In this tutorial, I'll show you how to turn your greeting cards into a simple album. This is great way to archive cards from your loved ones instead of tossing them into a box (or the trash!)
Materials:
• Greeting cards
• Thread (craft, cotton or embroidery)
Tools:
• Thumbtack or awl
• Scissors
• Sewing needle
• Pen

After my mother died I collected together all the cards she had sent me over the years, for birthdays, Christmas etc. The loving messages she had written in them were such a comfort to me and I bound them into a book. But my book was quite clumsy compared to your Coptic bound book. I still find it difficult to throw cards with loving messages from friends and family away. Recovering recently from an operation for cancer all the lovely cards and messages (many from unexpected sources) were so heart-warming and encouraging - I'll make a Coptic-bound book of them. Thank you for your videos - I enjoy them all.

Oh my goodness, I think I can do this project right now with the cards I sent my mom that were sent back to me a year ago after she died.. along with the birthday and Christmas cards my grandmother has sent. I'll keep this in my mind for future reference as well.. :D

What if there's a variation, and they're not all greeting cards? Some are just one page letters and the others are in envelopes that were also personalized.

Unfortunately with this binding you can't stitch onto single sheets, but you could put the letter in an envelope and stitch that in. Just as long as there is a folded paper to sew through, it should work for this type of binding.

I have done it were I have single page items or very small cards were i fold a narrow length of card in half and then stick my item to the card on one side to create a folded spine and then treat that like a signature. I hope that makes sense

Is there a way to add a hard cover (I think case book binding it's called?) to this? I saw you have a coptic stitch hard cover book tutorial, but I was hoping to do a complete hard cover, with a hard spine. How do you recommend doing that? Could I do a kettle stitch (I think that's the correct term) to cards, and treat each card as a signature, then create the hard cover book that way following your DIY Hardcover Book tutorial? Or could I use this coptic stitch and then add a hardcover?? Or is the coptic stitch too thick to approach it in a way you would a case binding? Hope this all makes sense. I basically want to combine this tutorial with your DIY Harcover Book tutorial. I have a lot of wedding cards and I want something very elegant, so I feel binding the cards in a complete hard cover book would look so great. Thanks!

I have a whole lot of cards from a funeral that I would love to keep because of the memories shared. But leaving them exposed without a cover seems detrimental to the cards. Is there a way to bind them with a cover?

Hey Jennifer! I wanted to tell you how much this tutorial helped me. I'd been looking for ways to put old greeting cards together, but was having trouble with some of the methods available and not happy with them. Then I stumbled onto your video and knew this was the way I want to create my greeting card books. Is there a way to take this "book" and give it a front and back cover? I even thought of using the cover/spine of an old hardback book. In my case the cards are all the same size.

After you have finished the card album, is there any way to add new cards into it? Or would you just have to start a new one?

You should be able to add more cards onto it by stitching them onto the existing stitches, if that makes sense.

I recently got new lights, so I'm happy to read this! The main thing is the sunlight from windows, the lights fill in the rest and I try to bounce their light off my white walls.

You could just sew it on much like the cards already on there. Make a knot inside and then loop under the stitches to sew it on, if that makes sense.

You technically could use this method to make a coptic stitch text block for a hard cover case book if you don't have glue, couldn't you?

Technically you could. Glue adds strength to the spine and end pages in a case book, so I would worry it might not be as strong. If you try it, let me know how it goes!

Hi! You could try finding a type of archival clear tape to put on the folds. I would think that could prevent the binding holes from ripping. Maybe test a piece of construction paper to see. If you try this, let me know how it goes! Thanks for the love ;)
