Ugh, now I have to make these. lol. I swear, nothing beats a home-made prop. You just can't get that feeling from cookie-cutter props from the big haunt store. I love that you build things using commonly available products. You also have an easy speaking voice. This makes it very easy to understand what you're doing. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!!
@@StiltbeastStudios Yeah that's what I plan to do. It's amazing how well the bobble in a gentle breeze. I want to run some wire up to the heads to control LEDs and a speaker from my haunt controller. I plan to use a motion sensor to trigger them when someone walks by hahahahaha. I love scaring people.
I can totally see these mounted in our graveyard so that the mount posts are hidden a bit by the tombstones we have and some green light being cast on them. Thank you for the idea!
Innovating to give the illusion on the cheap... I friggen *love* these videos of yours. Thank you for continuing to share at all the levels so everyone can have some fun. It's obvious that you're doin' what ya love. That's the best life. You must be the only content creator that replies to every comment, too. The world could use a few more of ya, brother!
Loved making mine. A few snafus - had some adhesive that didn't want to fully dry. I put mine out in mid-sept. Warm/hot late summer days bent the PVC so that they stopped floating. I inserted rebar into the PVC which was great - until the frosts of October came and made the PVC pipe brittle and ended up breaking. Thinking I will put some sort of highlights in the draped fabric, and maybe stronger spot lights this year, otherwise they disappear in the night. Changing the landscape fabric to a iridescent sheer makes for some cool ghosts.
yeah even tulle fabric over this makes some great ghosts. Also you can use thicker pvc to combat the sun bending- Im in TX so by the time it gets cold enough to get brittle Halloween is way over.
Incredibly easy and cost effective making these! Infinitely better than mass produced, big box store choices! How lucky you are to have been able to use your creativity as a job *AND* you have the puppers with you at work! Soooo jealous! 🤣🤣🤣 Keep the ideas coming, please! By this time next year, with your videos, my Halloween yard will be the scariest for miles around! THANK YOU!
Thank you once again, Alan! I love the fact that every part of this is easy but so effective! These are better than the ones you can buy for so much more money and they even move better (so creepy) thank you so much for sharing your talents. I really can’t wait to make these. You are the Haunt master!❤️🤘🏻🎃🤘🏻
I added cut soda cans with tea light candles to reflect on the face of the tombstones, spray painted the outside black, and left the silver on the interior to reflect the light. It added pop to it. I also added glow in the dark, dry brush highlights on my version of dementors, and it made them stand out just a bit more with the face and hand features. Thanks for the videos, Alan. You truly inspire and teach. And im gonna "go make stuff"
16 seconds into the video, and there's already a useful (brilliant!) tip. I never would have thought of a box support for the head. 2 minutes 45 seconds - Mr O & I are thinking of how we could use just the heads to make a creepy swamp beast pop-up for our witch's bog yard haunt. And when you rolled the backer rod in your hands to make the fingertips pointy, we both just looked at each other open-mouthed. Great video, great prop, and great inspiration!
I used this idea to start upgrading my hanging ghouls that I've had for years and I love it! I had an issue with the 1/2" pvc as the next morning he was lying in the grass but once I shortened the post a bit more I was good.. off to upgrade more now! Thanks again for a great tutorial.
Just love these guys, I am sure my hubby and I can make these even though we are ancient and move pretty slow. Thank you for making these tutorials, you are very creative !!! Halloween is our favorite holiday and will be decorating as long as I can. Thanks again.
Finishing my third dementor and happy to add the following tips. Hands: Don’t go anywhere near the fingers with a high temp glue gun. The glue will melt the backer rod fingers when you try to use it on the joints. Low temp gun worked better but still opted for black electrical tape on a few joints. Also, as I starting rolling the fingers I was surprised how long it was taking to create just one finger tip. As a result, I grabbed my heat gun and created a realistic finger tip in seconds. Dementor outfit: I found that adhesive spray and a glue gun worked better than just the spray. The outfit would occasionally separate until I reinforced with glue gun. Dementor head: This may be controversial but I wanted to add a little more pizzazz to my upcoming display and when I realized my dementor face didn’t turn out as nicely as Allen’s did I committed an act of heresy. That’s right, I bought masks on Amazon and love the Dementors even more now. Although, I suppose they are no longer Dementors now. It’s like a Dementor did the nasty with another monster and I now have their love child for my next Halloween display. I also made a few other changes that I cannot discuss because I want mine to be awesomely unique. Thanks for the fun project Allen!
Wow! this is the first time i have watched one of your videos. i LOVE it!! you are great at taking your time and explaining everything so clearly and simple. GREAT DIY instructions!!! thanks!
Good Grief!!! that was such a teaching video! loll I loved it ,step by step ,your fantastically Halloween all the way ! what fun !! you hooked me I subscribed 🤡
@@StiltbeastStudios Oh sorry! All the pipe insulation making the body, and then feeding the arm through, it's similar to a balloon sculpture. But this one won't pop!
