DIY CR Laurence Bunk Windows Install | 2021 Ford Transit Van Build Conversion Ep. #3

In the 3rd video in our 2021 Ford Transit van conversion series, Mike first cut 2 holes into the sides of our van to install our CR Laurence bunk slider windows. After that, we finished off the week by starting our insulation. We are using 3M Thinsulate, Low-E Reflective Foam Core and 3M High Strength 90 adhesive spray to insulate the van.

I prefer the Arctic Tern windows. I was a travel nurse for 11 years and discovered how sound transmits through single pane glass. The Arctic Tern are double pane acrylic. Much quieter and acrylic performs better thermally as well. The CRL windows look better from the outside, however. Good job with the plastic sheeting. Closed cell spray foam has more than 2x the insulating properties (R7 per inch) of the thinsulate (R3 per inch) It also has good acoustic properties and can reach wall cavity areas that the thinsulate cannot. Spray foam also increase the wall structural strength as well. You do have to run an electrical conduit before shooting spray foam. If the glue on the thinsulate fails it will ball up in the bottom of the wall.

The windows look good 👍 I told my wife Cheryl they will do the wiring before insulation it looks like the type you have it can be wired later! Being an x painter I noticed you forgot to put on your mask while spraying 🤨.we look forward to the rest of your build also like the detail you put into your videos.

Thank you for watching! We are a couple weeks ahead of this video now, but Mike is getting ready to work on the flooring next and then do the wiring! If we would have done spray foam then we would have wired first. You're right about the mask, he forgot to pull it down for that first clip but remembered after because that adhesive spray is pretty gross!

Thanks for the video, looks good. I am curious about the Transit van sides and the window placement. Did you do anything special to compensate for the curvature of the van sides? It seem like the top of the window would be flush with the van side, but the bottom of the window might be a bit away from the van side. Wondering how that worked out.

Thanks! No, we didn’t do anything to compensate for the curvature. The way the window installs, the window has a trim around it plus a trim ring that screws onto it. So when you install the window on one side plus a trim ring on the other side they sort of sandwich the sheet metal between the 2 pieces.

We've taken the bulky cover off the wire harness so far, and are thinking about trying to move it down a bit since it will cut into Mike's shoulder space in our shower. We'll have to look into those videos, thanks!
