I'm having trouble finding fabric that isn't white on the non-print side. I'm considering doing a double layer napkin because the wrong sides of the fabric I have tends to be ugly.
@TheSewingRoomChannel
@TheSewingRoomChannel Год назад
Hi Cari. The best way to sew it is to bring front sides together, and stitch a 1/4" seam on 4 sides. Make sure you leave a small opening on one edge so that you can turn it front side out. Then close the opening, and stitch close to the edge on all 4 sides. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍

When you sew double sided napkins how do you keep the edges from curling after a couple washes?
@TheSewingRoomChannel
@TheSewingRoomChannel 10 месяцев назад
Hi Sheila. I would pre-wash the fabric before cutting it. Do a zigzag stitch on the raw edges before putting it in the washer/dryer. Also make sure your stitches are at least 2.5 or 3.0. Hope this helps. Glad you liked the fabric napkin tutorial. Thanks for watching💗and happy sewing😍

Will any kind of cotton fabric do? or do you look for a particular kind (thicker, thinner, linen, etc).
@TheSewingRoomChannel
@TheSewingRoomChannel 2 года назад
I usually do this with quilting fabric, but you can do it with other types of fabric. I recommend that you keep "like" fabrics together. You can use old denim jeans and create a larger piece of fabric to make clothing. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍

@@TheSewingRoomChannel thank you for your response. I did go ahead and use some flannel that I had, Christmas theme. Regular cotton on the front. I just thought it would be something softer for when actually wiping hands and mouth.

I just finished making about 50 cocktail napkins in a variety of bright tropical prints. They came out beautiful. I cut them about 11"x11" and finished size was about 10.25" square. The client asked that I trim corners prior to hemming raw edges to reduce bulk and she wanted a very narrow hem of about 5mm. Pressing is everything when making these. I recommend protecting your fingertips somehow to avoid burns. On my machine, the top thread stitching is nicer than the bobbin side so I stitch from the right side of the fabric which makes getting that straight edge stitch even harder. Thanks for your take on making napkins. A local fabric shop near me also has a helpful tutorial on their website. www.pickingdaisiesinslo.com