I've had this huge grim reaper for decades that is pretty muck nekked and showin' his, uh, bones and I feel horrible but he shows up for doorman duty every year. Poor Grim😢😢 but watching this I'm pretty sure I can get him a new outfit to go with his grinning chops. I may even make him some friends! You've breathed life back into something that collects them😊😊
Would you happen to know how these would hold up in stronger winds? Or how would you reinforce them more for heavier winds/storms??? TIA, love these!!!
There are two ways to reinforce these for heavier winds. This first school of thought is to actually reinforce them. Spray the fabric with Flex Seal so it has a thin rubber coating and is more durable and thicken up the pipe they are attached to so they sway less in the wind. The second school of thought is to us reinforce them. Instead of using landscape fabric, use tulle fabric. Yo’ll have to get more of it and punch it up more for it to show well but it is so loosely woven that air moves through it easier and it’s less affected by the wind.
@@StiltbeastStudios thank you those are awesome ideas!! I was thinking if I use bed liner spray on the fabric to weather it and weight it down a bit but would probably have to have a thicker pipe of course to reinforce that. What do you think??
this really needs its own video there are so many differences- and which one is the strongest depends on what you are gluing really, the best for plastic is not the best for eva foam or for fabric. look at this site- glu-stix-online.com/collections/glue-sticks
Hey Allen... met you Friday opening night @Dark Hour... revisiting this video and have a question... how well will the hot glue and pvc pipe hold up in the Frisco Texas sun and heat? IVe had issues with props before since we have moved here. Also. DH was AWESOME! Thanks again.
I’m halfway through making my second dementor. Going to get them set up tomorrow, and I oddly want to show you. I’ve made numerous things over the years, but not once did I want to show the original creator. How can I share what you’ve taught me?
Thanks for this tutorial, made one tonight. My wife's one complaint about it is that it looks too much like paper (cause it basically is lol). What can I do to i guess resolve this if any, aside from adding a layer of bed sheet.
Great video! I enjoyed your efficiency and technique. It will take me longer than your video to find any one of the materials needed in my household…I have them all, somewhere ;-)
Found your channel today & am blown away! New subscriber from Norfolk, U.K. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. We’re the only ones in our little village who decorate our house for Halloween! We’ve got a couple of weeks to make these, plus ghosts using the same tips & tricks. But we have a problem …. We have a solid surface with gravel on top, so can’t hammer anything into it. How on earth can we stand them up? Please, please help!
welcome! and you can use a five gallon bucket that is full of gravel of cement to put the pvc pipe in, the bodies are light enough it shouldnt tip over at all.
@@StiltbeastStudios Wow! That was a very quick reply! Thank you. We’ll certainly try that… maybe a mix of gravel- filled buckets & cemented ones (& see which works best for next year). We’re going to hang a couple on thin elastic as well! Thanks again for your inspiration 👻👻👻👻
0:33 Hi! This is perfect for my Harry Potter Halloween theme. I also want to make Tom Riddle’s tombstone for my yard. What fabric would you use for the figure guarding the stone? I can’t attach a picture, but I found pictures on google.
Also did you brush paint the styrofoam heads? Mine melt with spray paint. My kid is a big fan btw! Always wanting to make your creations. Thanks for all your work!
18:31 fan is consideration but horrible aesthetically closer…I suggesting a 50’ monofilament line attached to helium balloon (the foil ones that don’t leak). Watch for trees and power lines and adjust accordingly…guarantee animation like you never imagined…could have multiple balloons at different heights and connections to pole and extension tags to arms and apparel…it will become a giant knot in air with balloon twists but will retain motion on each monofilament attachment & even have it change over the 2-3 weeks that the balloons last as they alter their arrangement in air. Best animation you could imagine! I can’t believe you didn’t add some LED (personally not a fan of the audio so skip that!)
Believe this is my first channel to subscribe to after years upon years scrolling youtube (im 44 fwiw). In simple words, you're f#&@+ng awesome dude. Keep the content coming!!! Cheets!! Edit: that dude down there v v v v said it better than me.... i agree with everybword ofnit.
Thank you, sir for another neato lesson. A question, when using florescent paint for these kinds of props all in black for inside a darkride, how would you paint it? I mean to show the figure without 'garbling' it? Please advise. Thanks again, Honcho.👍👍😊
There are 2 ways, light drybrushing of the UV color, which can be much more realistic- OR my favorite way is to fully paint it with UV then go in with an airbrush and add in black shadows and details. I hope that makes sense
@@StiltbeastStudios it sure does, thank you sir. 👍👍 Can i use the Same technique for UVing props painted with different multiple colors? For example, if i had a Frankenstein prop holding a bloody limb, would i paint the entire body, face and bloody stump as well as the blood with UV paint? Much onliged👍👍
wouldn't a hot glue gun with low temp be a warm glue gun? ;) love this project. I showed it to my wife who LOVES halloween.. guess what I HAVE to do today?
Great guide. Made my first dementor today. Love your videos, even if I don't understand every word, but I can understand a lot from the video. However, I've been trying to figure out what naphtar is for months. Is this something like nitro dilution?
@@StiltbeastStudios Oh my, I was so excited to see you replied! Thank you so much for the info, my whole family watches you! Thank you so much and have a wonderful day!
