Looks just like mine. I'm just finishing my second one, this time using 1.1 Silpoly. The first was 1.1 Silnylon. We will see which fabric is better.

Though I do a regular flat felled seam for the ridgeline. I have a presser foot for it.

With nylon you will want to use tensioners to keep it from sagging overnight. I use both.

Great video. Glad you showed each step instead of just talking about what you were doing and jumping to completed parts.

Thanks, sometimes it's a tough balance between enough detail and too long of a video. The sped up scenes help a lot keeping the length in check.

This is GREAT. I'm thinking about trying to do something like that, but having a "domed" end so I can put in two ridgelines. I learned a lot from your vid here, thanks! Jules

You're welcome. Tarps aren't too bad if you have a little space to spread out. Just be neat and organized so you don't stitch something accidentally.

Nice tutorial! What do you make your little weight sacks from, what are they filled with, and about how much do they each weigh? Thanks!
@PaCampingDad
@PaCampingDad 7 лет назад
Thanks. The weight sacks are actually from a pair of ankle weights for working out. If you unzip the pouch that attaches onto your ankle they are filled with 5 of these heavy plastic sealed pouches. I assume they are filled with lead shot or something similar. They weigh just under a pound each.

Great video, was very helpful. I am about to make my first hammock tarp, I made 2 hammocks already, but they are easier than a tarp. One question - what type of thread did you use? Thanks again!
@PaCampingDad
@PaCampingDad 8 лет назад
I use Gutterman thread. Dutch has it on his sites. www.makeyourgear.com/rolled-goods/gutermann-thread-gutermann/ Only use 100% polyester thread for any outdoor projects due to low stretch and rot resistance.

I read over your material list for your tarp, but you didn't list the thread. Nylon or polyester best?

As I stated in the first reply to this comment, use 100% Polyester thread. Nylon will stretch and often causes problems in the sewing machines. Use a good quality thread (this is not a place to save money). I provided a link in my first reply.

I may have missed it but where did you get this fabric and what it is called?
@PaCampingDad
@PaCampingDad 7 лет назад
I have the details in the description of the video. It is Xenon 0.9 fabric from makeyourgear dot com (this is Dutch's DIY store - but he is migrating everything to his dutchwaregear dot com site)

Do you have a walking foot on your machine? I'm finding the xenon .9 very slippery to work with...
@PaCampingDad
@PaCampingDad 8 лет назад
No, I don't use a walking foot. It just takes practice, this was my 5th tarp and I made 2 smaller projects all with sil material. The Xenon was actually very nice to work with. The worst I had was Dutch's short lived Sil-Argon, but it was the stretch that was the problem. I have some weight sacks that I keep within reach to throw on the fabric to prevent it from sliding off the table.
