This is my DIY HEAVY BAG STAND:
* 3 6ft-7ft galvanized steel pipe (ends threaded)
* 2 90 Degree Malleable Elbows (galvanized)
* 2 Malleable Tee (galvanized)
* 4 2ft-3ft galvanized steel pipe
* 4 Pipe Caps (galvanized)
~
I believe the standard thickness or pipe width is 3/4 diameter or 1 inch diameter, home depot or your local hardware store should be able to help you assemble the necessary parts.
~
I've had this stand for 30+ years, it is extremely durable and can hold a ton of weight. The stand can be used to hang heavy bags, do gymnastics, even hang your laundry.

Hell yeah!!! For all the evils of the internet and social media, it is things like this video (and I must admit RU-vid in general), which redeem the internet from its lowly, dark place within my inner- judgement. Here I was, racking my brain, thinking about how to make this stand using heavy-duty metal warehouse shelving beams and anchoring to concrete- (massive overkill), when I turned on the venerable 'ol RU-vid, and found this gem. The best ideas are always the most simple. Thanks again!

Jesus Christ saved my life he can save yours to. No body is perfect except Jesus Christ. So he was the perfect sacrifice for the world and he became that sacrifice. So that we can be perfect in God’s eyes all we need to do is. Repent from our sinful wicked ways and surrender our life’s to him. Jesus Christ. Repent meaning acknowledge and forsake your sins. Know you have sinned and know you are not good in God’s eyes. Forsake meaning as in try your absolute best to not sin. We have to be clean and filled with the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ said we must be born again to enter The Kingdom of Heaven. God bless you all. I love you all may you all find Jesus Christ as your Lord Savior . God bless brothas and sisters ❤❤! Thank God ❤️

Just wanted to say this build is way worth the money. Have had mine up for a few weeks buying all my materials from lowes just as Jason described. Using a pipe wrench to really tighten down on it. I'm using a 100Ib century oversized heavy bag and this build works great I can practice low kicks and just about everything else besides a flush uppercut while training I can move around the bag somewhat as well to work on footwork. For those asking about price. My build with all the material came to right around the 280.00 mark. Hope this info helps anybody else searching. Preciate the info Jason helped out alot.

The threading prevents the pipes themselves from moving right? Built this without the threaded ends since they didn’t sell them like that, but the two long pipes on the side lean alot when using it. Just wanted to ask for confirmation before getting them threaded

My assumption is that having them threaded secures their position, thus giving them better stabilization.

Do you think this would work if it was 10ft in width? I want to put it in my back yard but i don't want it in the middle of it which takes up some of the walking space. I just don't know if making it so long in width, would weaken it in the middle. And also, do you think it would be more effective with the pipes into the ground with concrete, or on this stand with legs the way you have it? I wanted to do wooden beams at first, but then someone told me the weight of the bag would bend the wood in the middle and it would eventually break down. Awesome video!

Hey yall. I ended up building this, but i wanted to say that i made my three main lengths at 9'. I used my leg lengths at 5' and i only did this so my heavy bag would hang off the ground a few feet as i have a different style bag. My eye height is at 69" and my heavy bag with the hardware is 66 inches in length. So i got my total height, minus the "midpoint of the bag" which is just the total length of the bag divided by 2, so(9ft) 108" - 33" (half the bag height with hardware) = 75". So i can have the eyepoint at the bag range from 75" and below; which, it would cater to me @ 69" eye height. If i wanted to lower the eye height of the bag, i would just have to lower the bag another 6" inches for myself to use this at 6'2" but i wanted to build this so i could lower or raise the bag for people that are taller than 6'2" and people that are also shorter. With the 9' length people as tall as me or taller would love this setup. I've tested this @ 9' feet should be good @ 100 lb heavy bag and i can lower my heavy bag or raise it to cater to the different height of the athlete i am training. So thank you so much. I've done a little more research and at the top of the structure where the to 90's are: If you put a cross section from the top bar to the side bar at a 45 it would greatly increase the strength of this structure if you felt the need to reinforce it. Reinforcing these areas of the 90s elbows at the top and the standing pipe to the leg pipe where the mid standing pipe of the floor T and the pipe of the Leg T on both sides of the legs would be ideal as this would bring triangles into this design and greatly reinforce its structural strength. Probablly dont need it but it would greatly strengthy the design and get rid of some of the wobble. Mine doesnt have the cross struts at the 45 but Kee Klamp makes this A12-8 Kee Klamp Split 45 Degree Single Socket Tee" you could dish out some money and really reinforce this thing slowly over time but you would Need to use the Size 8 Bar. I just used a pipe wrench and tightened everything down really nice but i will definately add the kee klamps if i had more money to spend on 12 kee klamps and some more pipe to reinforce those 45 angles that should really be there for strenght if you make this taller than 6' like i did. Thank you bro. I have gotten a part of my life back that a 100$ at the gym every month i just couldn't afford anymore. Now the 300$ i spend hopefully will last me 30 years in the backyard. Thanks G.

