linseed oil warning! Oily rags need to be put back in an empty paint container and closed up with water and some dish soap when done, they will catch on fire spontaneously and burn stuff down, ask me how I know....any natural oil does this when air drying if there is enough rags the heat will catch fire ...yeahhhhh

It looks really nice. I’m planning to build a patio cover like yours, but my only doubt is the post in front of the door. Is it bother you?
@TheDuvallHomestead
@TheDuvallHomestead Год назад
No it hasn’t at all… I honestly haven’t noticed it I think because it’s not directly in front of the door it’s kind of to the side

@TheDuvallHomestead you guys can add some flashing to extend from the house exterior wall to just over the porch cover roof, shaped like a "7". You don't even need to go under the siding like with "z" flashing! Just surface mount and caulk it!

Mine is not very sturdy at all. What will you recommended? 10’x30’ posts are 4x6 beams are 2x8” and rafters are 2x6. I do not know how to upload the picture?

how did you stop rain coming in the gap between the house and the cover?
@TheDuvallHomestead
@TheDuvallHomestead Год назад
Good question - we didn’t. John says there is something you can buy to do this but you have to install it as you’re putting the roof in, not after. So he didn’t want to go back and do that. So yes, some rain gets through. Honestly it’s only really noticeable in the pouring rain since it’s a pretty small gap to begin with. We just push our shoes out closer to the middle and they stay dry.

It looks great! Does it wobble in the wind? I’m seeing some videos saying that you have to bury the posts in the ground and cover with concrete. I would prefer to attach to the slab like you did.
@TheDuvallHomestead

No, it does not wobble in the wind. It is very sturdy!

Did you have footers under the slab? Or have you had any issues without them?
@TheDuvallHomestead
@TheDuvallHomestead Год назад
No, no concrete footers. Just drilled into the concrete slab which was 3 inches and no issues

Are you happy with the roofing material ?
@TheDuvallHomestead
@TheDuvallHomestead Год назад
Yes we are. It has provided protection in the snow and rain, and we loved it in the hot summer sun too.

Um looks good except for the gap between the house and patio roof .
@TheDuvallHomestead
@TheDuvallHomestead 3 месяца назад
That was intentional to build it to code. We bought roofing flashing to cover the gap so we have no water in between

How much did this cost?
@TheDuvallHomestead
@TheDuvallHomestead 9 месяцев назад
The only cost of this patio cover was the materials and plans, which were very cheap (assuming you have most the tools already). The cheapest covers we found on Amazon were still a couple hundred dollars, so we’d rather spend that money on a permanent structure. Costco has some that go up to $2,000 or more.
@peterstergios
@peterstergios 8 месяцев назад
I was wondering that too…what did the materials and plans cost total? I have all the tools, but this is about the size I want to build so I wondered how much it cost for the supplies
@TheDuvallHomestead
@TheDuvallHomestead 8 месяцев назад
@@peterstergios here’s an estimate: Plans: $10 Materials: $600
@peterstergios

@@TheDuvallHomestead oh wow! That’s actually a lot cheaper than I was expecting for something of that quality.. thanks!

Awkward support post near the door…not saying the post isn’t necessary, but I would’ve had it off center
@alanc.8167

Definitely a wierd spot to leave a post
@AJ-xh5ew
@AJ-xh5ew 6 месяцев назад
Its because they put it in the center of the patio cover, and the patio cover is built to the size or the existing concrete slab they had
@TheDuvallHomestead

it doesn't impact our ability to open the door. We are used to it and don't notice it. if it was somewhere else we wouldn't have been able to fit the couch.
