DIY Dollarstore Gesso using Cornstarch 

Recipe starts at 10:05 minutes so skip all the explanation if you just want the recipe!

1/4 cup cornstarch, 1/4 cup white glue, add water as you see it, three parts white paint.

I will try this cuz i dont want to pay a lot of money for gesso, especially cuz im just starying to play with it. YOU shouldnt have to apologize this is your channel. I hope this works or im coming back lol JK😜

It is labor intensive along with camera positioning & any editing etc.. All I can think is there are people who have nothing better to do but leave rude/unnecessary/unprofessional/unwanted/unhelpful comments. These people scroll just to troll & spread their hateful words. Yes it seems for some it’s too easy to sit behind a computer/tablet/phone & spew their evils. Why?! I don’t know.. if I don’t agree with anything on a video, I simply move along, unless I can add something useful. Hi Janelle, hope you are thawing out up there. You shouldn't have to apologise for everything, I think your fingernails are beautiful. Mine get just a bit long and then start splitting, my hands always washing something or another all the time. Looking forward to seeing your clear gesso recipe, gesso is expensive. I like the video using cornstarch. I had three recipes and I started out with 8oz of water so it took more of cornstarch and glue to make it work. Wish I had found yours first. Thanks you explained it well.

I got elmers school, basi carpenters yellow and a big bottle of tacky glue. The baby powder at the dollar store is cornstarch. Basic grocery store cornstarch has no perfume. I think the binder is whats important

Im trying to make a neutral white with uv light. The cornstarch barely has a glo but white is the goal titanium absorbs under uv and dulls out dark violet

What are the different things you use gesso for?

I made this and then I realized that the oil paint dried much sooner on the gesso, so where does the problem come from?

On the paint, does it matter if it's Matt or Gloss? You can get that cheep paint in either Finnish.

Does anyone else have the issue with the paper crinkling or did I mess this recipe up??

It would to be good to be more specific about gesso going”bad” because some don’t know what that would be. I thought it might mean mouldy, go runny, go lumpy, change colour, or ? Some recipes include alcohol to kill bacteria might cause it to get overgrown with bacteria.

It's better to add not enough water than too much. Edit I have regular and clear gesso. Do you have a diy for a clear gesso?

I’ve been watching a lot of D.I.Y. videos on here lately.. lol A super nice gentleman Clive5Art has a recipe for gesso that uses calcium caltrate that is totally usable for selling expensive paintings. Just thought I’d pass his information/channel along to you because he has numerous videos that have been so helpful to me. Also I think you are very beautiful! this is a good tip and a simple process and there was no need to fast forward your mixing with a audio making it look and sound like a tom and jerry cartoon. It would have been professional and to the point at normal speed without that comic effect audio background

this is meant a an inquiry not a criticism but yourdiy gesso videos have really complicated the gesso thing for me, i was under the impression that the purpose of gesso was just to seal the canvas so it didn't absorb the paint but in your videos you talk about different consistencies of gesso and when looking online i see there are a ton of different types and prices of gesso, can you qualify/clarify what the different types of gesso are for and when you would want to choose one type over another? BTW, in reference to youtube comments, you know that old saying "those that can't do, teach", the same basic idea applies to negative youtube comments, well that and the fact that they know they can get away with it without having to worry about getting smacked upside the head!!!
