How to build a DIY Steel Fire Pit. I welded this fire pit together from ⅛” steel plate and ⅛” square tube. It was my first time welding a full metal project and cutting this much steel at once. I learned a lot about metalworking and came out with a sweet portable DIY fire pit. It’s perfect for taking to tailgate or just a backyard firepit that won’t take up a permanent spot. #firepit #metalworking #welding

Exactly what I'm looking to build. Question: is there anything you can spray, coat, or imbue the metal with that would 1) protect it from the elements, and 2) still be food-safe (for searing steaks and such!)?

My entry level is a amico 160 stick/ tig. $150 and so far so good. Burn 3/32 7018’s and 1/16 6013’s and 3/32 309’s. Rarely use 1/8 as I don’t typically work with over 1/4” steel

I really dig this. It's so simple in the cuts but the final piece has a nice modern complexity to it. I'm very very interested in making something like this and actually have the equipment but am hesitant to pull the trigger not knowing how it might stand up to the elements. I'd love if it you'd post an end of summer instagram update to show how it held up...maybe? Cheers brad.

I build many fire pits and I do like yours for the simple design, one thing try not to use 1/4 inch round stock it will warp on you and will burn thru sooner than you think, use 3/8 round , 3/8 square or rebar for you fire grate , they will last much longer.

When welding the sides of the pit, does it matter if you weld on the inside or the outside? I’ve watched several videos and it is split down the middle - some weld on outside and some weld on inside. Does it matter or is it for looks?

Nice work as usual, vert stylish and modern looking fire pit. The way the legs are sort of an inverted shape of the bowl makes me wonder if it could be made in 2 pieces that nest somehow for storage. Not sure how but it would be cool. Also, the chop saw, was that a slow speed saw intended for a metal blade or a high speed saw intended for an abrasive wheel? I know April had tried that blade on a saw meant for abrasive wheels and had a problem. I have an abrasive saw that i would LOVE to swap to a metal blade.

Dang it!! Very impressive! Do a project without welding! Using screws nuts and bolts and a drill and an angle grinder. I sure could use some tips on joints. (Not weed). I realised with profiles u can make holes and put metal rods through. Or even wood. A bookshelf or shoestand maybe? Or why not a workbench or an A frame as a roof for a workshelter, portable maybe?
