DIY quick mold for casting. Takes only a few minutes to mix, sets in about 20 minutes at room temperature. Sets in the freezer in minutes.
MIX:
7 gr. Unflavored Gelatine
40 gr. Glycerin
stir until incorporated.
Add:
40 gr. water
Mix until lumps are gone. Warm water works well here. Melt on LOW heat.
Add Food Color if desired.
Pour into your mold. Re-usable. Simply melt it on low, pour again, over and over.

I have a question does glycerin preserve the gelatin for a long duration? And second does it change the property of the gelatin? I'm looking for a preservative for my ballistic gel so it can be stored unrefrigerated. Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks.
@GEOsustainable
@GEOsustainable 4 года назад
You know this is going to end with...try it, and let us know. Glycerin is a humectant (holds water), used in so many applications, including those soft bake cookies. The same is true for gelatin, glycerin softens it and makes it flexible. Glycerin will in time, work out, but that takes years. I buy it by the gallon for my bioplastics (protein and starch backbone polymers). Glycerin has no bactericidal efficacy, and can even promote bacterial growth if not used with alcohol, as I used in the WHO formula video I posted. I suggest that you search for alternative humectants if you plan to not refrigerate your ballistic gel for more than 3 hours. One trick I use to retard bacteria is Thymol (thyme herb) and is what is in Listerine to kill bacteria. Hope this helps, if not, email me and we can hammer on this together.

Hi, does the glycerine need to be 100% pure? I see some are sold as 99.5% which are cheaper and wonder if one could get away with that one. Thx

Yes, 99.5% is fine. That is what I use. I use Glycerine made for live stock (cow and horse).

I’m wondering why I would want a sticky mold. Or is the point that, unlike the usual silicon molds, this material can be melted down and recast?
@GEOsustainable
@GEOsustainable 5 лет назад
It is a food safe mold that kids can have fun with. It can be remelted, yes. You can adjust the Glycerine to reduce the 'stickiness', or add cornstarch coating, lot's of options to to try. Enjoy experimenting!
@whowhy9108
@whowhy9108 3 года назад
Id say the stickiness of the mould is not what one is after, but considering this is primarily a cheaper alternative, stickiness can just be ignored :)

I am looking for a negative for casting. I want the mass to be completely non-toxic (fumes) - preferably edible :) And it would be good to be reusable.Until I found this movie. I plan to make a figure from plasticine / clay Monster Clay type. I will probably make such a wax plasticine myself, because there are recipes for it. If I am not satisfied with the effect, I will buy Degas (cheaper version of plasticine than Monster Clay). The casting, on the other hand, will be plaster at the end. Could it be any gelatin?. Apparently Agar Agar binds more strongly than gelatin. Did you check it?
@GEOsustainable
@GEOsustainable 3 года назад
I did not check it. I bought some, but the Gelatine was handy. Agar has a higher melt temperature, but everything else should be the same. Depending on your application, the mold should be reusable. Even if not, you can use this over and over again for your negatives.

@GEOsustainable

It depends on the thickness, and the hardness you want. The factors that will be variable are the thickness and the amount of Glycerin. For hardness, I demonstrate a food packaging version here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6WNHoKeFQUU.html

i was thinking toy gummie bears ...i'd like to use them as inclusions for slimes. people are using resin pieces to add as a topper to your slime creation, & they use foam & clay pieces, i want to make little squishy pieces that way they're soft & pliable or bendable like the slimes as you mash & squeeze them. plus if you're into slimes then you're probably also into squishies. the squishy toys are harder & expensive to DIY, unlike the slimes, and so its thrilling to handmake squishies, especially the clear ones.
