I'm working on planning and building a new setup for my cwd. We built her a 4 x 2 x 4 a couple years ago (following your vids, thanks!) but I have to build a new enclosure to fit specifications of the space better. It is either downsize or give her away and I don't trust anyone else to keep up with her needs. Now that I know how she utilizes the space and know how to keep her happy enough and healthy I'm going to seriously upgrade her space even though I'm going to downsize overall. I'm only going down to a 3W x 2D x 4H. Yes bigger is better and yes she does deserve the best and I'm feeling considerable guilt at needing to downgrade. What the heck else am I supposed to do? I took her in as a rescue 4 years ago and at that time I had the space but now I do not. This comment is me trying to justify it to myself haha. But also thanks for being the go - to guy for CWD care and sharing all your hard work with us. The tip on the other vid to use the outdoor halogens so they won't explode while misting is EXACTLY the info I was looking for today. And your words about utilizing the space available was very helpful for my weird guilt!

Glad my content is helpful! No need to feel guilty on downsizing. Infact. If you can make a 3’x3’x4’. That is more space by volume (3’x3’=9ft^2 whereas 4’x2’=8ft^2). Perhaps that size may be easier for you to fit without while still cutting back the length! Feel free to email me (hydrosaurinae@gmail.com) with any further questions. - Alex

Do you have plans for an updated reptile room tour?

Possibly. I have considered filming one to be uploaded by the start of the new year. However I haven't had many changes/updates pertaining to the reptiles since my last tour in 2019. However, since my overall setup has changed. It may be worth filming!

What are you using for the substrate? I'm using jungle mix from zillia and I'm looking for a cheaper alternative.

Hello Eric, I responded to your other comment on a different video regarding the same question. However in the event you didn’t see it: I use ReptiChip Premium Coconut Substrate as the “base bedding”. Then for the female I offer a nest box to which I use Zilla Jungle Mix, Cococoir, and sphagnum moss to give her a perfect medium to lay eggs in. The ReptiChip is great because the “blocks” you get expand and can easily cover a 6’ cage with a decent amount left over.

Is that duct tape along the hinge edges of the doors to help mitigate humidity loss?

Yup! It’s ugly. But it works!

Function beats beauty every time! Took me how many videos to catch it, so it’s not bad at all. It makes a good point of all the small ways humidity loss occurs.
