Nice job! A friend of mine who built a hearse like this chose to make the wheels cosmetic instead of functional. The base is a rectangular folding table. The "cabin" sits atop the table. It has a lip that hides the edges of the table and prevents it from sliding around. The wheels attach to the sides, hiding the legs of the table. The table itself is unmodified, so it's available to function as a table the other 11 months of the year.

Heavy furniture vinyl at Walmart in the sewing section for the glass. A couple large wire spools from light company would do for axles.

For the glass you can use window insulation kits. They have clear plastic that tapes in place. Then warm air shrinks it to get rid of wrinkles. Light weight and fairly cheap.

Winter window plastic would work using hair dryer. Pretty clear and easy to use.

Ive used those curtains before but i used a steamer to get rid of the lines if that helps!

I have had a great time watching this project come together. It's a shame about the wheels not supporting the carriage, though. Looking at the picture, I think a great addition to the hearse would be a bit of skirting. Like the foam trim you put around the top, but around the bottom instead. It'd add detail, make the bottom look deeper, and it'd be a good way to help hide and disguise the necessary supports.

hope your arm heals up soon. loved the hearse - when it is seen in it's proper night time setting it looked awesome. the creepy vignette at the start was really spooky...seeing that hand slowly closing the coffin lid was quite eerie

Totally cool, your attention to detail is phenomenal.And even more fun is your creativity. I personally like the shower curtains well enough, they give the hearse that worn-out, shabby look. In that vein, I'd have used creepy cloth gauze for the curtains to make them look old & tattered, And you absolutely cannot be a hearse driver w/out a top hat, tho' good on her for wearing a mask, you don't want to be giving dead people COVID! Such fun!
@alankeith7866

That turned out wicked cool!!! True, the clear shower curtains were a back up plan, but the illusion is awesome. Excellent work!!!

One thing I’ve learned to make a square shape more rigid, is you reinforce it with an X shape, from corner to corner - as opposed to parallel or perpendicular braces. Try this next time and you’ll be surprised at how strong this is.

Instead of hanging the vinyl shower curtains, put them on a simple frame. The tension will help remove the wrinkles and make them clearer.

Very nice! the biggest detail I enjoy is that you have two horses. I did have one horse skeleton many years ago and it always bugged me that I really needed two to make the carriage complete.

This looks good. I made one just like this. 6ft by 10ft by 4ft But I use pink installation foam board for the entire thing (instead of wood). This makes it super light, water proof and it comes apart in about 10 to 15 pieces like stacking blocks for easy storage. It looks just like yours but I did not use plastic or glass. I just left it open because of all the lights I use in my yard I did not want any reflections obscuring the corpse inside. unfortunately I only have one skeleton horse, but I used that same skeleton driver with cape and top hat,

I love it all. I live in Amish country and could prolly find some wheels or a base with wheels, who knows. Fate will decide. But great idea for the wheel build though. Would love to see the coffin hand or what happens in there a bit longer.

That looks great! Eduardo, I wish you were conveniently close to where I live. There's a charity around the corner from my house which puts on a haunted house every year (they leave most of it visible, but it's only open during the Halloween season), but they also happen to have a real antique horse-drawn hearse on display. I think you'd have a good time there.
@colemyst
@colemyst Год назад
The hearse came out great. Decorating it will be lots of fun. Suggestions - Craigslist sometimes has plexiglass windows for free. I've seen some that are 60 inches wide. Might not be perfect but if it's free you could make it work. Seen the outdoor brass porch lanterns on CL free too. An outdoor cushion(s) for the driver would help with the look. It's the time of year people start throwing them out and you could paint it or them a nice blood red with florescent trim. Good work.

I think if you just layer the wheels a little thicker with more wood/wood glue and replace the spokes with wood or metal they will work! I think right now they are just too thin of a sheet. You could probably just use scraps and glue them to the inside since it won’t be seen and doesn’t need to look like a smooth circle if that makes sense. Love the build tho it looks so good!!!!!
