This is perfect! I've been debating whether or not to buy a sherpa jacket but didn't want to since I already have so many denim jackets, so I will definitely be giving this a try!

Jenn Lee I literally made one years back and I didn’t have a denim jacket back then, but after searching and scouting for one, the entire diy project cost me $20. $15 for the jacket and $5 for the fabric. So your project would certainly cost less

Been teasing this on Instagram for too long, let it be uploaded! Since the last two vids were faux fur I think I need to take a little break from the fuzzy fabric section :) let me know what you want next!

Study your nearby thrift stores, figure out when the trucks come in or what days the most clothes come in and try to go that day and the day after depending on when they shelf. Then you will have so many more options because obviously everyone wants the good stuff.

would be cool to try to make a sherpa lining vest that's removable, too. i'm a denim jacket junkie and have some really cool hand embroidered ones that i miss in the winter, but wouldn't want to permanently move into my cold weather wardrobe either. maybe it can be buttoned in or something, so the buttons can be cut off once the vest isn't needed.
@withwendy
@withwendy 6 лет назад
Buttoned in lining is totally a thing, you would simply make a sherpa vest and have snaps to connect it to the inside of the denim jacket. The major changes this would mean would that your denim jacket would now have small snaps on the inside (if placed strategically, shouldn't be noticeable from the outside), as well you likely wont be able to wrap the sherpa trim over the collar edge.
@elinharry8389
@elinharry8389 6 лет назад
If you want it to be easy to remove you can sew it on by hand with long stitches. I did this myself, and it looked the same but was easier to remove :) only thing is that it takes a bit more time.

Maybe the denim colar could be slipped into like a Sherpa colar... Kind of like a pillow case. Anybody understands what I mean??

Yessss oh my goodness I had the same idea today which is why I looked up this tutorial to see if it was a thing!! I was thinking of using the snap buttons (the small metal ones) but was worried that the sherpa/polar fleece would fray?

Love this! I will definitely be thrifting a jacket and recreating this for the fall! Wendy ~ it would be super useful if you included (even if approximate) how much fabric you purchased & used on each project to use as a guideline when recreating the pieces.

This video was very helpful. I wanted to line a denim jacket for my niece, but with fleece quilted to canvas for a sturdy lining. I also substituted some faux wolf fur for the collar. The project was a fantastic success. Everything fit perfectly and stitched up well. Thanks for the inspiration and easy to follow instructions.

Wow Wendy, super cool! I have two questions: 1. Do you use a special needle in the sewing machine when sewing this thick? 2. How would you wash this jacket? By hand only?
@skylerhall1537
@skylerhall1537 5 лет назад
You probably could have rubbed down the tacky backing with some talcum (baby) powder. It's really good at getting tackiness off glued surfaces. I used it to remove the sticky feeling on some pre-glued stretchy rayon and it helped soften and un-sticky-fy it

This project is amazing! I have a bulky denim jacket that I don't use anymore so it may fit just right. If I wanted to do the sleeves too, should I measure them from the jacket and attach them separately since the shlouder is low like yours? Thanks :)
@withwendy
@withwendy 6 лет назад
If you're doing the sleeves then just sew the sherpa sleeve to the sherpa vest, and skip sewing it to the shoulder of the denim. Once you seal the end of the sleeves together it will all stay together anyway :)
@Bebe-de6hk

Do you draw out sketches of your clothes before you make them?I’m learning to see and hopefully make some clothes for myself. But I can’t draw that well but I feel like I won’t need to since I know what I want to make. Would it be worth it to learn how to sketch as well?
@withwendy
@withwendy 6 лет назад
I do sketch! You really don’t need to learn too much though because there are sketchbooks that already have forms for you to draw on top of. I’ve mentioned Fashionary products a few times on my channel, they’re really worth looking into!
