DIY Comic Book Mod Podged Shoes

Anyone who is morally torn about cutting up a real comic book: I just want to warn that printing out on normal white paper at home is going to make your colors bleed and streak when you go to put that final layer of glue on to seal your hard work. Any kind of glossy media paper like a comic book or a magazine is the most ideal paper for this kind of project. If you do want to print out images though, laser printers will give you the best results.

You cut up a real comic, omg my heart. But it looks cool so I'd photocopy some of my pages.

Love the idea, just really don't care for how the video was presented.

Another thought...have some razor blades available to trim the paper along the ages. Modge Podge glue would work too. And yes, thin layers of glue is best to allow it to dry quicker. Another thought (omg I'm on a roll) There is a way to use thinner paper, by modgepodging the one side of the whole sheet of paper, letting it dry..., and then soaking it in water to release the other side's backing, letting each layer dry....thus the paper wouldn't be as thick to glue on. It's a lot longer to do, but the look might be more stable, perhaps? Just an FYI from my end. THIS is a very cool look. Thanks for the Inspiration :-)

What about images printed from the injet or will the glue make it run like crazy?

I have done suede like shoes and it works just as awesome and in fact grabs even better :) I make alllllot of shoes via this way and hand paint and u most def can do suede :)

Ugh! Scan some of your comics (or google image) and save some. Use a photo editor to make a collage you want with them, print that onto printable fabric sheets, THEN mod podge. Plus you'd need a good sealant. Especially if you tried to use paper products on it, or this shoe here is screwed the first time you nick it into a curb or get it damp at all!

I was wondering if this could work on all shoe materials? Leather, suede, new buck, canvas..

I did this but if you ever stand or walk in a way where the shoe moves the comic coating cracks. My shoe bent a tiny bit at the front when I walked and eventually it all snapped off :/

Use a spray varnish to seal them.

Just wondering, how would you treat the surface to make sure it stays connected? Would you maybe sand it a bit so that the paper sticks securely? I did some work on a pair one time, and it started to 'lift', and I wonder if I did not prep the surface enough. Maybe treat it with alcohol first, to take off any grease? etc. Thanks! Jules

are these shoes waterproof like can they be used in rains or washed ??

It really doesn't matter how thick the "glue" is on the shoes... It can be sand papered and polished.

Yeah, I had to do this for a friend's wedding, she's doing a DC comic theme and I'm a bridesmaid, so I had to cut up a Flash comic and it hurt lol it wasn't my comic though, I'd never trash my own beloved comics It also really hurts that some people I see wearing stuff like this have no clue what the actual comic or superhero is. Makes me sad.

could I use an old dictionary or book?

lol I fine my comic books very rare to tear it up. I rather not touch my comic books or manga books. Buuut.the idea of it ..is not a bad idea. I'll jus use something like Spiderman
