Gina K has often mentioned that she has problems with her wrist and it was difficult to push down hard on her stamp positioner. A friend of hers named Chuck make the original Chucky tool and sent it to her to take the pressure off het wrist and hand. Gina’s subscribers asked that Chuck make more to sell. He wasn’t interested in making and selling them so he provided directions for making one like the original. Not surprisingly, a lot of Etsy shop owners started making and selling them. Gina dubbed it the ‘Chucky tool’ after her friend, the inventor.
Thank you. I had added a tiny bit of info about that in my video description, after some viewers had commented about it. You have quite a bit of info on it! I will pin your comment to the top!
The Chuckie tool was designed by Chuck Meadows, Gina K’s friend, and sent to Gina K for her to use since she has neuropathy in her hands due to her diabetes. I love your design with the shaker bits...very cute!
hi i just found your account through this video and i clapped when i saw your tim holtz platform and i clapped even harder when you said you don’t want the misti!! ❤❤❤❤ instant follow!!
I must be living under a rock! I had never heard of a Chucky tool before this video. I love your take on the DIY and I'll be making one for myself. "I don't have a Misti nor do I want one - for personal reasons." It may or not be for the same reasons, but I feel the same way. Thank you for sharing your talents with us!
YAY! This is a cool one! I believe the first person that I saw use the Chucky tool was Gina K. and one her subscribers sent it to her. After that it became all the rage. Her's is wooden. I can't wait to make mine with what I can find ideal around my house. Lisa from King rubber stamps made a light up one with a candle lid, it's cool too. Thank you so much for bringing your very well made version to us with a great tutorial!
This is cool. It would be good also if you don't have a stamp positioner , especially for a large back ground stamp, you could ink the stamp, place it ink side up, put your paper down on top & then run the Chuckie tool over it. Thanks Lolly!!
Shaker bits is such a great idea! I’ve seen someone glue glitter ✨ on the inside of the lid too...I like your see through version with shaker bits! 🎉 ❤️ 🎊
It's a bit off-topic but I've found that the candle jar lids are really good for stamping, as I struggle with arthritis in my hands and wrists, and can't always manage even pressure with the acrylic blocks. My first view of the Chucky tool was on Justine's site, but her's had a different name. Again, with my hands not having a lot of strength, I've been trying to find something similar, so thank you for the tutorial. I have the same stamping platform as you, I like it a lot, and it was half the price of the Misti.
Stamping tool -- EXACTLY! The first time I ever heard of a MISTI, I saw the price and choked. That was back before there were any add-ons, accessories, etc. I thought $70 for that piece of plastic was ridiculous, and I thought I would wait for her to lower the price, which she didn't. Tim's was better and less expensive. Sorry about your hands!
I found this very ironic! I just made one last week! It has truly been helpful so far! I made one with the old yankee candle lid and one with the newest lid! They both work nicely!
This technique is far superior to my “trial and error” effort that I made this last week. It turned out ok and is cute and useable, but was far more labor than what you just demonstrated! Thank you for a better way!
I'm so excited to have found this video! I have terrible hand pain, so I've spent the morning investigating how to make my own DIY platform tool for my Stamparatus. I love, Love, LOVE the idea of making this into a shaker! Shakers are my favorite thing to make, and I can't believe it never crossed my mind to incorporate it into the press tool! You made my day! 🤗
I didn't have access to a candle jar lid since our dollar store doesn't carry those , So I got one of the lemon juice glasses from the dollar store and used that period I really wanted a rounded Something for my hand and the bottom of the glass was great it's tall but it works well. As a few people have said Gina K I believe was the 1st one to show 1 and it was made by her friend Chuck so she called it a chuckie. I saw someone post that historically an ink ball or dabber was used in print making in a similar way.
