sophia laird I suggest manic panic with a mix of a good "white conditioner" (ALL natural) with manic panic it really depends on how many tines a week you wash it..I only wash my hair once a week (I do not have OILY hair) so it lasts me over a month.. I suggest manic panic (no chemicals, cheaper then this) only get it mixed up to a lilac color.. Blue manic panic is for ORQNGE hair.
I honestly can't believe how well this worked! I have never DIYed anything hair-wise and was so nervous, but it worked EXACTLY as you said! I had recently gone blonde balayage and within a day or two it was yellow. I longed for the soft, healthy blonde look and I didn't have it in me to go back to the salon again after hours already. I am so stoked about being able to touch this up on my own when it becomes brassy again. MAJOR thumbs up! I don't ever remember being so excited about my hair before! haha Thank you Thank you!
OMG I thought I was doomed to never be able to have nice blonde tones in my hair as I have VERY hard water! but I did this last night and I LOVE how it turned out... was worried my hair was too orangey for this method (that I'd need something blue based) but I figured I'd give it a shot and it's almost perfect now! I left it on between 10-15 minutes.... I'm going to do it again in a week or so and I think I'll be head over heels. Not to mention that you are basically deep conditioning your hair at the same time so now it's SO soft and smooth! Thank you for posting this video!!!
I have been searching RU-vid to find the right method to tone my hair and I'm so happy because you made this video and answered all of my questions!! And it's a 3 step process
Durring my search I came across this video and it seriously saved my hair life!! My hair was very brassy and toners didn't help much but this works amazing and it's so simple to do also healthier for hair. It really does feel more like a hair mask. Just wanted to say thanks so much for sharing this with us!! :)
I tried the lavander, It is dark because I think I could had used less, as I dont have lots of her like her, but it is ok becuse I know it will wash out. What I love is thst this hair dye doesnt make a mess and doesnt damage the metals in my bathroom (I have experience with other dye hair). It saved me 120 bucks at the salon, and it is the easiest for sure!!! Thatnk you for trying and letting us know your trick!
Omg you are seriously a genius, I would never think to do this for toning but now I will! I've used Wella toners a million times and they never work for me, so that's always frustrating because I feel like everyone else uses them! Thank you so much for this video :) xo
Thank you soon much for this video.. I used this method to tone my hair last night since I had an Ion Lavender lying around. my hair looks amazing! The Wella toners did nothing to my hair.
sophia laird I suggest manic panic with a mix of a good "white conditioner" (ALL natural) with manic panic it really depends on how many tines a week you wash it..I only wash my hair once a week (I do not have OILY hair) so it lasts me over a month.. I suggest manic panic (no chemicals, cheaper then this) mixed up to a lilac color, not too purple. Blue, manic panic is for ORANGE hair. Purple, is for brassy.
Thank you so much! I tried it a few months ago after watching your video and it totally worked. I did it again two days ago and used more lavender dye and left it on for a little longer and now I have some silver strands that I absolutely love!!! Once again, thanks!
I use manic panic purple haze instead because you use way less product and a jar of manic panic will last me probably a year or longer. I literally dip the tips of my brush and use a lot of conditioner till its lavender and it works amazing!
harley xene does it bleed? if you have highlights ALL lilac tints will bleed. You simply finger comb it onto the blonde-brassy areas. Use gloves it stains, and an old shirt. 😎
Been bored cooped up at home because of this pandemic and thought I'd watch some hair videos... so glad I found yours. I'm gonna order some today. Thanks for the video... and I'm subscribing.
I tried this a month ago and it turned my ends purple but toned the rest of my hair very well! Lol but I think I didn't use enough conditioner, so I'm gonna try it again 😊
That product is amazing and I love their hair dyes because my hair color looks rich and shiny, soft and lasts a long long time. I've spent 200 dollars to have my hair dyed and it wasn't near as nice as as this Sally's product! Love it.
This is great!! I've been using the Wella toners which are about $9 where I am in California, and it's frustrating when the tone fades so quickly and the product needs to be repurchased fairly often. I'm totally trying this next time. Plus I believe Ion is a cruelty free brand (not sure for 100% of their products though).
Awesome trick or best practice! I myself would just use the shimmer lights shampoo but this method is definitely most needed, seems like it would work better... I have waist length hair so it can get pricey, but I'm gonna totally try this...😉😄💁
I did try a version of this. Using purple dye and conditioner. But I added a bit of the ion grey as well. And it turned my hair from blonde to dark browny green... Definitely do a strand test!!!
I tried your method last night, and it was so easy and worked really well, thank you!!!! For me, I probably should have left it on a little longer, as my hair was more brassy than yours, so I will do that next time. Have you ever tried using the 'purple' shade instead of 'lavender' and just used a smaller ratio of dye to conditioner? Wondering if that would work equally well (as long as the final color that is mixed up is the same or, in my case, slightly darker purple to tone out more brassiness).
I'm not sure if it was just your camera lighting, but the conditioner you mixed in with your hair dye, if that was a yellow-tone conditioner, that may be a contributing factor to why your hair is going brassy faster. Any yellow-tone oils, conditioners, or shampoos(basically any hair products you use), will slowly turn your hair brassy if you're a blonde! If you're blonde and want to stay blonde, your best bet would be to get all white-toned products :) that OR purple pigmented products, like the hair dye!
