Ever wanted to make your own cage liners for your DIY/C&C cage? In this video I show you a simple way to make professional looking waterproof cage liners in seven easy steps! Each step is explained in detail and alternative materials/methods are discussed throughout the video. A sewing machine is not necessary - though will speed things up a lot if you are able to use one!
New and Improved Instructions! How to Make Your Own Waterproof Fleece Pads: • How to Make Your Own W...
And How to Make Your Own Cuddle Cup Beds:
• How to Make Your Own G...
If you followed this guide and made your own cage liners please let me know! If you have any questions, just ask in the comments and I will reply.
Summary:
Step 1 - Measure the cage/area of cage that you want the liner to fit. Write down the length and width and then add 5cm to each. This will be the amount of fabric you need to cut out.
Step 2 - Cut out your fabrics. I demonstrate an easy tape measure technique which is handy when you are cutting out large areas! Once you have done one, you can use that piece as a pattern for the rest.
Step 3 - Arrange on top of each other and pin the layers together. Remember right side to right side as the cage liner will be turned inside out. Spread out the layers carefully so they don't crease or shift once in place. Pin the corners first and space out the pins when you start - this again helps to stop the layers moving. Check regularly that the pins are going through all the layers.
Step 4 - Sew around the liner, a few mm inside of the pins, making sure you are sewing all the layers together. Don't forget to leave a gap for turning the liner inside out!
Step 5 - Trim the seams around the corners so they can poke out properly and be nice and pointy!
Step 6 - Turn the liner inside out - the fleece should be on top and the waterproof layer underneath.
Step 7 - Sew up the hole! You can either hand stitch using a slip stitch or do it on the machine as I did if you aren't bothered by a visible seam.
Et voila! A perfect cage liner!
We hope you enjoy! Please let us know if you found this video helpful by hitting thumbs up, subscribing and commenting. Thank you!

@rwojcik47

Do your piggies burrow underneath these? I have fleece liners I made that goes up the sides and clipped down over the edge. I tried towels underneath, but I went back to using paper bedding and kitchen roll, which seems to be more absorbent. But messy! I think the pads might be easier, but my husband thinks they would burrow around the edges... As I am the cleaner of the cage, I'm thinking your pads might be easier!

Do you sell these? I know it's none of my business but I really think that you could make a lot of money off of making these and selling these. They look really easy to do but for people like me with next to no spare time, or skill with a sewing machine, you should definitely consider selling these:) P.S. Is Lyra starting to come out of her shell a little bit?

Just wanted to say thank you for showing how you sewed the two bits of fleece together! I'm going to be making my first ever fleece liner soon, but the fleece I've ordered doesn't come in pieces big enough so I'll have to stitch two pieces together. I was worried about how I was going to do that, but this video will definitely come in handy! I don't have a sewing machine sadly, so I'll be doing it all by hand - wish me luck 😅

Great video anywhere that sells secondhand clothing and baby stuff often also sell baby cot quilts that hang around the cot often with pictures on ,make good paded hide away tubes and beds .also you find fleece fabric in these places to give them a good wash on a 40 .car boots and buying a cheep thin single quilt is handy for inside padding .I'm Lucky I make clothing for a living my piggies love new things.🙋 great show.

Fantastic, thanks for the detailed video and instructions. As I had them only for a few weeks, I haven't made anything special, just use pieces of painters fleece, the waterproof one. The only problem is that my piggies are getting under them, using them as covers :)) They are still messing up the plastic cage underneath. Also painters fleece can be washed only a couple of times before it gets unglued from is backing.

Made 2 cage liners and 4 smaller pads. I used anti-pill fleece that was on sale; with a coupon it cost $3.00 a yard (usually sells for $10.99). For the absorbent middle I used adult bed pads (already had them). I found your video as a result of an internet search for cage liners. A link popped up for ready made and nearly died to see the cheapest was $35. Even if I didn't have a sewing machine, I'd use a running stitch to sandwich and hold it together in order to save that kind of money. I can see that this will be healthier and more comfortable for my girls and thank you very much for the video and saving me a boat load of money.
