In this video I show how I built the folding rotatable dipole for 10-20 meter. This would be a great antenna for the RV and camping.
Each side of the folding tube is about 99", add the 102" whips to each side.

I was thinking this morning it had been a while since I saw a Chuck video. Rotating dipoles are a great antenna choice.

@@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures In May I passed my Extra and purchased my first HF radio...a FTDX-10. Being new to HF I am learning a lot from RU-vid gurus (you included!) about HF operation. Figuring out antennas is my current task. So many options and ideas. Thanks so much for your content! KJ7JXO

I love that build. love that battery powered rotary tool. I got one off your video before. I totally love it. fits attachments from outher rotary tools as well. with any of them metal joints I find a hose clamp works great. if need more tight take that rotary tool and cut a slot in the metal and hose clamp will hold it in place. I would put choke balun 1:1 right at antenna. even if it's just a snap ferrite on coax. remember a dipole at 1/2 wave length high is 72 ohm appx so don't stress too much about SWR. under 2:1 get on the air hit the tune button radio. have fun. with less than 1/2 wave length high it will still work. just more NVIS . you may want that. but too high can make it worse. hard to do at 20 meters. you could threat in a woof river coil at each end and can make a shorty forty . 73's

Yea I like the rotary tool also and may need to use it to slot the ends a little more for a tighter clamp. I did run the ABR coax with the beads as a choke. Thanks for the comment!

I thought the way you use a tape measure was to run it up a fiberglass mast, clip an antenna lead to it and talk to people :)

Great idea I was thinking about something like this and use folding tent poles but the ones I have are anodized which I think will interfere with RF transmission. Jim KI7SSO

Just started playing with collapsible whips. The folding poles will be more repeatable, SWR meter less necessary for every deployment.

Right Lee, my finds for lengths may be different for others depending on their ground, but close!

Interesting concept. Certainly cost effective with EMT arms, but I wonder about tuning and efficiency. Did you feed it with a 1:1 balun and coax or something else? How about tuning it? Newbies usually don't know much about how to tune an antenna like this. What kind of on the air results did you get? Does an ATU help performance? What would be really interesting is to see how well the version 2 antenna works portable. Maybe you could do another video on that? 73

When I built the original with emt I just cut it until it tuned where I wanted it. Yes I used a choke at the feed line, just beads on the coax. On air performance was great and a tuner would help if a little off. I will probably do some type of portable video in the future. Thanks for the comment!

I’ve been toying with the idea of doing one for the 2m & 70cm. Still collecting the materials to do so.
@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures
@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures 2 месяца назад
2m and 70cm you could use aluminum tent poles to make lighter and smaller. The spans should work with the smaller poles.
