If you own a drill and a hole saw pretty much any tub can be used as a container 😊 ! Another container I use is whey protein/food supplements tubs. The 5 lbs ones are big enough so you don't have to top the nutrients too often, which is helpful when the plants get big.
yes that's true! since I have limited space though, I base the containers on the size of the plant and roots to be able to grow more veggies. and i also don't mind the refilling work :)
You have good ideas on recycling containers, but by cutting such a large opening and using a net cup that goes deep, your water level is much lower, basically reducing the amount of usable water, and need to refill more frequently. Another better idea is to use pool noodles cut about 1-2 inch thick and a slit on side, then pinch seedlings in it so it can rest much higher in a container, and using a smaller opening, this allows using more of the container to hold nutrient water.
yes, i've seen some videos using pool noodles and i think those are good options. i just make use of what i have. i also could have just made the hole smaller so that the net cup doesn't go deep but rather sits in the hole for the roots to fall down. thanks for your comment!
