Once you get the Mason jars for 50 dollars/month you cannot beat this!!! I just ordered from Daily Harvest and I love the smoothies but I honestly cannot afford it. Thank so much for this great video and I cannot wait to get the book.
I have been looking for these jars here in the UK and they sell out really fast. Thanks for sharing your tips Jen. I cannot wait to start doing smoothie packs once I get my jar situation sorted.
i love what you do making the smoothies and saving money and simplicity. You could manufacture a screw-on lid to their jars and special smoothies vitamiser so you only have to screw the attachment onto the jar and make the smoothies in the jar itself. If you decides to make it just share a million of the profits with me.
Got so excited to start prepping a ton of smoothie now after watching your videos. I do have a question. What liquids do you use in the smoothies when you are blending them? And how can i make smoothies for the kiddos with lots of veggies without them being green? I dont mind the green but the kids almost dies when they are green. Have a lovely day and please make more videos! Love them!
Hey Malin! We use water, coconut water, almond milk, coconut milk, and oat milk in our smoothies. A lot of times it just depends on your personal preference. As far as making a green smoothie that's not green... you could try using cauliflower, beets, or carrots to get some good veggies in those smoothies. You can find lots of great recipes using these ingredients on our blog. We also love the method of disguising green smoothies in opaque cups. They'll never know they're drinking green goodness!
Having frozen smoothie packs or making double batches of our favorite plant-based recipes and freezing the other half is one of our favorite ways of ensuring we always have healthy recipes on hand!🙂
Hey MsJanie28! You should be able to store them in the freezer indefinitely. Make sure you are only adding the solid ingredients to your smoothie prep jars and not the liquid base. And I wouldn't recommend leaving them in the freezer for months and months... it won't hurt the mason jars at all but your beautifully prepped fruits + greens may get freezer burn. Happy blending! 😊
would you consider looking at a blender with the mason jar adapter and review the product for us? i think tribes and foster have some. then we just blend and go. i would like to know if those blender attachments are worth it.
This is great! I’m trying to get back on track with my health after having my son 2 years ago! This seems so much easier than my ziplock bag process, pre-toddler! I have a strawberry allergy. What do you suggest I use in its place?
Hi, i wanted to ask mason jars if put them in freezer will they hold? and not crack? i am trying to find a way to store 30 days worth of smoothie or shakes, then grab 1 everyday, if it work like that i will only need to refill them each month which would safe alot of time
If someone is trying to remineralize, it's counterproductive. That oxalic acid binds to mag, cal, & iron. No bueno for anyone wanting to keep those in the body.
Hi Tom! Great idea - to let your smoothie pack defrost a bit - at least overnight. You can also add more liquid to offset the thickness of the frozen ingredients.
Hey Jen,,I was watching your video on 7 day smoothie challenge--you were making 36 smoothies,,,could you give me the measurments of each ingrdients,,,also do you add Chua seeds or flaxseed or anything else like that to your smoothies, love your videos
Jen used our 7-Day Green Smoothie Challenge shopping list (which makes 7 green smoothie recipes using only 7 ingredients!). You can sign up for the challenge and get the recipe list here: simplegreensmoothies.com/challenge
Hey Girl, Hey! So I'm new this. My question is, how many smoothies do you drink a day and is that the only thing you have during the 7 days? When the 7 days is up how do you go about eating solid food?
Hi Natasia, it sounds like you're asking about doing a juice cleanse. I'd recommend discussing that with a dietician or nutritionist. Are there special mason jars for freezer? I am afraid the glass will chatter. I cut up fresh fruit and freeze on snack size (with measuring guides) to use weekly, but would prefer to have more prepped. Thanks.
Hi Brenda! Check out this helpful website for tips on selecting freezer-safe mason jars. masonjars.com/can-you-freeze-mason-jars-at-a-glance-tips-for-freezing-your-food.html
Great question! You can use swiss chard, collards, green cabbage, romaine, arugula - basically any leafy green you can find! If you ever need any other suggestions for great substitutions, you can refer to our Rawkstar Substitution Guide from our blog. It def comes in handy! Click here ---> simplegreensmoothies.com/substitution-guide
Hi Tricia, pineapple is a great substitute for mango because it has a similar sweetness level. And yes -- a lot of our smoothie recipes result in a green-colored smoothie. Even when they don't turn out green though, we proudly call them green smoothies because we LOVE the power of plants to make us feel our best! 😉
Yes, the grocery list that was provided in this video was enough to make 30 green smoothies! So, def enough to have 1 smoothie per day. You can absolutely freeze glass mason jars, but you can also make smoothie packs using ziploc bags, too! It saves more freezer space with baggies vs. mason jars.
Hi Melinda! Reach out to us via email on the website link here: simplegreensmoothies.com/contact! I need your email address to check it out and I know you may not want to post it here for everyone to see! Once I receive your email address, I'll check on the status of the challenge for you! 💚
@@SimpleGreenSmoothies Thanks! I just sent the email via your site. I couldn't remember what email I used on my original request but gave you my main email.
You could, for sure. I do it right before I blend because I don't want it to stick to the glass (since I reuse it to drink the smoothie out of). Yet if you don't mind a lil' protein powder along the end, it would be a win.
I'm sorry to hear that. Don't get discouraged, whatever you can do to incorporate more plants into your diet, is a step in the right direction towards feeling your best and fueling your passions!