It was actually green haha I just started using this green one and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. That's good to know for people out there who may be using yellow conditioners tho! I know they make yellow conditioners for people who want more warmth in their hair as well. ☺️
Hi I'm a new subscriber(: I just watched your other DIY hair coloring and I'm thinking of going for that same color. Since then have you not bleached/done anything to your hair besides tone? I'm new at this whole dying at home thing so I need some help thanks!
Love how the color turned out for you😍😍😍 Anyway, is it okay to use the purple toner all the way from the scalp? As in the roots aren't too brassy but would it change the color into ash like the ends??
I tried using Blue Food coloring mixed with White conditioner, but that didn't do much for my High Lifted orange roots. Do you think the Blue dye from ION would be more effective at cancelling out the orange tones?
Do you think this would work better than purple shampoo? I just got highlights like pretty heavy highlights and it's the first time it's ever been a little yellow by The Roots the rest of my hair is okay but it's mostly by the roots. Bought Lanza purple shampoo and it did nothing for the part that was brassy. And the part that actually looked good are now lavender :(
i just came across this video because my hair has an orange brassiness to it and i’m going on vacation next week and need to fix it. would the lavender be good or should i do more of a blue?
Thanks for your recommendation. so I did my hair bleached it be came orange color as I expected. as i told you i want platinum gray, more likely blue..Do you think I can use punky color "platinum toner" with conditioner or 20 developer? what color would you expected if stop here doing more bleaching it and get the toner now?
I used ION's Titanium Semi Permanent Dye(which is blue based) with 2 parts White Conditioner but it didn't do too much for my roots since they are too dark and I only left on for less than 5 minutes. However, the rest of my hair was toned really nicely. I'm sure that if I used a high lift on my roots then toned it for 20 minutes with the Titanium Dye, it would look pretty awesome. I will be doing that in a couple of weeks.
My hair is dark dark brown but I dye it blonde and I really need to redo my roots. Would this dye work without turning my hair orange? Or would it turn my dark brown hair purple instead of blonde like I want it to?
I've totally been meaning to comment back on this video to talk about my experience - basically, it worked AMAZINGLY. My hair was a little darker than hers and a little more on the brassy/orange side but let me tell you, MY HAIR HAD BARELY ANY OUNCE OF WARMTH IN IT. Ive tried everything! And nothing kept out the brassiness for long or even took the brassiness away. Its been a while and hair still looks great, not purple at all either! AMAZING!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!! LIFE CHANGER! MY stylist is even surprised, we've tried it all. trust me! :)
+MSABEAUTY X awesome!!! Finally! Lol I tried this too but I guess I left it longer on my ends (lighter) so they turned silvery/purplish lol It worked great tho but some parts are still brassy. Better than before tho lol I saw another video that you can use grey dye as well! I might try that next :)
Thanks for the video!! I was wondering if it would work on bleached hair? I just recently bleached it from brown and it had turned a yellowy brassy shade - Like really yellow. Should I tone it using this method? Anyone have any suggestions?
+Mel Smith This method works best on bleached hair haha if it's super light though it might turn purple so if you do it, just don't leave it on for too long. Or just add less of the dye. :)
It pulls orange because of the level. I have dark brown almost black hair naturally and I always use 30 vol when I bleach, it gets to the orange stage right away and then white on the next.
I need help!! I did this and my hair ended up becoming a much darker, muted blonde. It looks more like a dark brownish blonde where as before it was a more yellowy blonde that just needed some toner. Is there any way to reverse what the lavender color mixed with conditioner did to my hair?
it will start to fade after like 2 washes. if you only left it on for a bit, it shouldn't take long to die down. Also, anything that deposits color like a dye, is going to make the color slightly darker, as does most toners for brassy/orange hair.
Good to know! Thanks :)) I've washed it once with clarifying shampoo & also "chelated" it which helped get rid of the darkness and my blonde ended up being brighter and more toned than before. Thanks for your help!
I just tried this with the color Azure on my orange hair and it turned blue-ish green. I'm sad lol. It looks hella ugly now. I'm dye my hair back to brown
Yes you can totally use hair color for toners..& I use wella toners & they last 6-8 months until my next foil .. Geez I've never heard of them washing completely out of someone's hair.
So I tried this today and am a bit disappointed. The orange/yellow is gone, but now my blonde is basically is a light purple/gray and doesn't look natural. I would say you might want to add a disclaimer about the tone of blonde hair you already have, yours is a darker blonde so for you, it seemed to work. Maybe recommend a 3-to-1 ratio? Thank goodness it washes out!
xxlove2107xx i actually never used ion colors but i would say sky blue, if you want a quick fix to orange hair try the Revlon box dye in the shade dark ash blonde 60, thats what worked for me the best!
xxlove2107xx do not use blue! I made that mistake and got green hair. If you use too much your hair will be blue, if you use too little it will be green. Also, it's been a month and I still have trace amounts of green.
