I agree. Andy at BoatworksToday is one hell of a guy. Very patient and particular with his work. You can tell he’s made his share of mistakes and learned from it. Loving how your project is coming. Good job bud!👍

Cool. Roller tipping isn't hard. Just have to watch someone do it a few times before you try. They will explain as they paint. To thin your paint as long as your not painting the boat white. Use 1/2 ounce of marine grade penetrol per court of paint. It just helps it flow out better when your rolling it out. A brief explanation of roller tipping. If you are right handed you start and move in a certain direction so I will explain for right handed people. Standing behind your boat at the transom as it is flipped over your right handed so start on the right side of the boat and start at the bow of the boat. Roll out about a 3 foot section with a foam roller. No nap at all. Next get a 3 inch foam brush or a 2 1/2 foam brush. A small container like a red solo cup with just a little bit of paint in it. Wet about 1/4 inch of the foam brush in paint that you have in the red solo cup. Now drag the edge of the brush on the side lip of the cup to remove some of the excess paint on your brush. Just like you would if you were painting your house. This is called priming your brush. It helps you maintain a wet edge in your paint. So the dry brush doesn't cause chatter or orange peel as your tipping out the paint. Now as far as tipping goes what your doing is starting with the brush just a little past the center of your body so a little to the left. In one light motion light pressure. Drag the paint brush using just the tip of the brush towards your right. Keep your arm and paint brush in a straight line. Like your trying to paint a straight stripe on the boat. As your arm extends to the right almost as far as it will go you start to lift the brush off the surface gradually when you have stretched your right hand as far as it will go the paint brush should have been lifted off the surface all done in one fluid motion. The idea behind it is as you lift the brush off towards the end of your out stretched arm you have help blend the paint without leaving brush strokes in the paint. It just fades off. Now you just keep going start at the left side of your body and brush to the right as your slightly lifting the tip of the brush off the surface towards the end of your reach. You just don't alow your brush to be on the surface when you are at the end of your brush stroke so it doesn't leave hard lines or brush marks in your paint. Its really really simple it just sounds complicated. Next. You have to keep the foam brush a little wet but not loaded with paint. As your brushing the paint out the brush will get over loaded with paint just clean some of it off on the edge of your red solo cup and continue on. So you start at the bow. You brush to the right take a step to your left and brush to your right. Take another step left and brush to the right. Same thing on the transom when you get to it roll it on start at the right hand side of the transom brush to the right and then step to the left. When the transom is done you have the left side of the boat to do. Start at the transom. Brush right and then move left and you will finish at the bow. All the time maintains a wet edge in your paint so to speak so that it all flows evenly into the wet edge of the paint. Try it some time.

Great job. Enjoy your vids. I too am working on a skiff project. Although because I’m also a nurse I had to put on hold. Hope to get back to vids on it. 🙂

Looking good! I've started sanding a bass boat, prepping for paint. I fully agree, very time consuming, and tedious!! Foor the flooring, I'm thinking of using EVA faux flooring, cheap version of seadeck.

I got the offbrand foam stuff on my big skiff and had it on my old bass boat the stuff is awesome. Obviously didnt come out as nice as if a cnc cut it but the stuff is so nice on your feet and back.

Is 10oz fiberglass good for the bottom of the hull or is there something better? Building a flat bottom boat for large ponds.
@hotactioncustoms7008
@hotactioncustoms7008 4 года назад
Your going to want to go more and definitely use some kind of either biaxel or woven roven. I think when this hull was layed up it was with layer of 2oz CSM a layer of 24oz woven roven and a layer of 2oz CSM in that order.

Is that dark grey or whisper grey?
@hotactioncustoms7008
@hotactioncustoms7008 4 года назад
I would consider it a dark grey. I think it's called medium grey. I painted a boat Battleship grey and you cant really tell the difference between the battleship and medium grey.