Yes, I added info about Gina K's friend under the video. I hadn't heard of the printing tool (Baron Tool) until viewers started mentioning it. Lots of options :)
Actually Julie Fei-Fan Balzer has been using a Baron Tool for years, I bought mine on Amazon before the interest it is made by Speedball. Great video though. I glue adhesive to adhesive quite often and it works pretty good. Thank you.
Barens have been used in linoprinting for a long time I think. The Chuckie tool is just a home-made version of those. The first 'Chuckie' was made by Gina K's neighbour and friend Chuck (hence the name) for Gina.
Hi Lolly . I searched RU-vid for a tutorial on how to make this tool , and your video came up . I should have known to check here first ! Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I just have to get some of that furniture protector, I have everything else. How awesome to find such a neat tool that requires such little material . I have carpal tunnel in both wrists so this will be a game changer for me. Still a Peep 🐣🐥 ….and love the 🦙! Happy Crafting
Thank you Lolly, I really enjoyed watching you demonstrate . It is just what i need I have been ha ING trouble with my hand as I now have what they call a trigger finger here in Australia. A couple of fingers click and freeze and make it nearly impossible to use my hand. So this would be a blessing, will have to start drinking coffee. 😊
I made mine similar. I used the lids from a dollar tree glass container...used art glitter glue inside (with a paint brush) and fine glitter, 2 layers. Then I use thick stencil blanks cut into a circle and those floor felt pads.
Hi Lolly...Good video! I happened to be in Target, remembered your tutorial and found a deep lid candle and made a Chuckie tool right away. I LOVE it! It is so helpful with a stamp positioned tool. Thank you!
So funny. Never heard of a chuckie tool but now I must have one! Lol. And I have a cotton ball jar with a lid like that already knocking around my work bench. It is too small to collect items but it is such a weighty object it just seemed like it had to be useful. Thanks for the cool idea.
Thank you Lolly for this great tutorial, it was my afternoon project today and has turn out to be lovely. I used the stopper from a jar of Dow Eggberts coffee - so I also get to drink the coffee :)
This is terrific, I thought it was awesome, I had thought of that floor scuff preventer.. I love the shaker stuffs in the clear glass. Awesome! Thank you.
I've heard that. Some call it a baron and some say baren. I wonder if it's based on where we live, as different countries spell certain words differently
Lolly. Thank you so much for that tutorial. I was asking my husband to do one, but after seeing this video, I can definitely do it myself. I especially love that you made it into a shaker. How fun is that? The funny part is that I never thought to use the top of a candle. Oh my Goodness. So easy and so convenient since I have candles in my house.🤪😜 Tfs. God Bless and be safe. 🤗🤗🤗 P.S. The first person who I saw using this type of tool was mom2create. Hers was the first video I saw of this tool. Then afterwards everyone started making their own.
Hey Lolly! I love your “LOLLY TOOL”! Well done! I have also had recommendations for the Chuckle tool also! Yours looks just lovely! Added bonus...the Lolly Tool sounds great to me! Thank you for the tutorial!
This is an AWESOME idea! Kudos to Chuck for such a cool creation!! I know that I have glass candle lids. But...I wonder if regular felt could work? Maybe glue a couple of layers together? Thanks for the demo, Lolly! 💟 ~Suzy
I use a layer of fun foam then glue reg felt to it n it so work I got a stamping block that got a bulid in handle which I buy at dollar tress yrs ago. I end up just adding the fun foam n felt layer glue to it.
Those are very cool....I have some replacement covers for furniture movers that are very fuzzy. I'm going to see if I can find something to fit in it or try my hand inside....
Yes! I keep the jars because they're so nice in their own right, and if I wanted to buy one, it would cost much the same. I buy my coffee at B&M, or Home Bargains, as it's a couple of pounds cheaper than Asda or other supermarkets. I use some of the jars for pasta and rice, or storing other things, and I also use them with pillar candles. The glass itself is no different, as far as I can tell, from the official candle jars, and none have ever cracked. 🌻
🤣we must've seen the same video.....I have my husband cutting a round piece of wood right now....Mr La Vie....is being put to work 😆🤣....ooooo I like your index ring☝️
I used supplies from Dollar Tree--I think it cost me about $3 (the tools are close to $40!). The "felt" from DT was terrible quality, so I cut up some mole skin I had in the hall closet and it works like a dream! I love the idea using shaker bits---I used glitter.
