This was perfect as a vanity desk for me. ru-vid.comUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr Especially the glossy finish. Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.
I did this to my exact same table and love it!! I did a grey stain on it and chalk painted the legs white, it's so cute and I'm so proud of myself. Thank you for putting up your video
I had that tile table too years ago. It was not the best for my kids trying to do their homework on because of the tile ridges. You did a super job renovating it!! I loved your previous table and chairs too!
I love a good DIY table too! Our table is built from common pine lumber from Home Depot, sanded and stained. We've had it for probably 6-7 years now, and it's held up really well! Yours should hold up too, especially with the poly on it. I'm currently addicted to making over mini stools with chalk paint. I use them for arranging small decor pieces on tables and counters.
Let us know any cute cover ups on the dining table skirts edge where it comes together when closed .more so on the farm house style that have leaves ( medallion, square diamond.) And can screws go under and maybe cut center board thinner to bring outer boards in to gett 2 screws apples 🍎 oranges 🍊 looking forward to another farm house table or next creative project 😀
I love it, and wonder if you could tell me how far over the original table you made the new wood fit where it hung over the two length and width edges of the original tiled table top. I am working on one right now and wonder what would be a good measurement for the overhang. I really do not like the original table that will show under the new one if I do it, and am wondering if it might be ok to put some type of trim under the new top to cover it....What do you think of this idea ....I can take the truth.....LOL pat
You're table turned out beautifully😍. I'm going to try to sand & refinish ours, but my husband keeps warning me that it might just be a thin laminate layer and not nice wood all the way through. So I'm a little nervous😬. 💗 Tfs I love how yours turned out!!
I've sanded tables with thin veneer before. You can try a very small spot and sand it gently by hand, to see what you're working with; or you can try stripping the finish off with a product like citristrip 😊 Its much safer to do that then sand. I hope that helps!
Looks great. Now, NO MORE SHAMING YOURSELF for doing what you love! If you want to refinish a table a day, a table a week, a table a month, do it! For some reason, this world may just need more refinished dining room tables. Deep breaths and keep reminding yourself that you were put here for a reason, and it may very well be to spread the dining room table love!
Loved your table makeover and your excitement I have a table with tiles (some are broken and grout has become undone). The wood legs and frame are so strong and nice. I want to figure out how to remove the tiles and put in colorful mosaic tiles as a makeover.
Nice finish and nice video tutorial but a table top for dining done this simply is going to cup and you will have food particles in every crack as the wood expands and contracts so not an enjoyable surface to eat off when a cups tip over and plates don't sit flat. Alternating the wood grain helps and sealing the entire thing top and bottom for even moisture distribution but that won't save it completely and depends on your climate and the wood chosen...ijs
Well done, but I personally would have put a sheet of 1,8cm MDF underneath it, so that the pine could be glued or screwed onto it. Pine runs its own life, and it will start to bend upwards in the middle after a while as I discovered over the years. ;) Cheers!
if you had used a wood conditioner on the pine, then the stain would have been much more even. The brown stain with the pure white legs made it look worse than with the tile. A pine or honey stain would have bee more effective with the style of the legs.
Well you’ve talked me into doing this to my highball table until I can buy all the tools I need to build my own farmhouse. Let me ask you. My table is a perfect square. 42 1/4 inched all sides besides height of course. Should I still do like you did by finding the center and lining up the planks like that? What would be easier do you suppose......leaving it a perfect square and cutting my 8 feet boards down to fit the square or could I make it a little more rectangle by only cutting down to 6 feet? Sorry I’m just new to building.....I’m usually only painting my stuff over. Your video is giving me bazaar confidence lol
Not sure if you’re still making these but can you make a round one!? I have a small apartment and I’m looking for one that’ll fit in my dining area!!! Also a coffee table! 🤣
Hi! How much did you make a profit? and you are not crazy I did the same think on one table that was glass and the glass broke just I didn't but wood filler in between the boards but my tenants love it. Maybe I should put filler because they have been eating on it so I'm not sure if bread crumbs are in between the board I will see. Just a note lots of bed bugs come with second hand furnisher so be careful costs thousand to get rid of those bugs. I'm so afraid of that reason I don't buy second hand or free stuff. If your living in Montreal let me know maybe we can start a business together. Keep up the good work. Helen
If you are going to just use an old table, why not use some nice plywood and screw up from the bottom of the table. Then just glue and use some finishing nails to put a 1x2 around the edges. It would look nicer and be a lot less work.
QUESTION ? ...why do you sand between each poly layer? I never done a big project like this but would love to give it a try and have a very similar table .. so just curious cuz I don't know a thing about it?
so ive been trying to do for sometime now! I have been stuck on the stain part. I cant find one I like. I love this one but the dont make it anymore!!!! how is that?!?!?!?!?!?
