These are hairpin table legs made from 1/2 inch hot rolled steel rod.
I made them for my sister who will be using them to make a table from a piece of soapstone.
The mill scale removal was done with plain vinegar. I soaked the legs for about 20 hours and then scrubbed them with a Scotch Bright pad.
They were powder coated at Superior Finish Powder Coating in Edmond, Oklahoma who did a great job.
Thanks for watching!

I wanted hairpin legs for my coffee table so I followed your instructions and ended up spending around $7,500 for the tools needed to make them. But not long after I found very similar hairpin legs on Amazon for $25 for a set of four. Damn you RU-vid!

Haha, got me chuckling pretty good on that one. Remember you can use that 7500 worth of tools for the next project too! Thanks for checking out the video!

Great job for sure. My background. Im a welder for a 1/4 century. For the last decade ive been putting up slabs of wood. I make from wood all the legs for my projects. I gotta say you went above and beyond showing the method you used to create an awesome set of legs. Not all legs are created equal. Lol. Good work for sure.

Hi great video, what do you think should be the minimum thickness of the metal peds? (The part with the holes)
@LastLegWoodworks
@LastLegWoodworks 3 года назад
Hello, thanks! Hard to say what the minimum would be. I think it would depend on the length of the leg and the weight of the table it was holding. Mine were 14 gauge which is just barely under 1/8 inch. I probably wouldn’t have used anything thinner. If the legs were going to be very short then maybe I could have. Also welding the 1/2 inch rod to a very thin plate would have been more challenging for my limited welding skills. It helped to have an 1/8 inch of steel to weld on. . Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@alonro

wow very nice you are a beast! Just got started doing some woodworking on and off a two years ago as a hobby and I would like to pair that with metal legs as well. Excuse my ignorance but why and what did you soak the legs in? Is that done for every metal piece? By the way liked and subscribed.
@LastLegWoodworks
@LastLegWoodworks 2 года назад
Thanks! I did that to remove the mill scale that is produced during the hot rolling process of making the steel rods. I later learned that cold rolled doesn't have this scale so its much easier to clean up. Thanks for watching!

Hello! Great video! Have a couple of questions for you and i apologize to you've already covered the answers to these but I was curious on what angle did you put your legs at on your jig before welding it to the plate in order to adequately support the weight of the table? And also I know you had mentioned that you were just making these for your sister but if someone wanted to purchase these from you or have you custom make a set of table legs like the ones here in the video what would you charge to do something like this? Again great job thanks for sharing! subscribed and following! Oh and I love the flip-flops!
@LastLegWoodworks
@LastLegWoodworks 2 года назад
5 degree angle. Unfortunately, I would have to charge too much for these as they took several hours. You can buy them online for pretty reasonable prices. These are easy for machines to make so they can be sold cheaply. Hand making them takes a lot more time. Thanks for watching!

Is the angle iron 1/4 x 1 1/2 and a threaded coupler for 1" pipe
@LastLegWoodworks
@LastLegWoodworks 4 года назад
The angle iron is 2 inches, but it wouldn't need that that size, that's just what I had on hand. Yes, the other pat is a coupler that has a 1 inch outer diameter. Thanks for watching!

I have a chaise lounge chair that sits way too low for me. I want to raise this chair about 13 inches, can you suggest what type of leg I should use please.
@LastLegWoodworks
@LastLegWoodworks Год назад
I suppose you could use a harpin leg, might depend on what the lounge chair is made of.

What was the diameter of that round metal piece there in the center 1 in inch and a half
@LastLegWoodworks

I think that is right. I believe it was a coupler for a 3/4 inch pipe. Thanks for checking it out!

Last Leg Woodworks that would be great!
@LastLegWoodworks
@LastLegWoodworks 4 года назад
@@Matt_Barbee Here you go. I used 1/2 inch round rod and I took the height that I wanted the leg to be and doubled it and ten added I think about 8 inches for the curve at the bottom. This left it a little long so I could trim it even. I believe I made the angle 5 degrees. Also, ask for cold rolled round rod at the steel yard and it wont have any of the mill scale on it like my hot rolled did. I didn't learn this until afterwards. Chuck up the cold rolled rod in a drill and spin it while holding some sandpaper on it and it cleans up great. Good luck! have fun! www.dropbox.com/s/niv9c6qhigrpeqh/hairpin%20plate.jpg?dl=0
