Many photographers look back with nostalgia to the process of printing film negatives in the wet darkroom. In this interesting and compelling lecture and demo, Evan Parker reveals how to bring that love of process and technique into today’s digital darkroom. He shares how printing with archival inks on a variety of substrates can be creative extensions of your photographic work that can open doors to new ways of realizing projects. He also discusses creative aspects of printing workflow, and how these play into creating terrific prints. He will simplify the printing process with things you can do in your studio to help color accuracy, accurate image reproduction, and more.

I liked it. I learned stuff and enjoyed the more philosophical observations.

What kind of printer and profiles does sebastia salgado use for his black and white prints? If I recall, he said it took him about a year to get his photos and prints right when he switched over to digital so the prints would equal his earlier film negatives that he shot with. He says that his digital prints exceed the quality of the medium format film negatives he use to shoot with. He uses a Canon EOS 1D last i read.

Nice presentation. I'll respectfully disagree with the suggestion to seek out 3000 kelvin bulbs though. Homes are lit by natural daylight, supplemented mostly by CFL or LED bulbs these days. Incandescent (tungsten) is being phased out by law. Color temperature for these types of bulbs is all over the map, but generally they run cooler than tungsten. Bulbs closer to 5000K give me much better "repeatability" across unknown environments.

I think that consistency was more the point than the color temp. The temp of the evaluating light source will very much depend on what light your print will be in when it's on the wall.

A good presentation, I'd also recommend profiling your monitor, not just calibrating it

4:52 joke's on you! My local printer converts everything to sRGB/jpeg before sending it to the driver in spite of rocking an Epson P line printer..