I didn't know you had to tighten with a pipe wrench so after a few months of use 5-6 X a week... the swaying back and forth... the threaded end on the upright pipe on the right side snapped. Used soft straps that were made for tree hanging and a 190lb Aqua Bag. Going to build another when I get time and assemble it right. So lesson to anyone doing this. Use a pipe wrench.

@SENSEIJASON
@SENSEIJASON 7 месяцев назад
you also have to think about how you're gonna hang it, so if you're gonna use straps or chains, that's also gonna lengthen the bag. I'd say 7 foot is cutting it a little too close to the ground in my opinion. You could potentially extend all the proportions of the stand to accommodate for the length of the bag.

Kind of weird question. Can you do pullups on it? 150lb human? 100lb muay thai bag?

Yes you definitely can do pull ups on it, I do it all the time. My dad is around 160 lb and he does pull ups on it too. You can also hang your laundry out there to dry, seriously!

If you are talking about the top bar, where the bag hangs, that is 7ft across

@@SENSEIJASON ideal, do you find the whole frame moves much when you use it? I can anchor to wall/floor if needed but hoping it's not necessary. My plan is for 2 bags at about 75cm from each upright, so the total weight of the frame and bags should be around 150kgs. I can't see it moving much, I'm no Mike Tyson either 🤣
@SENSEIJASON
@SENSEIJASON 2 года назад
Let me just say that the more weight the heavy bag has the more stable the frame will be. Just as long as your not swinging on it like a monkey lol, the stand won’t give. The steel pipe I have on the floor as the base, what you can do is make it longer to provide more surface area and contact with the ground. That way if you’re really concerned about the bag swinging the extra length can compensate. My DIY stand is just a “template” but one that works and I believe is more convenient to set up than standard heavy bag stands. Feel free to modify.
@FionnMcc
@FionnMcc 2 года назад
@@SENSEIJASON my plan is 1500mm bottom tubes with a 2 triangular supports on the top and on the bottom. I fear the long tee you have on the bottom is the weak point. Quite a lot of angular stress considering the distance from the top bar. The more I think about it the more bits I keep adding and the more expensive it's becoming 🤣

Built this using 1inch x 6 ft poles for the sides and top. I hung a 21” 190 lb aqua bag and the top bar started to bend in on itself. I emptied water out of my bag to reduce the load but im pretty upset the bag now hangs below my eye level. For anyone reading this, I’d recommend a thicker pipe (1.25inch diameter) if you’re going to use a real heavy aqua bag. Taller pipes if you’re a taller person, or a lighter bag.

Update: I ended up buying an 18” Taylor made boat buoy for half the price and filled it 3/4ths with water. It’s the exact same as an aqua bag but half the price (from my understanding an aqua bag is just a rebrand of the boat buoy). I used the same specs as before (three 1” x72” steel rods) but this time I used a pipe wrench to really tighten everything up. Glad to say the setup works perfect now.

Its hard to see but those exposed threads on the crossbar and T joint look a bit rusty. The corrosion might have weakened the joints. I wouldn't chance your arm (or your coxis) doing pull ups on it if were you. While it is very funny watching people fall off pull up bars, it won't be for you if it plays the long game and waits until you're in your late 50s to show you it's sick of you swinging off it. If you ever build another one, before you tighten up the tubes, get some zinc galvanising spray on those threads and inside the elbows, Tees etc as the threading process has most likely scored off the protective zinc coating. I'm going to build this and add some inverted V bracing near the elbow joints, it might be a good idea to do that on yours too. Oh and make sure to use the galv spray outside and stand facing down wind, it smells amazing but you really don't want to breath that stuff in.