Thank you for sharing this! I don’t have a stamp board thingy but I’m thinking I’ll adapt it somehow to use with my gelli plate! I’ve seen people using what they call a baron (sp. ?) (Berrin?). Anyway I think I can adapt the ‘Chucky’ tool! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Lolly! I just made one from your video. I'll try it tomorrow after the glue gets almost 24 hours of dry/cure time. I used Weldbond to glue white cardboard to glass. I hope that holds.
Just buy one of the wooden block backed blackboard eraser from the dollar store/poundshop or 2 for £2.95 on Amazon ( with full, thick felt pad). Thats what I did, works a treat!
this is a great shaker tool idea if i find a lid i make one too but i own a stamping block from dollar tress yrs ago with a build in handle n just add fun foam n glue on felt as well n that work great too. I guess I can try to look into to my townhouse dumpster bin when I throwing out my garbage if I can find any lid lol n j/k
@@LollyPalooza that will work too . my mom just told me she see those glass with lid at the dollar tree store. I will go to my nearest one n try my luck too.
When you started making this, I thought you would have used the flat side of the glass for the sliding part, as that would have given smooth, even pressure to the entire surface as opposed to only the circle ring edges of the other side. If this works, I guess that's ok. Personally, I find that positioning the stamp on the platform door near the center or an edge gives a better impression as it allows the door to flex more readily than at an edge which doesn't have the same amount of "give". Your end product is very cute, though.
Quick question....can I apply the felt on the opposite side( wider side) and just use a clear topper to the smaller side to see the shaker. I'm thinker you'll have a wider coverage and a better grip.
The Chuckie tool is a really interesting little device! I love your two DIYs. what is your stamp press that you are using? I could not find it in your favorites list. 🐝🐝🐝
Ah. Well, the reason is that it's no longer available in the US and is out of stock in the UK. It's the Tim Holtz stamping platform. He was sued by the maker of the MISTI and forced to remove his platform off the US market. Well, anyone who has remaining stock is allowed to sell them off, but Tim cannot manufacture more for the US. I found them on Amazon, though! amzn.to/3wqLtB9
Thanks for the link; I have added it to my cart. I have another stamping thing that I think it’s from Fisker‘s but I have been unable to make that thing work for me.
@@gailagilliland3268 thank you. If you are unable to purchase it today, then if you don't mind, remove it from your cart and put it in when you're ready to check out. We don't get credit after 24 hours of it going in your cart. :(
Hi Lolly! The original Chucky tool originated from “Gina K’s” friend, Chuck. I’m sorry I do not remember his last name but he made her one for her to use and it has taken off like a rocket with different designs being made to do what it is intended to do. There are so so many. His is made with a wooden curtain finial, I believe along with the felt slider that is already sized for the finial. I made one for myself like his which fits me better because I had surgery on my hand and it is sized perfect for me... It’s higher than the candle type. You can check with Gina for his name for more details. He really should market his. Hope this helps. (It is on a video of hers that I saw live over the last 3 months when she told this but I couldn’t find it when I searched back, sorry!)
I can't find the lemon sparkle mix in your shop. Are you sold out? Thanks for this lovely project. I just got the stamp positioner tool, and *need* a chuckie tool!!
here it is www.lollypaloozacrafts.com/products/Shaker-Elements-by-Dress-My-Crafts-Choose-Shape/864571057 you will need to then choose the style you want.
@@LollyPalooza The sprinkles are lovely! And I had an easy shopping experience on your shop site. The survey wouldn't download, somehow, but I just want you to know how happy I am that I can make a chuckie like yours! (Some of the candles at Wal Mart have glass lids like you used.)
