DIY Drum Noise/Vibration Isolation Platform (The "Noodle Riser") - Better Than Tennis Balls!

So many people asked about it, so made a video! Here's how I made my drum "Noodle Riser" so I could practice electronic drums in an apartment without disturbing my neighbors.
It absorbs vibration (and some sound) and allowed me to practice quiet to moderately loud. I used a combination of foam mats, wood, rugs, and pool noodles!

I’m going to try this. I just got a new e drum kit and got my first complaint today. I’m thinking of using a memory foam mattress topper instead of the pool noodles. Do you think it will work just as well? Please let me know what you think.

I'm curious -- how thick are the pool noodles (2.5" or 3.5") and how many did you end up buying for this? I tend to think that compared to tennis balls, pool noodles would get squashed under the weight of a person, so I'm curious how they are holding up. Is there something else that is holding up the top MDF board? I see several blue semi-star shaped pieces at the corners and in the middle. Is that what's preventing the pool noodles from getting squashed?

How does it sound from the floor below? I have an ekit I’d like to be able to practice on but my tennis ball riser seems to not absorb enough of the vibrations

Hello! Thanks for commenting. Well, I’ll put it this way - it was a really old grumpy couple and they would broom the ceiling when we walked down the hallway, but never knew that I was a drummer. They did mention that someone was “working out” sometimes, but since they couldn’t figure out I was a drummer snd it wasn’t the most annoying part to them - this set up must hold up pretty good.

Just wondering if you glued the noodles ? And did you just place them on the corner or throughout the riser ?

I duct taped them. I basically made an “8”, so I went around the edges and then a line down the middle. The leftover pieces I had I put in the middle area. If you DM me I can send a picture (doesn’t let me send it here).

Hello! Here's a link to the type of mats I bought. I think you would probably need 6, but measure them and your own space and see. Hope this helps! www.wesellmats.com/25mm-martial-arts-mats/?color=Black&gclid=Cj0KCQiAgomBBhDXARIsAFNyUqMXJj2P_g88ExP3gWicOu2ukPQ8b7V1FO3TJSUhlFPmWwCiudXSW6QaApsZEALw_wcB

I'm afraid that the price of this platform is getting closer to the price of roland noise eaters)

Hey, thanks for making me aware of these! Haven't heard of them before but seem decent. I wonder if they really work. Might need 2 of them too depending on your kit..

This kind of platform ls WAY more effective than Roland noise eaters...so if it costs the same it' s a win situation...

Do you just rise the chair higher when you play? Since the kit is higher up

Yes. Either use the same mats for the height, or build some kind of platform.
