Love that Swag portaband table. I first heard about them from Jody over on welding tips and tricks years ago.

It's a life saver of a tool. SWAG has some other great stuff that I'd like to get in the future.

Nice job. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one of these next time I'm at the scrap yard.

@@TheMikeRybak looks good, one thing I would've done was to drill out a couple of holes on the bottom for better fire breathing

I made a similar set up about 10 years ago, but I added a coupler on one side to accept the bottom of a trailer jack that had a bbq screen welded to it. Had swivel and height adjustment with the jack. I also built a tall hangman pole to attach a block and tackle to hook a huge dutch oven on same bottom mount same swivel and height adjustable. Awesome video and good for showing others what can be done.

All those options are what I want to add into the next version. I've been building a new shop for the past 2 years it seems like lol. Hopefully I'll have some new videos in 2023! Stay tuned and thank you very much for the comment

@Rybak what project ever gets completed on time Lol. If you rebuild it I'd suggest using a second tank bottom mounted on the opposite side of your grill with a jack to act as a lid like a "name brand" bbq. You can make bread or pizza with the thick steel and a little coals.

Actually the hole comes in handy to drain rain and also let’s air in

Totally Mark! I ended up drilling a drain hole in the direct center. I just didn't show it. Great catch! Hope you enjoyed the video. What would you like me to build next?

How'd you figure out the angles for the legs to be connected to the base?
@boilermatt
@boilermatt 2 года назад
Nice, love these and looking at buying one locally. What diameter is this one? Available to me is 30", 37" & 41"
@TheMikeRybak
@TheMikeRybak 2 года назад
I believe it was just at 30 inches. I'd snag all of those tanks make the one you want and sell the rest. You'll be able to move them fast. Thanks for watching and reaching out!
@TheMikeRybak
@TheMikeRybak 2 года назад
Sorry if I read this wrong. If you are buying one, 30 inches is great for my family we comfortably fit 8 -10 people around the 30 inch one I built.

I have some of those tanks. What angle did you cut legs at? Good video.
@TheMikeRybak
@TheMikeRybak 10 месяцев назад
Thank you! Unfortunately I dont remember. I believe I just did it by eye/using the framing square contraption as it sat on my bench, it gave me a parallel line to the top of the tank. The potion that is welded to the tank didnt have and angle. The only angle was on the "foot" portion that touches the ground.
@ricardocontreras8861
@ricardocontreras8861 3 года назад
This might be a silly question, but what angle(s) did you cut the legs?
@TheMikeRybak
@TheMikeRybak 3 года назад
Unfortunately, I dont remember. The end of the pipe that contacts the bottom of the pit is 90 degrees. To find the angle that contacts the ground, I took two framing squares and clamped them together and struck a line at the height I wanted. The framing squares looked like a C. I adjusted the saw to cut the angle based on the line I drew. Hopefully that helps.

Was the bag on the drill just to protect it from water spilling on it?
@TheMikeRybak
@TheMikeRybak 2 года назад
Correct, I didn't know what to expect and didn't want my old cordless drill to die if it got wet. Good catch, thanks for watching

I just built one of these from a big air compressor and used the end with the legs. I am going to cut the motor/compressor mount off the other end and make another. I saw you using a cardboard template. Was that to get even 3rds for the legs? Can you explain that a little? I didn't listen in math when they told me I would use it! ;o)
@TheMikeRybak
@TheMikeRybak 2 года назад
Correct the cardboard was just to get even spacing for the 3 legs. 360 degrees divided by 3. The edges of the cardboard are 120 degrees apart

wait what? you put the handles on the inside?
@TheMikeRybak
@TheMikeRybak 2 года назад
I did. I was going for a cleaner look on the profile of the pit. Whenever I set it up it never gets moved until the next day when its cold, personal choice. If I was to make them for other people I'd probably put the handles on the outside or in the traditional location. Where would you like to have handles on a pit this size? It weighs 70-80lbs roughly

@@TheMikeRybak prop should recommend against cutting a propane tank for your average joe, not everyone is smart enough to fill it and water it down. Iv had my same 200$ fire pit for last 3 years. Haven’t blown away and of rust. Put it away during winter and drill few holes in the bottom to less water drain and it’ll last long enough.

@@bigshlonggooo4332 That's why he filled it with water. And i think it is a good message to recycle something instead of just buying one new.
