I love your pumpkins. I made pumpkins years ago, but didn't do them on the bias, I will definitely give that a try. I have a couple of tips for you: 1) if you use quilt thread for the hand gathering part, you will only need to do 1 row 2) if you make your gathering stitches longer, the hole will gather up tighter, I know that doesn't sound right, but it works. Love the fabric you used for your pumpkin. Its only July, but it's never to early to make fall stuff, so I will go through my fabric stash, and make a pumpkin (or several). Thank You for sharing your Time, and Talent with all of us. I'm glad I found you 🎃.

A nice touch to these cute pumpkins might be to take some ribbed fabric ribbon (a thin ribbon) tie it around the stem and use your scissors to curl them. Thus making the tendrils seen on pumpkins in the pumpkin patch.

Great project !! I've made several. You can also use the fabric felt itself to make little green tendrils around the stem. Looks more realistic than ribbon. Just roll the felt same as the stem is done and cut little thin strips..they sort of curl on their own.

Hi I noticed that u got a lot of negative comments about how complicated the pumpkins are, and I just wanted to say the fact that u responded very politely makes u a better person than half of the people I know. I personally would have told them that they didn’t have to say anything and they’re wasting everyone’s time. Anyway super cool ima try this tonight.

Great tutorial Aneka! Could you please tell me if there would be a problem with not cutting the fabric on the bias? I have fabric that would not look good if it was cut that way because it has mini pumpkins on it and it would make it look crooked. Thank you for all your great information and inspiration!
@MadetoSew
@MadetoSew 3 года назад
Hi Sharon, the bias will allow the fabric to have a bit of stretch making the pumpkin have a smoother, neater finish. You may find that they aren't as smooth cutting them on the straight of grain. Let me know how you get on, it sounds lovely. Aneka x

Why not just do the gathering stitches for top and bottom at the same time? Gather one end, stuff it, then gather the top..rather than hand sewing the top part.
@MadetoSew
@MadetoSew 6 лет назад
Hi there, of course you could do this. If I remember correctly we did this to start with and then for some reason starting hand sewing the top. I can't quite remember why we changed to hand sewing it? It may have been the greater control once the pumpkin is stuffed. But please feel free to give it a go. Sorry that I can't quite remember why I didn't do this in the tutorial. Aneka :-))
@brrjohnson8131
@brrjohnson8131 6 лет назад
Glace Bay Girl, thank you for this comment. It seems obvious to me to sew the sides, baste the top & bottom for gathering, then begin to gather & stuff. I'd probably divide the sections into an odd number rather than halves & quarters etc.

@MadetoSew
@MadetoSew 3 года назад
Did you have the right stitch length? If the length is too short they will be too tight to pull through, or if you have stitched backwards at either end you wont be able to pull them. Another thing would be if at any point your second row of stitching crossed over the 1st row?

So i followed this tutorial very well and my pumpkin came out beautiful however your sizing is wrong your medium it actually very small if we fallow the instructions on your website they'll come out even smaller. So i'd fix it and say the 7x14 is the small instead.
@MadetoSew
@MadetoSew 4 года назад
Thanks for sharing. Of course it depends on the size you personally want your pumpkin to be. :-)) I have a medium pumpkin here (the fabric was quilted and I use it as a pin cushion, so stuffed very firmly), so it may be smaller than the original design, it measure 5" across. Glad you have been able to play with the pattern sizing to make what you want! :-)) Aneka

This seemed more complicated than it needed to be, informative. I just found it overwhelming and i craft a fair bit, maybe its just a pinch too much info at once. I also found that using a sewing machine for the gathered stitches wasted a lot of thread and wasnt pleased by that. I appreciate the tutorial though, I've tweaked the method so it works for me and have now made 3 pumpkins! I would also suggest for those who have lots of small pieces of scrap fabric, this is a great way to use them up as stuffing! Thanks for sharing ✌

I was thinking the same thing. All this for a fabric pumpkin. I say this because I usually do a running stitch with my hand to create a circle for my pumpkin, but I start out with a circle piece of fabric instead of a square. They don't come out the best of the best so maybe this is a more professional approach lol! Anyway this lady is obviously a sweetheart because she is handling the criticism very well. Bless her for taking the time out to explain.

@@MadetoSew I love all the details. Your pumpkins look so much better and more professionally made than most of the pumpkins that are made from other tutorials!

Thios is over complicating a simple thing. Cut out a rectangle 7"x14". so that took 6 mins to explain. Or cut an oblong but the width must be i/2 the length...like oblongs generally are?

As I was watching this I thought this is really a little to much for a pumpkin!! I have made many fabric pumpkins and it has never been this complicated and confusing! And mine are much more beautiful!! I think I will just stick to my design!!!

@anna saenz or @made to sew can u plz tell me how to make pumpkin in big size like 2 to 3 feet ?? @made to sew u did last part with neddle the outer shape..but how it can be done in large size pumpkin ?
@MadetoSew
@MadetoSew 5 лет назад
sidra iftikhar it will be hard to get that intent at the top and bottom of the shape. I have seen methods where they just gather the fabric at the top and bottom instead and this looks like the texture on the pumpkin skin. Maybe try this? Aneka :-))
