I made 2 windshields for my Esbit cooker with some thin aluminium sheeting and used some fire resistant cord (40cm not 20!!) for stove door seals from Bertrams (Feuerfeste Glaskordel €8.49 from OBI) to make a small alcohol burner. Both work really well and I will field test them soon!

This is great! I love how polished the whole set up is. Everything fits really well together and I would have assumed it was originally sold like that.

Excellent idea! I made the windshield using a used beer can right away. But I made the windshield a little bit shorter so they sit comfortably inside the stove bottom between the two short walls on the horizontal side. Also I used a smaller tin which is shorter in height so that it fits in the stove as well when closed! Doesn't take as much acohol (around 15ml) but enough to boil 500ml water in normal conditions and doesn't take any extra space!

Excellent video! Thank you so much for all the info. What a pleasure, to watch a video, where the exact descriptions of the products used are given, in so much detail. Seeing the fireproof wick/door seal rope close up as well as the name and product description on the packaging was really helpful. Keep up the great work!

1. Great ideas and implemented with great craftsmanship. 2. I don't speak English fluently, so I have a lot of fun with the German insoles 3.

Yes, have my own arrangement with the fire rope alcohol burner but with one of the thin metal wind shield/pot stands you can get. Had no idea you could get thin aluminium sheets from art type shops, some of that would make an ideal additional wind shield for windy days. Tin foil, even the thick stuff gets damaged and deteriorates fairly quickly. If I'm using Esbitt I just use the lid from the alcohol burner tin to put it on.

What also works is the fiberglass roof insulation but than you need to make some construction to keep it in. Either jamming it between two tins or a piece of kitchen strainer metal.

Thanks! It's 9cm and only cost €1.99! We have just spotted today that someone is now cheekily selling my hack with the exact same fan grill and Esbit cooker on Amazon!
