So far, mostly what I've seen upcycled is for decoration with a mild usefulness included because the finished product looks interesting. This, however, is 100% useful! It first fills a need, secondarily It's interesting because it's unique. I've never seen chain-link that small, so it could be used as decoration as well... GREAT JOB!!!

could you make a jig to hold straight plastic rods in a grid pattern that can then be batch welded together in the sheet press?

Hello :) I don't have the equipment yet. If I melted the plastic in a pot, can I take handfuls out and roll it between my hands? With special gloves? Quickly until thin rope-like.

Great question. This plastic would behave just as any other plastic. Generally plastic struggles to be outside. There are additives and colours that can be added to reduce the damaging effect of UVs.
