making a list for myself, but anyone can use it hehe -nail cutter -nail file(s) -cuticle pusher -cuticle cutter -cuticle oil(coconut oil/olive oil) -buffing block -acetone(100%) -primer -base coat -top coat -gel polish -UV lamp -rubbing alcohol/hand sanitizer -nail clips -cotton balls thats all mentioned in the video, but would you recommend nail tips as well? like for people who have short nails and difficulty growing them.
Amazing! Great list. I don’t personally use tips with gel polish but if you have short nails I would recommend using a builder gel to strengthen them and let them grow out a bit. You can paint gel polish over this. If you want to add length right away polygel is great too and beginner friendly (relatively speaking) :)
Totally agree! I love how cheap they are, I have been using mine for years! Although a recent comment just made me realize I could use them on my feet too 🤦🏽♀️😂 I will definitely be doing that now.
Hi, I love your video! I am a true beginner, and I’m wondering if you have any pointers for avoiding getting polish on the skin around my nail? That’s always my struggle. I haven’t tried gel at home yet, but I’m predicting having lifting problems because I basically always get polish beyond the nail bed on the sides, especially when using my non-dominant hand🙃 For someone like me, do you think gel or dip would be better/easier? Thanks for all the info!!
Thank you! Hmm my best advice is to start by staying far away from your cuticle and side walls. A manicure will ALWAYS look better with a slight gap versus polish on the skin/cuticle. The more you practice staying away from it the more you will get the hang of how close you can actually go with out touching. With dip you still have to paint on the base layer and in my opinion it’s harder to see where you have painted it because it’s clear where as with gel you can see the color of the main polish which is a better guide. Also last tip is to rest your non dominant hand on a stable surface and anchor it with your pinky while paint to help with shakiness (I am thinking of making a video about this soon!)
Could you make a video doing gelish and acrilic? I when to a salón & they did on my gelish but I would like to learn how to add acrilic, the nalis last me 1 month. Thanks for your tips.
I unfortunately don’t do acrylics at home so I wouldn’t be the best person to teach you that. Gelish is a brand of gel nail polish so for that tutorial you can check out my DIY Gel Nails video. Hope this helps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ohmENjCKBQQ.html
Good question, honestly I am not sure as I have not used nail hardener. Usually just these few layers of gel help to harden my nails enough to help them grow so I’m thinking you may not need it? Hope this helps :)
@@CreateYourSpace_. thank you for the quick response! I’m going out to buy everything today . I will try first without the hardener and hope it’s enough, my nails are very brittle and I don’t have access to a salon right now .
Wow! Everything I hit for a link is not available for delivery in my area! I have never seen that from Amazon before! Its ok because I'm a nail tech and I know I can get what I need, but for ppl that can't this is good to know huh?
Hey! Any time I bought a gel set off of Amazon, they didn’t dry very well and barely lasted. Is it because the lamps were bad or it was bad polish cause it was a random brand?
Hmm good question! It could honestly be so many reasons. If it wasn't left in the lamp long enough it may not have cured properly (I always do 60 seconds). If you didn't prep your nail the right way the polish would not adhere to your nail plate correctly which would cause lifting. I have another video on my channel on how to apply gel polish at home and have it last 4 weeks, I think that may help the longevity of your polish. Try it out and let me know what you think! Here is the link to that video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ohmENjCKBQQ.html
There are so many lamps out there and honestly it’s hard to find an answer, however if you buy CND polish for example they will also sell a lamp that they claim is the perfect cure for that polish and the directions will tell you how many seconds to cure it in that specific lamp. My specific lamp is 36 watts I believe!
Thank you! Because the gel is so runny you can just wipe it away with a lint free wipe. If you want it to be extra clean I would use alcohol and not acetone :)
Yea sure! I actually have a link to a starter kit in my DIY gel nails video description. That link will take you to the Canadian amazon so you can purchase it directly from there. Hope that helps!
Good question! I don’t notice yellowing from gel polish like I do from regular nail polish. My nails generally stay whiteish (to be fair my nails have never been stark white to begin with but no yellowing from gel). Hope this helps :)
Hello, i am a true beginner when it comes to gel polish. Can you please guide me if i can use my kiko milano top & base coat with gel polish or i would have to purchase gel top coat & gel base coat?
Hello, if kiko milano is just regular nail varnish then it won't work with gel nail polish. You will need to purchase a gel base coat and a gel top coat. If you want to use a regular nail polish with gel the only way to do it is what is called a gelly sandwich using gel base coat then regular nail polish then a gel top coat but there is a method to it - I have a video on my channel call gelly sandwich nails :)
