyHerd 2 года назад
I don't wash it first, any time I've straight up washed uhaul it's been a huge mess. I guess we'll see because these uhaul pads are thinner and different than ones I've used it the past. But I've never had any bleeding using fleece. I have seen bleeding with flannel. The reason I make my liners bigger than needed is to allow for the shrinkage, and you can stretch it back out. I stretch my liners back out all the time.

Hi! Thank you so much for this series. It was incredibly helpful. I was wondering when you talk about your 2x5 cage, are you talking about a real 2x5 or a c&c 2x5 (which I believe they use 14in in a foot)? I want to mimic your 2x3 or 35x48 but want to be sure to understand the size.

@TheTinyHerd

@@Craftyette you can use pretty much anything you can cut around. Cardboard, thick paper, fabric or fleece you aren't going to use. Some of my pattern are cut from Uhaul pads also.

Do you pre wash all your fleece ? Or is that why you give 6 extra inches on all sides?
@TheTinyHerd
@TheTinyHerd 2 года назад
I don't prewash, I prefer to make my liners first and then do the washing and prepping! You can prewash if you want. I make mine larger because uhaul shrinks a lot more than fleece does, and there is some variance in c&c cage sizes. Too big is better to me than too small!
@guineapigfreakfbpage7463
@guineapigfreakfbpage7463 2 года назад
Okay I didn't realize uhaul shrunk also I've been preaching the fleece and giving a few inches to both sides but always shrinks but im not washing uhaul in my washer alone either so that makes since thank you!
@TheTinyHerd

@@guineapigfreakfbpage7463 that's why I think it's easier to just make the liners first uhual alone does not wash well in my experience

What has your process been? You can try adding a tiny bit of dish soap and white vinegar with the hot water, that works for a lot of people as well.

@@TheTinyHerd washed with laundry soap. Homemade laundry soap. Could that be the problem. Washed in hot water 4 times
