It's really quality stuff, each bit designed/drafted for perfection ru-vid.comUgkx5WQ3WP9ku9goJTCwWiteQ2BfbhKsH_vl Chairs that are comfortable as heck, but would also probably last generations and all sorts of abuse, not that I'm going to put it through that. Everything about this chair is pleasant, the only thing I'd make a note of is that the low back may be an issue for some. For me, it's comfy and sits just right.

Looks sick. I recommend using a vegetable tanned leather on the second. Maybe a 4-5 oz hide. Looks sick. The curves remind me of a Barcelona chair.

So just a tip. when punching holes into leather you should have a piece of 1/4 inch dense rubber it will help a whole lot!

It's probably pretty nice having the seat and back designed the way you've designed them. That way whenever they get worn down, you can replace them much more easily in comparison to some other more permanent designs. The frame of the chair is likely to last longer in comparison to the leather, so this design makes the most sense. Good job!

I built a similar chair 20 years ago. That seats two people. My design is adjustable to conform from a chair to a recliner.

waxing your lacing chisel (leather tool for punching the stitching holes) will help keep it from getting stuck. I use natural beeswax. great looking chair man. love your projects.

You can try to sharpen the stitching punch to avoid the punch getting stuck. When you punch the hole, you can also try to use a ruler and press down the leather before taking the punch out. :D

Great Video. The material used for outdoors is called sling fabric. Just google outdoor sling fabric. You need this type of fabric to hold your weight and hold up to the sun.

Hi Mike, I am glad that you started your first project with leather. I have a suggestion as you mentioned that you want to make one more chair. The "one needle method" that you learned is not secure when you are making big pieces. The method reduces the durability of the stitching, which might be difficult as it's a chair. We usually use two needles and one thread to make the stitching more durable as even it comes off, the two pieces (in your case, two sides) of leather won't easily come apart.

Love the chair, Mike! It's so sleek! Acetone will remove the goo left from the tape. That tape is useful, but here where I am in the high humidity, it almost always leaves goo.

Great work! I cheat and use a laser cutter for most of my hand-sewn leather projects. You can also use it to engrave the leather and cut veneer or walnut thinstock.

I think this is my favorite build yet. I will definitely give this chair a try but I'll probably use a waxed canvas or a different material that isn't leather. It looks beautiful with leather though.

I was thinking that as well, or more of a material that is used for beach chairs normally. That way sitting in it after a dip in the pool or lots of wear and tear on the beach it wont deteriorate as fast. But I must say, your design is definitely the best looking option by far, the leatherwork is aweosme!

For the leather, usually if you wet it first it will soften enough that you can go through it, so try that next time maybe

That patina on the leather looks awesome, the off cuts would make great pulls for a set of drawers. If your thinking of getting into leather work (or blacksmithing, custom paint, knife making, machine work or any other hands on metal work) you should really check out Paul Cox from Brooklyn.
