Instead of taking the log to the lumber mill, Bryan decides to design his own jig in order to slice up even rounds for the spacers for our spiral log staircase.
Super super super.Every problem has a jig as answer.Well done. May some modification may help to keep the saw from chewing the 2 x 4 The 2x4 can be protected on both sides by a steel plate. If the top bar can made adjustable as a "roof fence" The log will be snugly fitting between up,down and sides which will make a square cut. Just thinking outside the box. You know better. I love the family working together with the dog to make a master piece in wooden. I would love to visit your final project.! But i am in UK. Happy woodworking.
Brian has an amazing ability to think outside of the box to come up with a solution to the countless hurdles that arise on this unique project. Truly inspirational and I learn something new from virtually every video clip coming from Colorado Mountain Living. Thank you and well done.
Great job, Brian! So much work going into the staircase 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Never thought about felt in between the treads to help with squeaking - fantastic idea! Looking forward to next episode. Stay safe, Amy and Brian
Nice job... I had to do the exact same thing this summer.. I ended up making a 2x4 jig that screwed into the end of the log, floated over the bark at the top to keep it square to the log face, and bought a lumber cutting guide from Amazon.. it bolts on to the bar of the saw, provides a pivot to cut a perfectly square and true log slice and I didn't run into my wood jig...my logs were no where near straight or even, so it had to be cut with the face as the reference point..
Enjoyed the video. Very beautiful, rustic staircase. Just a little advice as to your mask-wearing. To keep you safe, you should wear it in public places and indoor food shops where people gather/ and wring it off right after you get out/ be sure the outside of the mask does not touch your face; especially mouth, nose and eyes. Wash it or iron it hot, and you are good to go for the next use. Stay safe - am enjoying your videos immensely here in our neck of the woods (Norway 🇳🇴❤️🇺🇸)🐣and happy easter
yeah i dont have a sawmill either so i made a jig bolts on the chainsaw with channel iron that rides over just one 2x4 screwed onto the big log. key is to use a new chain so the saw cuts perfect. if you sharpen a chain uneven the kerf is all over the place. google chainsaw mill amazon
Bryan went for a mountain bike ride last weekend and was stopped by the Sherif who was looking for ID for locals.. They are trying to keep out non locals from the area.
ALL round logs check to the heart in 2 to 4 places over time.. If you cut a fresh live tree in the winter when most of the sap is in the roots,,, cut the to size & drill out the holes,, will allow the drying to come out the center,, much less checking if any!! good luck. aloha
As I watched, I wondered how it would work if you used the hole in the tip of the saw as a pivot point attached to the lower part of your frame and let the weight of the saw push it down through the log.
Looking Really Nice..........Of course I would have done it differently, lmao, it just kills me to see all the armchair quarterbacks throwing in their two cents of HOW TO. YT is full of EXPERTS, lol. Love Y'all.
Jack, you must be the only person in the world who knows it all, and needs no one's help, insight, critique, advice, or approval! There is always more than one way to do something, and your first idea is almost never the best. RU-vid is the platform for sharing ideas and creations. If one did not want others' approval and suggestions, they would not put it on RU-vid. Please show us something you have done on your own, and took pride in!
@@paulmonk7820 I would agree. I have seen many sensible suggestions here whilst sat in my armchair. I am sure that Bryan and Amy welcome our ideas, they did take up the idea of cutting treads in two to save work on finishing. That suggestion could have been made by someone with absolutely no experience of woodwork or other construction experience. At this time when we are restricted from getting out, Amy said she had not left the property for three weeks, then I think it would be a good time for them to use all us armchair denizens. I am sure people would have some good ideas about future projects.
@@jacktaylor1030 Hey Jack, did someone else write your first comment, or do you just not care? Armchair quarterback, expert, lmao, etc are expressions which indicate your level of understanding, intelligence, and commonsense.
We love hearing everyone's ideas. Sometimes we're really looking for help and sometimes we're already set on how do we plan to things. Although, as much as we're working on projects, we each hold full time jobs (so unfortunately our video creation time is limited).
