It's not a bad idea to use it shortly after putting it together. You learn where you need the extra reinforcement on your foam. Looks aren't as important as functionality! It still looks awesome! I see a pelican in my future. Thanks...hubby is thrilled!
I just bought a used 1740 case that has custom foam cut out for a Faro Arm setup. Got it for only 95 dollars and now I just need to get new foam and set it up for a couple rifles and shotgun.
A tip that worked for me... When you had your foam plucked and laying on the cardboard, it was pretty easy to see that it was losing shape and also that some pieces of foam came apart. Once I had my foam cut to the shapes I needed, I placed my bottom layer into the case and then I lined the walls of the case with newspaper, letting it hang over the edges. Then my main foam went in and the extra newspaper covered the lid of the case and hung over the sides. Then I sprayed the foam. Having the foam tight inside the case for spraying kept its shape perfectly and there were absolutely no splits in the pick and pluck foam. I left the foam in the case for two days before taking the newspaper out.
Excellent work. The only Pelican case experience I have is one for the size of a digital camera, circa 2003. You are right about the initial fear of 'messing it up'. Once you pluck a few it's like playing with a 3-d puzzle maybe. Good job on the re-enforcing of the non-compliant columns.
I think I’m going to buy this without the foam and then place my guns into individual long gun padded cases. End to end barrels next to buttstocks. Should be able to hold 5 guns. Anyone else have experience with this before I drop 300-400 buck?
just bought 2 of the pelican 3220 rifle cases and a 4 gun pistol case on amazon prime . got a lot of toys i gotta move so these will be great for shipping across 3000km 😊
I needed to fit a Radio Test Set into a iM 2975 and the pick and pluck was separating in spots I didn't want it to, as well as I wanted to make the different layers adhere to each other. So, I used 3M super 77 adhesive to make everything stay put. However, the high-stress areas still want to pull apart. I think I may give this a try.
I'm doing the same, but the top layer out of Kaizen foam. Give the surfaces a wipe with alcohol and glue the Kaizen to the pick and pluck. It'll hold it together and look clean
Thank you! I don't regret it but definitely make sure your guns are 100% set up the way you want them to be because I am like a little kid that just cant sit still when it comes to my guns, I am forever changing them up and its a pain in terms of already cut foam.
$525 for this case on Amazon and with different foam it’s $600, just bought a couple of these and 1660s and a transport 1780 that’s closer to $700 with foam and 1830 around $650.
Seriously no wonder why people are so lazy. All people do is ask other people what they suggest instead of doing your own research and trial and error and testing. See everyone wants the cheapest deal yet they want it just handed to them. You get what you pay for you want it cheap then guess what you are the rest pig and may have to try different cases but in the end you know what you have and it will be perfect for you. Instead of wanting the cheapest deal while being lazy and not doing any work plus complain when it’s expensive and cost to much so you don’t buy it. So you just end up wasting someone else’s valuable time. While you may not have any value in your own time and expect people to do the same that’s not the case and someone’s time can cost the most so stop whining and do your own leg work lazy millennial
Which optic is that on the rig closest to the hinges? Viper Vortex PST? 6x24 power 50mm? I see the Viper Vortex in the middle so im guessing you stuck with the same company for the 50mm? How do you like it vs the ACOG? I picked up a Pelican 1740 case because of this video. I already have a 1560 for all my handguns and needed one case for 3 of my rigs. 2 AR15s and an AR10. This video convinced me I can fit all 3 into one case with plenty of room to spare.
Correct, that was a Gen one 6-24 x 50mm. Love it as well as the ACOG, but comparing the two isn’t comparing apples to apples. They each have their intended purposes and strong suits.
Can you give me a measurement of what the lower left compartment's dimensions are? I like the idea of using that for magazines, ear protection, etc. I just got this case in the other week, but instead of 2 ARs along the bottom I'm going to cut out for an SMG on the bottom, AR like yours, Scar/AK platform above that, and then the pistols/magazines/etc.
Thats a great case set up you. You just passed an amazing idea over this way. Thanks. I need one for my guns and then another one for my Camera gear for my RU-vid channel. Thanks for the great tips and your awesome reviews. Cheers, Will
I'm thinking about getting the 0550. 6 inches longer AND taller as well as nearly twice as wide, with enough space for maybe 4 - 5 long guns or shotguns. It would be anchored into the trunk of a car or truck bed.
Sai Namuduri well as long as you’re ok with lack of portability then I say go for it! My case is as large as I would recommend for portability. It gets heavy fast and is already obnoxious at the range lol
@@4MRRanch yeah I mean for the range I'd be taking stuff out of the case and putting it in a rifle bag that doubles as a shooting mat anyways. But right now I'm doing mostly indoor and table shooting, hoping to get into the thousand-yard club in a couple years or so. Better to be prepared now haha
G Man it’ll be close. I can fit my Remington 700 chambered in .308. I would take measurements of your rifle and compare it to the inner dimensions of this container.
Rocco Borghetti maybe 4 at the most but that’s assuming you don’t have anything in the sides like lights or extended charging handles. I would say 3 would be safest. I cut it really close for space with my layout