I have to ask why did you do such a trouble top to that table. For a start the top you added, would have made the table to high to sit at even an inch higher is to Much when eating at a table. And, to add that cheap table to the top would make it way to heavy. I just don't get why you didn't remove the tiles and do a tile mosaic pattern in wood. You could have done so much more by removing the top and adding a new one.
Wow! I own this exact same table. It’s in my kitchen and I love the size and dimensions. I considered shopping for a replacement but cannot find a comparable size. This DIY is the answer to my problem. With 4 new chairs I can save money by improving what I already have. Thank you so much!
I was soooo bothered by the old top showing under the new one but was extremely relieved once u painted that part..and once u did it made the whole thing 1000 times better!
Depending on where you were screwing the wood into, next time you could consider smaller screws and screwing UP from the bottom, about half-way through the board. That way far fewer holes to fill/sand and a more even looking final product. Just another idea!
I thought it was weird that you didn't just remove the original top to the table, but it actually blended super nice after you painted it. I'm obsessed with the outcome 😍
If you take the saw dust from whatever your sanding and mix it with a wood glue like tight bond or we it makes a better wood filler it will take stain like the rest of the table
You spent the first 5 minutes of a 10-minute a D.I.Y. video talking about your feelings!? Can't you put that stuff at the END? I lost interest in watching the rest because I knew it would just be long, drawn-out explanations on stuff I don't care about. I just wanted to see the project! ☹️
I cannot believe all the negative comments. I'd like to see all the people with their 2 cent comments make a how to video from start to finish. What a bunch of jelous haters!
Use tightbond wood glue and invest in 5 or 6 clamps and you eliminate the need for screws and the holes left behind. Poly is nice but generals finishes arm r seal is a fantastic finish. Lastly a pre stain conditioner helps get rid of a lot of the blotcyhness
It turned out nice! 1 suggestion for your next staining project- invest in a can of wood conditioner prior to staining- it helps the wood absorb the stain evenly- especially important for soft wood like pine. Totally worth it- the can will last a long time.
That kraft glue will not hold. Use construction adhesive and wood clamps while screwing down. Turn upside down for weight instead.of stacking stuff. Good idea overall but lumber is terrible high right now and would cost less to buy a table without tile.
I just got a tile top table off marketplace with a bench and chairs. I was initially going to repaint new colors and maybe paint the tiles... but now I like this idea. Idk what to do! Ugh. You’re making my decision harder.
BAM 24 thank you! I decided on the same thing. Now waiting for payday to get the wood and rest of the supplies I don’t have. Was going to start cleaning it and putting the Krud Kutter on it in the meantime. Can’t wait to get started!!!!! Thank you for your feedback, having someone with the same opinion helps make the decision easier
On the dining room Table was was the size of the board for it to hangover also how thick was the board you bought for the project you did a good job we need a new table and I like your design
I love the end result of the table! I have watched it so many times. I am still trying to figure out how does one find out how much ply wood they would need? Do you measure L + W of the original table?
I like what you did with this table. Great job. I have this same style table and I have been trying to find a way to revamp mine. Thank you for sharing.
YOU make ABSOLUTELY beautiful things!! I accidentally ran into your page and I am SSSO{O GLAD I did!! But, now I see you haven't posted in over 2 yrs and my heart is broken!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider coming back.. even if it's 1 upload a month!!! I've subscribed anyway and I'm hoping and praying you will come back!!! PLEASE COME BACK... WE NEED YOU DESPERATELY!!
YOU ARE NOT CRAZY! Stop gaslighting yourself for your passions. It’s totally rad, and if you’re selling them then you’re making profit and videos AND not holding the tables in your house. You. Are. FINE!
Super cute!! I have an old dining room table that needs a make over!! It is currently sitting in pieces in the garage as we don't have room for it where we are now but we are going to build a new house soon and it will fit there. I am SO going to do this! Thanks for sharing!!
Firstly, I am NOT a jealous hater as it is nice to see a person being creative, However! A bit of constructive criticism, I personally would have used screws on the underside or if not, create sawdust of the same wood and mix with a shalac or wood glue but use plenty of sawdust to mix into a thick paste and use it as a filler then sand and stain, the screws would not be so conspicuous as using an ordinary wood filler cos the sawdust would stain the same as the rest of the wood, as it is it looks like what it is, planks screwed to an old table, DO NOT USE ORDINARY FILLER, it spoils the appearance and spoils the ship for a pennies worth of tar
My husband and just bought an old oak table from the seventies for 50 bucks plus 20 for our friends to deliver. Its oblong and only seats 8 but I want to try what you did to make it for 10 people. Love your outcome makes me feel like I can at least try
I know that this video is 3 years old, but I get it! I too have a dining table problem 😬. It’s ok 👌 Glad to know I’m not the only one. The process is so fun and the after Is so satisfying!!