This is great, I wish in Canada fruits and veggies were cheaper. I paid 7$ Canadian dollars for one avocado! 18$ for frozen berries!Being on a strict budget this is hard. All the things that you got are twice as much were I live. It’s highway robbery really. I feel like the groceries stores here feel like they change what ever they feel like. It’s frustrating when I see other countries with cheaper fruits and vegetables they should be affordable for everyone.
This was SUPER helpful but you didn't show what you do to actually MAKE the smoothies. When it is frozen does that make it more difficult to blend? How long will it last once it is blended?
When you're making smoothie packs, like we did in this video, simply empty the contents from your pack into your blender, add your liquid base (usually 1 cup of water, coconut water or plant-based milk), plus any dry ingredients (nuts, protein powders, etc) and blend! I always recommend drinking your smoothie right away once blended, as the nutrients start to breakdown after about 15 minutes. However, you can refrigerate it for a few hours before drinking, too. I would just be sure to give it a good shake, as ingredients will start to separate.
Is it safe to use frozen store-bought broccoli (or other veg) directly in the smoothie? I've seen in some posts that frozen veggies can contain bacteria.
Hey Janice, we love using frozen fruits and veggies in our smoothies. It's convenient and easy, especially when we're pressed for time! I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Frozen spinach isn’t cooked first... And definitely could have nasty bacteria from the processing plant or where they were farmed. Other veg which is chopped first like carrots, broccoli, I really don’t know
I REALLY enjoyed this video! But sheesh, the entire process just to get the free guidebook was so lengthy and almost annoying. They sent me 3 welcome emails within 5 minutes...that sent me to a paid app before I could even view the recipes for the smoothies. Geez.
Thank you so much for your feedback! We're always working to make our welcome emails as enjoyable and educational for our community as possible. We'll make sure and take a closer look.
That's too bad.😕 But even without a Costco-type store where you are, you can still use some of these tips and tricks to prep delicious + healthy smoothies!
This is great but also deceptive and that is my one issue with videos like this. I understand that it's too show how simple and affordable it CAN be but it only works if you do it in a way that would for everyone. (I.e. shop at stores without memberships and add in the cost of the jars.) For someone that has the jars, blender and and membership ... This is very budget friendly.. Otherwise you have to add in the membership to Costco, the cost of the jars, cost of a blender if you don't have one, plus the supplies for the liquid base and it's no longer budget friendly.
you can take the same concept and apply them at different stores and just use ziplock bags. or you can blend them up and pour in ice trays and store them that way. I have a very cheap blender that I use that i got for $10 that works well even though I do have a ninja blender.
@@flukytuberr4193 LOL Clearly you didn't actually read what I said. And I don't know what kind of life you live but I don't have "operating costs" for everything in my life. Lol
@@yahushahamashiachiswarlike Thx! I actually have a great blender, I've had it for years. It was a wedding gift. I don't prep, I just make my smoothie every morning. I only get a couple weeks worth cause the prices at my grocery are not at all comparable and I unfortunately don't even have a Sam's or Costco near me. I think the only real tip here was to get your fruit from Costco. Lol Based on the prices, if I could I would. My doctor made me switch to liquids so really just looking for ways to save money. I'm the only one drinking them, so there's no sense in spending that much for just me.
@@rikkihurt you don’t need jars for this and if you’re looking at smoothie recipes then having a blender is assumed(how else you going to make a smoothie). And you don’t have to use Costco. Sales at local groceries works just fine.
@@poppyab9746 LOL! Got me there... I use to freeze carrot & celery juice daily in those real small mason jars. I always would be sure to fill them all the way up to get all the air up. Maybe they didn't break because they were so small? Thanks for the heads up!
Where is this fruit grown? They did a study in which most organic protein powders tested for lead and were actually worse for you than non-organic powders. Why? Because much of the main ingredients are imported from China and made in the US. Apparently all the fruit and vegetables (pea powder) has lead in it. China still uses leaded gasoline and it's in the soil. Look for powder ingredients and where it's from, not manufactured. This includes frozen or fresh fruits. Example; Much of Driscoll's fresh fruit is grown and imported from Mexico. They have a chart on their website that tells where the berries are grown. Interesting. Shop wisely.
Don’t pick ‘the best of the best’, pick the ones that look a little ugly to actually ‘not waste so much fruit’. Because every fruit you touch and put back gets worse and then nobody is gonna buy it, bam, waste
*Costco advert* "7day recipe book advert* By the time you prep all, everything you bought frozen will thaw out and freezing it back can be health hazzard. 🙄🙄🙄
It should be safe as long as you're working in a clean environment, free of anything that will cross contaminate your fruits and veggies and not too much time passes. :)
Hi Karen, that's definitely true. In most of our smoothies we use a 1 cup of greens : 1.5 cups of fruits ratio. However, feel free to change it up and swap the measurements. For lower sugar smoothies, we always recommend this method, too. Use 1.5 cups of greens : 1 cup of fruits instead.
@@SimpleGreenSmoothies It's the enormous Costco quantities that is the problem. Costco great for families, but it's not necessarily the best option for everyone.
Are you going to sell us on Costco some more? I'm literally one person shopping for myself in an apartment with a normal to smaller sized fridge. Not only is it not realistic for me to buy pounds of fresh produce at once (I can barely consume veggies before they go bad), but supporting Costco over smaller, locally based stores hurts your community overall in the long run. This is a thinly veiled Costco ad, unless you came out and said Costco paid you and I missed it, especially when you called out competitors by name. Yikes.
I’m single and it worked just fine for me. Great actually but i used ziplock bags to save on space. I love Costco for certain things like this but i also shop at other local stores. Drink a smoothie and stop being negative!
