I would add some gravel at the bottom so water can be released from the pipe. great video very jealous!
@SurprizedDaily

very little if any water will get into the pipes....with the coupler on top where the rope's tied through to stretch the net, it'd have to be a sideways driving rain, which I doubt much water would ever find it's way in, if any at all....I need to build me a range like that here!

Just one idea. To help prevent some of that flexing you said you don't love, tie off the top of the pipes individually with tension to a nearby tree or ground stakes that are screwed in further away. Use tie wire to hold more tension. It will pull the pipes apart and prevent that flex, and also give you more stability if you get hit with a windstorm.

Secret to driving those pipes down... duct tape a hose to the top end, get on top of the ladder next to the pipe and turn the water on. Use the pipe as a water drill. I watched my neighbor dig a 50' deep well using pvc. Amazing!

Matt, a couple of suggestions 1. you need to put something on the threads of the tee so it doesn't cut the rope with wind, it could be a piece off hose. 2. if the rope is nylon it will grow and shrink greatly due to humidity, polyester or poly propylene not is affected as much. Great job!

Matt, you may need to add a second anchor to each pole to prevent them from collapsing inward. Loop a second rope through the t fitting at the top and down to the anchor top keep the weight of the net and the repetitive impacts from pulling the poles together. Having the second anchors further away from the pole base would provide greater resistance against said collapse.
@NaySeld
@NaySeld 4 года назад
You can add wire or rope to the top of the polls and bring that wire/rope to a tree to straighten out the polls for more security

You may want to add an eyelet at the top or 3/4 up the poles to attach multiple support lines for the wind. Great back yard ! Oh, citronella lamps or tiki torches in the corners may help with the bugs such as sand fleas, skeeters and horse flies.

The large net it is great. Being able to practice in the shade is huge in the mid-atlantic heat. If you got severe thunderstorms coming through, they can have some very stiff winds. Keep an eye on your project. You may want to drop the net.

Cool new setup. You can also measure the distance between the bottom of the poles and tie a rope that length to the top of your nets Then use the ground anchors to pull the poles apart from the tops. That will eliminate the flexing inward of the poles. But awesome net brother

Glad that you and your family safely made it to your new home. I hope that net works for you. Years ago(15) I made my own net set up in my back yard. Started out buying retail products and after the netting on the second one broke and golf balls were flying through the cedar pickets of my fence I investigated a better solution. I ended up locating a net maker for a commercial fishing company in I believe Washington State who made me a custom net to my specifications. I figured the marine nets were more durable in the Texas heat and humidity. I beat 200 balls a day in that net for 10 years without a tear. Tuck this info away for later. Also, quit practicing so much. Your swing is looking too good.

I would put a couple of long bolts though the bottom portion of the poles that are in the cement to give added stability. And several inches of pea grave in the bottom of the hole for drainage.l As for water gettin in the pole you could put a couple of weep hole for an water to drain out. Also use a wood block on threaded pipe when hammering to protect the threads. You have a very nice set up Sir.

You should counter the weight of the nets and cross forces by tethering cables on opposing sides of the net from the pole to the ground. You can also tether additional cables via triangulation to keep the poles perfectly straight up. The pole on the left appear to be leaning, eventually that pole will give way.

Hey Matt, Inspired by your video, I am also building my backyard practice area similar to yours. My net is going to be 10 feet wide by 10 feet tall. But I was wondering how much extra hanging net did you have or recommend? I will NOT be able to Bungie it on the sides. so it will hang loosely, I'll secure the top corners to ensure it does not slide around like a curtain, and I may need to weight it down a little but just wondering if you had any suggestions as I am sure you probably went through a similar thought process. Any insight would be helpful. FYI Someone told be to fill the pipe with sand and that would avoid any flex. sound like a clever thought.

Add support to your posts so you don’t have that bending. Get two more auger things that you bought and run a tight rope from top of posts to the ground like 4 or 5 feet to the right and left of each post and taught the rope. Just an idea for the bending not to get worse. Thanks for the great videos!!!

try moving your screw in tie down points further away and loop/knot at the top of the poles to help straighten them out. Living in Northern California I wish had the space for a large net like that.
